recently have stoned off tactics, and swords, swords will sit on stone, tactics went to archer. so im 0/0 in wep skill / tactics. so i decide to go work another wep skill (fencing) and tactics back up to 120. i grab my golem and off to luna to melee it. i gain to 25 and hit a dead zone. has there been a change in skill gain with a golem? ive sat at 25 for about 10 mins now. and i must be doing something wrong?

Why not buy the warrior skill to 30 points, then take the New Player quest in New Haven? That will take you to 50 in less time then you've been fiddling with the golem.

Unless I'm mistaken (since I've never actually done it) you don't start training with a golem till about 70 skill. You can buy up to 40 from the trainers in New Haven. Then, as has been suggested, do the accelerated gains quest to 50

I'm about 99% sure you have to be higher than 80 in any particular skill to whack the golem and gain. I believe the first 25 points in any given skill are guaranteed points. So as long as your swinging your sword your gonna gain until you hit 25.

work it up to 50, get some jewels and then you can start using the golem.

I don't know how you worked it before from 0-120... If my memory serves me correct, its been 80 skill minimum for years now.

Any melee skill, but not anatomy, is difficult to gain from if you are more than +/- 25 skill points from whatever you are attacking. This works for pets also, and has been this way for years if not always. I don't know what the tactics skill of a golem is, but you can use Stratics numbers as a guide or get a tamer to lore your golem for you.

Just to add to what The Old Man said.....

You need to be +/- 25 skill points from what your attacking. If this means a golem, you will need a low skilled tinker (60 -80) to create a golem for you if you have lore skills.

The better route is to do as others have suggested, buy the skill, quest to 50 and then Jewel up to 75 or so. (You might have to alternate weapon skill and tactics jewelry till both are 75 real skill.)

It's also best to have a tamer lore the golems that are made. It is possible to create very lopsided golems (meaning 80 tactics and GM wrestling). It's best to train on a even & high skilled golem if your going all the way to 120.

Also, once you get a good golem, keep it in your stable for your other chars to use.

Hope that helps a bit,
Q

You can also get someone else to discord your golem to lower its skills. Or try the satyr trick of attacking the satyr with your golem until the satyr discords your golem, but that can be tricky and not get your golem killed.

You can also use jewelry to bring your tactics/swords skills to within 25 skill points of the golem, which is easier than discord.

But honestly, once you get to that level, I find mob killing to be less boring. The painted caves work great for skill gains from about 70/80 all the way to 120, and I get a lot of gold along the way!

In order to train from 0-120 in a weapon skill on a golem you need TWO golems. First buy your skill up to 30s from NPC. Then get a NON-GM Golem (this is a golem made by a tinker with less than 100 in skill). Use this golem till you've reached 70.0 in the desired skill. Or until you can equip jewlery you have on hand to take you to 70.0 or more. At this point you can switch to the GM Golem (a golem made by a tinker with 100 in skill) This golem will take you from 70.0 - 120.0

i would just fight ettins til 50-60
put on some +swords stuff so you're around 70 skill
fight til 90+ skill
remove swords stuff and continue training as high as possible
go whirlwind some spawn critters, get pinkies while training
now go kill other stuff with high weap/tac like tsuki wolves, miasma, etc

use fast weaps or make sure your suit lets you swing at cap - you are more after gains than damage while training.
use whirlwind weaps to hit multiple targets and get more gains in a short period of time
