I've been curious about how much physical gold is actually circulating around the shard!
When you answer add up an estimate of all the gold on all the characters/ toons that belong to you in Siege!
Only count actual gold, such as in your bank, wall safe etc.!
Please don't count what your possessions are worth, property, gold on other shards etc.!

My interest in this topic is based on, gold is only really generated from monsters, chests, drops after champ, etc. And only when buying things from npc vendors does gold actually leave circulation. When it changes player hands from one to another it's still in circulation.

Gold circulation on Siege is in one sense more interesting than on prodo shards because on prodo you can generate large amounts of gold into circulation by selling most anything to npc vendors.

So when someone pays you a million for a scroll or arty or etc. It's interesting to think how many monsters needed looting to generate that gold etc.

Anyway I hope you all have fun with helping me explore this economic census!

1.1m for me.

I farm a lot, I'm in a phase where I need gold.

I can currently make 150k gold an hour.
(If I sold the ingredients I got, I could make this more, I used to sell resources when it was all I could do, but now I don't, as I'm going to need them myself).

I'm saving as much as I can for Soulstones. They cost 2.3m each lets say, so it takes me about 15 days to save for one, if I farm 1 hour per day.
On top of this, I need to farm for bandages, to actually do my hunt, that in itself easily adds 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Then sometimes I train other skills, such as Imbue, or gather Imbue regs or do Solen quests to keep it all going.

I don't remember everything, but so far I have farmed for - 120 macing, level 3 macing primer, +25 stats, +5 valiant scroll, a log cabin, 1 soulstone (I was gifted +1 soulstone by a friend which was lovely - but I probably want 20+!!). I can farm faster now, to start with, the character had no skills or armour or weapons, had to build them up also.

i don't play siege as much as i used to. I tend to stick to the shadows here and don't really have any friends anymore. My time in UO is limited I would rather hang out with my guild on chesapeake when I do play.

You forgot to mention that Siege hasn't had duping running for 20 years. If you notice, the account actions that Broadsword has posted recently have shown every month that dupers are still active. There was one instance over 15 years ago where 1 trillion gold was wiped out by the devs. Imagine what that is like now. The change away from checks was intended to address this, but it was a decade too late, and now duping is geared towards rares instead. There was a thread on the rares forum a few months back where someone caught a castle on dagger isle that had been set to public briefly and they could see six or seven copies of an item that was 1 of 1.

Siege is the only place where the transfer dupe could never occur. There is a very clear difference between the Siege economy and prodo economy due to this.

I've got about 6 mil of my own gold and approx. 1.5 mil gold (1 mil is still in cheque form) left from years ago that was donated to NEW which is used to buy bits and pieces for them to get them started, (tithing, joining thieves guild etc.) Having lots of gold has never interested me. I have a lot of 'stuff', though which I usually give away if someone needs, though I'll sell if I want to build gold up to buy something.

I am hovering around 4 or 5 million at the moment. Hope to make more at the next auction.

So I would like to know what happend to the 5 MIL s and plus 10 of each leather I gave to NEW under Blind Otto, only a couple too three weeks prior to Shalimars return? Did Blind Otto keep or pass on to Shalimar?
You'd need to ask Otto about that Baby Doll, it wasn't passed on to me. I just got access to his Minoc house last Wednesday, he's hardly been on since I came back..

you only went to 100 mill?? how dare you lump the Bo with these Paupers!
The census is at root anonymous, so unless someone declares in the comments what they have, it's not relevant who has more or most.
Although I am curious who are the richest citizens on Siege it would be kinda rude to single out those i suspect to be the richest and say "hey, how much gold do you have" hehe.
I suspect Bo is one of the richest on Siege no doubt and would be curious as to how much gold you personally keep in liquidity, not tied into assets. Would you publicly say the estimate of your current gold holdings? 300m+ 500m+?
I'm also curious if anyone currently holds a platinum coin on Siege? But like I said I think that line of questioning is kinda too personal to go around investigating lol.

Nnod,

If you do a little google-fu sleuthing on old posts in this forum, I did a thread a few years back, 2016 maybe, where I analyzed a full year of GIL auction results. I broke it down into what items were bought by who, what sold the most, the highest, etc and it was pretty easy to see the broad stokes of who had change laying around in their couch. Not a complete picture obviously, but it'd get you a long way to an understanding of how money changed hands here, at least in that year period.

Since some have chosen to disclose their holdings, I'll do the same.
I rely mostly on merchant trade to generate my income, supplemented with farming gold endeavors.
I've 2.5 mil in the bank, 1.5 mil on a vendor for trading purposes but in gold, and I've recently moved 1 mil into my wall safe. So I'm literally on the 5 mil line coming into my 2nd anniversary since my return and starting from nil .
The beginning of this year I was doing rather well somewhere just shy of 6 mil. Business was good and GIL auctions were great too. Then over the summer I decided to go to near zero investing in my first soulstones... Business dried up and GIL auctions went extinct lol... so it's taken some time to recover hehe.
I like the idea of wall safes, as it prevents me from spending that money freely without due consideration of moving it into accessible. Before my soulstones endeavor I got about 3 mil stashed in the wall safe as I would move about 1 mil over about every 3 mil gained into my bank.
* this brings me to an interesting question*
If someone has millions in a wall safe and their house idocs, , what happens to the safe? LoL does the gold get lost? Go to the new owner of the deed ? or dump back into the owners secure account...?
Anyway that's the long of it about my financial holdings and shard impact .

It is quite safe. Some of it went to buy resources to make items for NEW members - all safely in chests that Shalimar has access to.
A little went to get some useful items for all NEWs to use, and the rest is safely kept in a bank account that is purely for NEW purposes. Sadly, Siege banks haven't discovered the concept of interest yet. Probably a good thing, or Blackthorn would be taxing that, too.

As to my own funds, here they are.
*bangs two copper coins together*

At the momet I am broke. I had a rather long break and had to invest alot in stuff I had missed (e.g. invasion spellbooks). And if you have a museum, you always have to invest in new items for the exposition. For example, I will have to get this Pendant of Khal Ankur from the upcoming event, but I will not be able to farm the turn-in items and consequently, I will have to buy from others. Not having the Item is no option. Thats why I always am low on gold and have to rely in donations. Who wants to donate? I will put a statue with your name into the frontyard. By the way: I need a house within guardzone or close to a city for the museum but cannot afford to buy one like in New Mag... You see, thats why I am below 10 m most of the time. And then there are two kids, a wife and a tough job. I wish I was retired and had time for farming .. :gee:

Absolutely! LoL .
Mostly my curiosity wasn't about who is wealthy or status, so much as the actual movement of gold. An interest in an estimate of how much total gold there actually is currently.
Clearly a number of folks don't visit statics, but if you say double the estimates here, you could have a good ballpark guess. Prolly about 2-5 billion gold on Siege.

OMYgawd, Victim of Siege, please please do not tell me you like that piece of ****?
This is all I hear from people on the interwebs. When you talk to them. In person, they always have a different tone. I ask... What's wrong with liking him? This is off topic, but what has he REALLY done that's so bad? And please don't parrot talking points. Back your claims up.

They probably hate him because he's a business man and not a politician feeding them lies and hand outs, because in one year in office he's lowered unemployment to a historical low, raised the stock market and the economy to all time highs, made better trade deals in the interest of our country than has been seen in over 50 years! Honestly don't know what's not to love?

Hell Obama was sooo weak at the end of his horrendous reign, North Korea was lobbing icbm's left and right and clear over Japan. Now that's all stopped, we're no longer importing cheap crap that we can produce ourselves, businesses are being penalized for taking away our jobs and sending them overseas, and we're more effectively than ever booting illegal aliens... yup but not one good reason any dem can list as to why to dislike him hehe, not performance wise anyways.

...not always, definitively on a computer gaming board. And by the way: Things are far more complicated than one could discuss in 1-2 single posts. Remember how hard it is to find common ground on our small shard. RL is so much more complicated. Last point: Although we might be the minority, this is not a domestic US-board and here are many people from other countries with their own issues and opinions. I would first try to solve our problems on SP: how about VICE and WC working together during the time of the events, giving everybody a chance down in Khaldun?

how about VICE and WC working together during the time of the events, giving everybody a chance down in Khaldun?
we tried working together with GIL for Sunday VvV. We never broke the one rule this event had - no looting. Long story short, it ended with GIL constantly accusing our players of cheating and showing a bad attitude in general. In the end GIL left VvV with the announcement that unless certain individuals were removed from our guild/alliance they would not come back. I won't let any outsiders dictate who I can and can't have in my guild/alliance, especially not when the accusations against them were lacking any verifiable proof. I would be very surprised if GIL all of a sudden would show an interest in working together with us again.

Also I don't really see why we should work together. GIL has been trying to do the Khaldun content and every time they did they had at least double our numbers (3 vs 8 the last two times), so it's not like they don't stand a chance. For some reason they chose to leave though.
Furthermore, we are absolutely unable to guard our dungeon 24/7 - there is plenty of opportunity to farm in there without anyone on our side even online. So really people, go to Khaldun and try your luck, chances are we won't find and kill you.
And last but not least there's also an economical side to this. We have a strong interest that the powerscroll and Kahldun item market is not flooded and thus leads to decreased prices. We are looking to keep the market somewhat balanced to make it worth people's time to farm down there should they want to sell the fruits of their labor.

I didnt want to start a fingetpointing-game. The economic argument is not convincing to me. And the other stuff seems to belong into other threads. My fault. Forget about my foolish ideas, I am getting old.:gee:

P.S.: I wasnt insinuating cooperation, maybe just a break in the animosities.

Discussing real life politics is actually against the Stratics rules, just for the record: Political discussions on Stratics.

It's appreciated that you guys were able to discuss it maturely without attacking each other though.
I was stirring the pot a l ittle bit, but on Siegw everyone knows everyone. We can't hide behind our avatars on the forums. Hell, Baby Doll is in my guild... hence, why I gave her a little gruff. It's all good and if people are passionate about politics... that's great! Keep it professional I say.
