"I survived the Age of Shadows" i guess those thousands that have left didnt get to keep theirs.

When the age of shadows expansion came out they gave away gifts to the players, they were allowed to chose a reward, and one of the labels on some of the clothes said "I survived the Age of Shadows"
you can still find some of it floating around now and then

They gave the gifts to the players because the AOS launch went off so badly. It was pure chaos.
The gifts were given after AOS was launched to compensate. Most of the quotes are done tongue in cheek as a way of acknowledging their mistake.
It has nothing to do with any sort of precognition that AOS was going to be a disaster.

I didn't start playing until after AOS came out but for 2-3 years i had no real problems with uo pvp or anything, I dont think the game turned to total **** until the introduction of elves and the beyond godly WOD archers and 1 shot bushido archers with SE. 4/6 chiv is lame but its not like it cant be beaten.

I killed Tupac Shakur on GL yesterday on his little 4/6er in a duel which all he did was spam bleed on my low dci no parry mage. But yet i still managed to kill him without a problem, even while i are my dinner.

Necros are just easy seeing that my scribe mage has chiv so their spells are pretty much worthless if i can keep the stam to run and remove curse, Necros are insanely lame if its more than 1v1 but why was AOS so bad?

because aos took the game from skill vs skill to a more item vs item state of play

pre aos was the true pvp and skills were what made the difference
an equally skilled and talented player today will only win the fight based on items equippped....sad but true

Yup, before AoS a duel between two like templates would result in the template with higher skills winning in most cases. Today because of items and connection speed a mage with the right items and 100 mage/med/eval/resist/etc can beat a mage with 120 mage/med/eval/resist. This should not be able to be done!

This pre-AoS statement does not take connection speed into acount, so someone on dial up with better skills would lose to someone on DSL with worse skills.

These days all you need is a decent suit of armor and an uber weapon and you can own most people. In fact my archer (who i rarely play) has a pretty crummy suit but his xbow rules, so i 2 hit or 3 hit kill people all the time.
