GMed throwing yesturday.
i allready had swords and tactics 110 on the fella so it rolled allong smoothlly.

went out and was fighting some stuff in SA.

i must say, i wasnt overlly impressed.

even with 42 HCI i was missing A LOT against what i would call medium to low end critters.
damage wasnt too bad.

once i got the honor rolling it was good damage.

anyone else GM it yet?

I don't think too many people are bothering with it. I know none of my warrior chars are going to be gargoyle, so there's no need for me to even worry about it.

What skills did you go with? I can`t seem to find a decent template for a Garg Warrior. I see Gargs as being nothing but Mystic Imbuerers, & Tamers to be honest.

I haven't done the skill yet but it would not surprise me. Many other MMO's have races that aren't really suitable to take on certain class types or skill types in this case. Consequently, it is much like you said. Relegated to certain skills and classes.

I'll be honest - i think some of the gargoyle stuff is underpowered.

Throwing seems to be garbage. Even archery kind of sucks now that conc blow is nerfed so hard.

Mysticism is kind of ****ty too. Ok so the spellstone thing is cool, but sleep blows. It's like a paralyze that you can just pop a box through.

I have about 3 templates that would be unstoppable in a group that my team is working on.. but it will take us a while to get set up with em. It requires special jewels/ armor . I'm sure once we are set up ppl will start crying.

well i went into one area and was farming some of the blue bone armor.
cause i have a bone armor fetish, thank you for asking!!!!!!

anyways.
i went in with my tamer on a dread mare only.
they where dropping in about a second.
these where the Guardian Garg's

so i got bored after a while and decided to take my garg thrower in there.
i was suprisded how bad he did in there.
i was flying.
i enemy of oned them.
con'd weapon.
and let rip..... and i was useing a runic made boom'r
it was HCI 24
SSI 30
DI 48

so it was what i thought would be pretty pimping.
i had the undead tali on and my HCI was like 45 or so.

and i was missing more then 50% of the time, and when i did hit it wasnt doing too much too them.
if it was one on one it was ok.
but when there was a couple of those silver serpants there i was dead.

so my test #2 with the thrower went bad.

one thing i did wonder but havnt tested yet.
that is if you HIT MORE WHEN NOT FLYING.

i havnt read anything about this yet and may bare some testing.

Only thing I can possibly add that is not mentioned....is there is supposed to be some formula for distance = power&accuracy, so to close hits softer and to far hits softer, I am not sure what the formula is or if it works but meh....

Other than that, I have not gotten a chance to even play UO since SA's release so can not really say much of anything on the subject aside from being unimpressed in beta :)

I'll probably be making a parry/swords/throwing template just for kicks, but I doubt I'll keep it.

I just started working on a gargoyle thrower friday i havent gmed yet, but i did notice fighting some easy stuff like lizard men, ogres etc. that to maximize hit with my cyclone which has a range of 7 i need to be about 3 to 4 tiles from monster to really hit with full force. I'm kind of liking the skill a bit of a challenge for sure, maybe not the best but there's always going to be room for tweeks. I also would like to test the flying vs not theory so maybe tonight while trying to gain some skill ill give that shot.

ya, i can confirm this for sure.
when things would come off screen and id start bombing them the first hit would be ok.
the middle range hit would be the power hit, then when they got up toe to toe it would suck for the HP it would deliver.

so if you can dance around and throw it was ok, and of course keep them at a constant distance.

I have something that i am wondering about.

i have been rolling this around in my brain bucket for a couple days now since i worked up Throwing.

so, boomerangs are a 2 second weapon.
but watch them.
really sit back and watch them.
the THROWING part may be 2 seconds.
but the HITTING part is definatlly NOT 2 seconds.
i put my thrower up beside one of my fencers holding a 2 sec weapon.
the fencer was ringing away with the hits.
the boomerang would launch and take a couple seconds to make its loop, hit, then come back.
so it seemed to me that the throwing was fast ONCE IT WAS IN HAND, but you have to add the time of the loop into it.
which makes the weapon definatlly not a 2 sec weapon.

and the HCI is still way off of them.
i put both guys at 40 HCI on the same golem and the fencer missed like 7 our of 50.
the Thrower missed 25 out of 50.

me thinks they need to look at the code.

That does seem kind of off, between the fencer and throwing, were the fencers skills at the same or 120? of course i wonder how much of a difference 120 throwing would make in the hitting of things, i tested a little on beta but i quit pretty fast i get bored testing lol.

Poo are you using a shield or not? I have parry at gm, but even still its almost not hitting at all with it equipped, so i've just been running without it for now. Not sure if you've been playing around with that aspect or not. I'd also have to agree with you on the case of ss too. hopefully this week ill be able to get the skills up a little more. I've also found a 120 throwing scroll im going to try to scoop up mayber i can hit that by the weekend.

on a side note.

anyone think its worthwhile to have swords on the toon with throwing?

it was mentioned to me that it may help.
i dont see as to why it would, its not like its LumberJacking, throwing is suppose to be a stand alone skill.
and its not like you can use it close up.

only think i can think to rational it is you can switch to a garg sword when the critter closes in for the toe to toe dance.

anyone?

Yeah theres 120 throwing i managed to get one earlier today so im pretty excited. As for the swords thats what im going with its supposed to help you with close quarters hits. When im finished id like to have 120 swords, parry, and throwing, only managed to get 115's for the swords and parry though.

Supposedly the higher your parry the less the neg effect it has, but right now at gm parry it doesnt seem to be doing to well so im still going to run around without one for now. I did ok fighting off gore fiends and vampire bats in the new champ spawn area, pretty good size groups, but still fairly low on skills too so i havent managed to take on anything bigger than an ogre lord yet.

Has anyone figured out how to make throwing rock yet? Is it possible? I really want to make a gargoyle, but I'm having a hard time finding a role for one where it isn't a big liability to be a gargoyle, and throwing seems like maybe the best option, in spite of its limitations.

My thrower is also a peacemaker. Tentative template:

110: throwing, music, peacemaking
100: tactics, resisting spells, chivalry
90: focus

I'll boost the first three if I can ever afford a power scroll that will raise my skill cap above 120.

its too bad throwing sucks so bad, the primary and 2ndary effects on the cyclone and soul glaive are really nice. it also takes too many other skills to mitigate over/under accuracy/dmg issues

AHhh that explains why throwing sucks, Wilki was involved with it! Sooner or later someone will fix his realistic mess.

There are still plenty of things in the game which have been broken or useless since Day 1 of UO, 13 years ago

I'm sure it'll get fixed at some point

The only use for throwing is a gargoyle with a boomerang mage weapon for ranged attacks and thats only if a garg if you human or elf go with archery!
I rank it up there with forensic eval for usefulness! almost the worst skill in the game! for me anyway!

You guys should really try it on the test shard before devoting time to throwing. Just type set throwing 1000, anyway just thought I would recommend that. This way you can make a bunch of runic weapons too and try different suits.

I had a tough time killing anything in pvm and didn't dare try a pvp thrower.

I was actually doing quite well against rabbits. I thought the skill pretty realistic to hunting small critters for food. That's where it ROCKS!

I have 2 tamers; one mage and one ranged. I was thinking of making the ranged one an archer but didn't want to waist time/money with stocking arrows. So I changed him into a gargoyle and took up throwing with bushido. I must say that it is quite fun to play with a Greater Dragon. Once you figure out the quirks with throwing its not too bad. One thing I had to change from my original template was how much strength I had. STR increases range on your weapons. I needed to be closer to my dragon to heal it. I noticed that with high str I was getting in the lower hit% area by being too close and not in the sweet spot. This is currently my most favorite character to play right now.

I also recently created a "pure" thrower. I have to say that after you get 120 parry, swords and throwing its difficult to figure out what else to use. Currently I'm going with healing tactics anat and chiv. This doesn't seem to be a damage dealer. However I'm not sure the point of having swords just so you don't miss up close. Isn't the point of a ranged skill set to avoid the up close personal stuff.

Another template I tried was the Mystic mage thrower. My thoughts here were extra damage while my RC was up.. However with the large requirements to get a really good RC didn't leave me with much options on the combat side of the throwing so i abandoned that idea. Plus if your going to rely on your RC you really should have spellweaving so he doesn't get dispelled soon as you summon him.
