Implement that rule and many would leave game. I'd have to rename over 50 characters and loose all history and reputation that I have because there is another Tazar on another shard.

So... Which Tazar has to change names? It would have to be both to be fair. Reputations are too valuable to loose in that manner. There's not much that would make me leave UO, but that would probably do it.

Obviously, more sheep would still be leaving so your argument holds no weight. You can't change this type of system on the playerbase this late in the game and not loose people.

*Sigh*. Rather than an analogy i'll spell it out in game terms.

Tomorrow, if I want to, I can log onto any shard I like, pick the first person I see and create a character with the same name. I can then use this character to do a lot of things. Scam others. Give the original character a bad reputation. Generally grief him or her. I can log onto your shard and create a Tazar if I want to. Do you really think that players grief other players BECAUSE they have the same name as them? NO. They create a character with the same name TO grief them.

All EA has to do to stop me or anyone else doing this is create a rule in the character creation process that all new character from now on have to have unique names. Problem solved. I can no longer copy other folks character names and no one else can copy mine.

As for existing characters with duplicate names? Leave them. Sure there is the risk that someone with your Char name can do all of the above griefing, but no one will be able to create a character for this specific purpose from this point forward.

Its not rocket science and there is no good reason why EA should not do it. In fact they SHOULD do it.

Did I explain it simply enough for you?

rofl... It's way way way too late for UO to take that route now. That decision would have to have been made 12+ years ago. They can't take established characters that are prominent on many shards and suddenly force a name change because someone on another shard has the same name.

So ... If you had a sheep pen with 1000 sheep in it and it didnt have a gate on, what would you do when 50 of the sheep escaped? Would you just say "oh well ... "It's way way way too late" to do anything about it ... in which case even more sheep escape. Or would you have a gate fitted?

EA just leaves the gate open on this one im afraid when they could implement this at ANY time they chose ... its not really difficult to do. It doesnt get your sheep back ... but it stops any more slipping out.

Soooo ... your excuse is weak. Yes EA should have done it 8, 10, 12 years ago ... but better late than never.
Yes, it is way too late to change it. There would have been a safe time to do it but that was long long ago before EA took over. Just because you may not mind changing your characters name doesn't mean everyone else it ok with it.

Maybe you should just quit the game along with popps, lol.

I've had impostors before, of me and of friends... it's part of the game to me. I still would not like your proposal though. Over the years, I have bought out several neighbors until I own a small city. Each house is owned by a "Tazar" and if that city expands, I'd like to keep that trend. That means another account and another "Tazar".

And any scammer will still find a way around the unique name rule. They'll name it "_Tazar" or "Tazar_", or they'll just run up to you and say "Hey... This is Tazar on another character". A scammer will always find a way.

Stop.

If you're so savvy, then why do you make your blanket statements about pot throwers. I'm pretty sure there have been atleast 100 threads here on stratics on how to make that macro in UOA.

Srsly.

Carry on.

(For the record, I don't toss em, but I have done so in the past as a PvP Alchy out of sheer boredom. Was a nice change in pace.)
sorry for the confusion, i was trying to say that many people talk about the pot throwers, i was using it as an example, not through personal experiences

What difference would it make if you knew a GM was bad? Unless I'm mistaken, you can't say to a GM "I don't want to deal with you, send me another GM instead." I guess you could ask for a superior, but honestly, shouldn't you at least give the person a chance to resolve your issue before you assume they won't? If there is a crappy GM, *not* doing his job, and the complaints pour in through the proper channels, where it can be investigated properly, then that GM would be handled - but some random people posting on a random board somewhere isn't going to help to that end. Heck, your posting accounts aren't even tied to your ingame accounts, how in the world can there be any accountabilty for what *you* post about the GM? All it does is open up a way for the person to, most usually, get unduly trashed.

The fact is, many times GMs are labeled terrible, or not doing their job, when in fact they've done their job. Either you just don't see it, or it didn't meet your expectations, but the chances are quite likely that it was the only thing they could do. For example, an item you lost isn't returned to you - you are upset, you say the GM sucked - when the policy is not to return items, a decision made by EA, not the GM just doing his job as he's only allowed to do so. Another example is this thread here. There is no way to know that the GMs *didn't* look into the scripter - but perhaps he had a sophisticated enough script to answer GMs when they talk to him, or he's got some alert that brings him to the computer as soon as someone shows up, etc etc. The GMs have very strict guidelines on exactly when they can ban for scripting, and they can't deviate outside those lines, even on a *feeling*. They probably get just as frustrated as players do because their hands are so tied. So in this case, the GM, if named, would be needlessly trashed when he almost certainly did his job. It's just not right.

You're fighting the wrong fight here. It's not the GMs that are at fault, it's those that make the desicions on what can and can't be done by the GMs - that's who you need to rail to and against.
Hi Kitty,

The problem there is your assuming what I find terrible customer service. I know all of what your saying and accept it. They have to work with what they are given BUT that said they are still terrible with what they are given.

I've posted at length about a GM who gave brilliant customer service. How? Becuase they interacted with me, made it feel happy with the service I got (even though some of the issues couldnt be fixed) and was generally excellent at his/her job. I was left with the impression that this guy actually cared about the game.

Now in contrast I've had GM's send standard replies over and over and linking to me a website that not only wasnt helping my problem but was also aboutr 6 years out of date (Sending me to a FAQ about housing that was PRE AOS about 3 or 4 years ago).

I sent bad feedback each and every time and not once did I recive an apology. It wasnt till I sent a message threatening to send pages over and over till I spoke to someone that they finally came (different GM this time) and fixed the issue I couldnt (The excellent GM in question above).

Please dont assume I'm one of the whiners that page over every little thing, simply I dont.

I should point out also that I've stated several times that its EA's fault with what the GM's can do but it is the GM's fault for not bothering to give value customer service.

Now please can someone look at everything I've posted and actually see what i'm saying...

would that block the house sign from a script? if they are using a script?

i suppose that is a way to determine whether they are scripting or actually at the keyboard browsing website etc
I don't know about scripting, I was just thinking about how someone could annoy me while camping an idoc as a ghost. I check the housesign while hovering over it with the mouse, if someone put a lot of stuff in front of it I couldn't see it when it changes from Greatly to idoc.

what with all the personal attacks despite repeated warnings, I'm surprised no one has gotten banned from the boards yet. seems to me that the stratics mods are giving certain people too much freedom of speech
