Global Loot and the beasts we call Luck

so, had the opportunity to go out on Origin last night with a guild mate and do a little Global Loot testing. first off what we wanted to do was of course see what the new global loot was like.
so we started off small. found some baddies wondering around in the forest and kill them. noticed the new loot on them so that was cool. i killed a red wandering healer and he had 2 of the new items on him so that caused a laugh in TS.
so after a while of that we decided to go big game hunting.
we headed off to Destard to kill us some Greater Dragons because those always carry a nice big bag of items.
so we killed a couple dragons, loot was what i would call bottom shelf, it was the new stuff, so greater magical and that kinda stuff, but everything was no good.
i then remembered reading that luck plays a big factor in getting better stuff.
so i went out and put on my luck suit, now i dont play on Origin all the time but i did make a nice little luck suit that is serviceable for testing purposes, its 1300ish luck, 1275 to be exact i think. at any rate i hit the statue that got me up to like 2200ish in luck, then i recalled them saying that you get the 1000 luck bonus for fel side hunting, so we went off to fel side Destard.
and i must say, NOTICEABLE difference in loot from 0 luck to 3100-3200 luck!

but i will say this, not a lot of Artifact level items, in fact a LOT LESS, very noticeably less.
at first i was disturbed by this because this is how i get all my relics to fuel my imbuing addiction!
but then i started to notice something.... i was noticing that while most of the items i was getting where lesser magical or greater magical THOSE items actually where stuffed full!
i was getting rings and bracelets with 5 mods and those mods where 100% which seemed strange too me. and the armour would have 5 mods on it as well.
truth be told i didnt find any weapon or armour worth keeping on the half hour forty minutes we where there.
but this is the interesting part, or at least i found it interesting.
i noticed that i was filling a bag and getting overweight pretty much off of every 2 dragons.
i dont recall that from before.
i ended up having to go old school and brought in another computer with another account with a pack beetle with a hidden guy just to hold all the loot bags.
so when i went to unravel all the bags i pulled out all the artifact level items, was not many, out of the aprox 250 items i had id say maybe 10 artifacts?
so i melted down the 240 items and i was rather surprised because 50% of them where lesser magical and other 50% where greater magical my residue/essence/relic count was a lot different then i was expecting.
i was getting next to nothing for residue. a LOT of essence. and more relics then i expected from suck low rated items.
the exact count is as follows;
residue 29 (thats it!)
essence 290
relics 66

so while the items where all labeled as lower level they where FAT with mods!

here are a couple pics of some items that made me scratch my head.



so youll note the one bracelet is a lesser magic item, yet it has 4 mods and 2 of those are 100% mods.
the next bracelet is a major magic item and it has 5 mods all of which are 100%, another major with 4 mods that are 100%, a heavy bow with 40SSI (so you can enhance that to get 50ssi) and thats on a lesser item, the katana again has 2 items that are 100% and the pitchfork.... hello dexer monkey gate dismounter!

anyways, i just kept those items to show that the lower level stuff seemed really FAT with mods.
keep in mind that was with over 3000 luck.

2nd test was treasure chests, the ones that spawn in dungeon and a few other places (yew crypts and vesper bank)
they DO have the new loot system but they hold such a little amount of stuff that i was getting like 1 item from each chest. i didnt not try it with luck on but i will be to see if it makes a difference, which it should because they said it does.
DID NOTICE something strange with the chests.
picked lock, tele the box to set off trap, walked up, got poisoned, went to open again, explosion.
huh?

so next one, picked lock, moved back, tele chest, get the trap set off message.
tele chest, get the trap set off message.
tele chest, get the trap set off message.
tele chest.... nothing

so i watched for all the next chests i did, all the same, ALL had 2-4 traps on them.
strange.

ill do some more testing tonight and report back with results.

All chests I have ever done had 1-3 traps on them usually 3 never seen 4 so that could be new

The filling a bag getting overweight part is likely due to one of the new negative mods that make an item weight 50 stones.
Unlocked Containers can only hold up to 400 stones, so 8 of those beasts would cause a bag to be filled.

just put my luck suit on my T-Hunter and went and popped 15 chests out of dungeons and such.
pulled 1 item per chest.
13 items are lesser magical items.
2 items are greater magical.
luck on 2200 plus was on fel side for most of them, so +1000.

here are the 2 greater items;



so nothing great.
unraveled the bag of 15 items, residue-8, essence-24.

conclusion so far, picking level 5 chests give better loot then before, still cruddy loot.

im off to dig up a couple low level chest, then tonight once guildies come on we are gonna do level 5 and 6 maps.

so far T chests IMHO loot still sucks BUT its worth it to melt all the stuff down for the essence and relics.

All chests I have ever done had 1-3 traps on them usually 3 never seen 4 so that could be new
I regularly see three traps - to the point where I almost autopilot casting telekineses three times - but a couple of times in the past I have been caught out by a fourth one.

Did you get any single modded juwels with like 5 ssi or 10 ssi ? or some other cool stuff ?

Before the publish the static chests in dungeons had 3 traps, the spawning chests one.
My lockpicker with Remove Traps seems now to remove at least 2 traps in one step according to the message shown on the spawn chests too.

I think I saw in the notes that some of the boxes rolled loot with a random luck up to 250? Or maybe that was dungeon chests. Thanks for all this Poo. I am with you in that I think luck will be much more observable, now, in large quantities of loot if you are watching the data. I think I kinda like it. Uber luck doesn't guarantee a legendary arti, but, as intended, you can see the difference in properties and intensities. Hopefully that observable difference will put something really nice in your pack faster.

I hate the whole luck concept, I don't want to mess with luck. But maybe that's just me.
Well, it certainly isn't just you. But it wouldn't be UO if we weren't figuring out weird ways to make arcane sacrifices trying to appease the UO gods of the RNG. *shrugs*

Anyone get a single Paragon Chest on Origin? I have killed alot of Paragons and no chests. I have gotten single T-Maps off of them and in the past that always seemed more rare than getting a chest containing a map.

I will be gong back out killing for a couple hours and see if my luck changes.

ya we did pull a couple that has single mods with 100% but it was other stuff like +15 magic or HCI or other stuff, but that means that they do spawn with one mod at 100%

Yeah, there were a few bracelets in the loot of the monsters that spawned with the chests that had maxed out mods and no negative properties. Like you said, a +15 magery bracelet and I think the other one was a bracelet with just 25% DI and 15% HCI, something like that. But those were from the monsters, not the chests.

Intresting, Guess it must be my bad luck :(
I did some testing, killed blood elements,oni, ww and other monsters both in fel/iish and tram.
I wassent wearing any luck suit, but the loot was either 0 mods, or a minimum of 3 mods (prized, antique..etc etc still counts for 1 mod..kinda lame)

We were partied last night and I think Poo's luck was either 1200 or 2200 (maybe 2200 earlier and luck statue ran out and he went back to 1200 by the time we were out digging up chests?). My tamer's luck was 1380 and I think she killed 99% of the monsters that spawned with the chests. So we weren't really sure which character's luck would have affected the RNG for the monsters--the treasure hunter that popped the chest or the tag-along that killed the mobs. Would be interesting to hear from Kyronix how that works in a treasure-hunting partied group both for the treasure chest loot itself and for the monsters that spawn with the chest.

im assuming the T-Hunters for the chest and the tamers for the mobs.

went and killed Rune Beetles in Toku today, had new loot, never saw anything worth keeping.
again 99.9% of the stuff was Lesser or Minor Magical, and like before it all melted down for increased essence because it was all so fat with goodies.

still find it strange that these minor and lessor items can have 5 properties and 1-2 of which can be at 100% intensity.
i think that if the item has prized or antique on it the item gets a big bump in its weight but i cant be totally sure of this yet.

Amount of legendary items dropping is lot lower. Did couple of hours killing UEV's in fel side with 1480 luck 2280 with statue. Plus perfection and fel bonus. Got one legendary item in that time. When before publish, you would have got one on each UEV you killed. Lot less cursed items but items seems to have less properties too.

Where is the dislike button when you need it...

I like the fewer number if negative mods, but I would have liked the number or artifacts to remain static.

You're just not killing the right things. FWIW, I got that SDI Brace last night, and those two legendary artifacts a few minutes ago. I just got another one, and here it is.
