Global Arc Gems

OK, I don't think that this has been done, but apologize if it has. I'm assuming that this will not be a popular thread, but wanted to know if anyone thought of the possibility of a global arc "gem trade-in" for other gems?

I guess that I'm curious about that as the second and third installments I believe dropped more gems than the first, with the first (sapphire) being one per character, and the other two with chances for multiple drops per character. Maybe a three-rubies for one sapphire kind of thing.

Maybe I'm just curious as to what the gems will be "used for"; will they just be deco? will they be for trade-in? will they be for something else? If there is a "use", it would kind of suck that there is a kind of disparity in terms of how each character can get at each arc event, don't you think?

Before I get the complaining from the folks that bought some high-priced sapphires after the fact, I'm not saying that there should be (though that would be my preference), but wondering if you think that would be something that the developers may do?

If the gems are going to turn out to have a use other than as decor items, it would have been nice if the dev team had taken the time to put in some kind of content to allow people to get them in some way other than by attending EM events or buying them from other players. Since they didn't see fit to do that, however, it makes it pretty clear which types of activities the dev team wants to encourage these days. I guess time will tell if that was a good decision or not. I know I sure don't want anything to do with EM events, for a variety of reasons, and I just flat out don't have the gold to buy stuff from other players and I refuse to use brokers to buy gold to do that. The more UO continues to go down the path of being nothing more than a way for people to make gold or acquire items to sell to other players or websites for RL money, the less and less I want anything to do with it. It would be one thing if it was actually EA or Broadsword that was putting the items up for sale and I had some small hope that the proceeds from selling stuff to players might actually be plowed back into UO to make it more enjoyable for everyone. But as it is now, I've just about completely lost interest in playing a game that is just a mechanism for so many players to use as a "job" offering an unreported, tax-free source of income.

I love the loot. I don't see why it's such a big deal that the reason people attend EM events is just to get a drop and sell to make some gold. Frankly the EM event story lines aren't exactly page turners so I go for the loot. I'm personally not interested in selling anything I get for gold or rl money. I just like collecting em event items for my trophy room.

While I agree with the sentiment that selling and buying stuff for real money is bogus, I don't think it's fair to generalize EM events encouraging that sort of thing. I know it happens, but I wouldnt stop attending EM events because of that.

Regarding the gems, I hope they are not merely deco. And if they are a turn in, I hope they can be obtained in other ways (but extremely challenging ways and small quantities as to not flood a shard with them). Whatever da Vinci that designed them clearly didn't prioritize making them look pretty. I wish they took the form of the original smaller gems. I think it would be pretty cool to turn em in (full set) for a ticket for some super rare piece of a set or something, kinda like how the Phoenix tickets worked. But hey that's just me.

thats true....if they are going to be more than deco then the devs would need to add content to alow them to be gotten away form em events...definate

I think they are purely deco but I love them.

Items with an exact 1 time chance to obtain them are bad for the game, i hope the devs did learn that lesson. Especially if its a set of 4 items.
Good for you you if you enjoy the general greed at those em events, quite a lot of old skool people hate those. Ultima series games used to be about virtues, these days the whole game does revolve about greed.
I've said that for a long time. All they do is feed greed and cause people to be just downright nasty to one another. They quit working on community long time ago and it seems everything now is all about getting stuff and what it's worth... no one cares to do anything in-game anymore if they don't get something worth a fortune. Honestly I believe they need to put stuff in game that fosters community and working together in teams. There is hardly any reason anymore to be in a guild at all. Everyone pretty much solo's everything so why join a guild? There is no advantage to working together anymore. Even champs are solo'd all the time. It seems to me the game is no longer and MMORPG..... It's more of a MegaMoneyMakingGreedGeneratingPlatformforMakingExtraDollars.... strictly for the few but other wannabe's try to take part and play with the big boys...Though the formula tends to step all over those who think they are playing the MMORPG they used to love.

MalagAste and Tina have both expressed my opinion of the current type of EM events so there is no need for me to elaborate further other than to say I too have given up on them. I have none of the gems and have no interest in acquiring any.
