Getting back into the game and population question...

Hi there,

I'm a old school UO player, but I haven't been back in a while. Lets just say I got that itch again :)

I'm just wondering how the population has held up, how the game has held up.. etc.

How long would it take me to get back into it? I mean in terms of levelling up a character to a point where I can have some fun.

What do people do nowadays?

Thank you.

Guess it depends on just "how" Old School is :)

I'm back after maybe 10 years? Certainly at least 8.

Immediate differences I've noticed :
3d client now is more pleasing to the eye, though some people still prefer 2D.
Skill caps at 700 skill points - really makes you choose how to tailor your character.
Ability to lock down abilities too (STR, DEX, INT) to a total sum of 225 I think it is.
Boss mobs.
Resist Magic doesn't work the way it used to, and lichs nail me in less than 2 secs.... >.< Orc mages make me run and cry....

I'm on Pacific (I think this is the server I was on a long long time ago....) and run around freely. Blowing the cobwebs off my memory reserves on where I used to hunt.

Who would have thought a 14day trial period would cost me so much....can't upgrade anything til trial runs out....can't move my mage off Bahael(?) can't upgrade to ML to get an elf.....ah well...just a couple more days...

Welcome back btw....

As someone who has stopped and came back to UO at least 2 or 3 times over the last 4 years I've really noticed the population drop on my shard, Lake Superior. The towns are empty compared to how they once were and it's rare to meet anyone out in the wilderness or even some dungeons. However I still feel it's the same old game I always loved and as for training up new characters, that shouldn't take too long; a week or two I gather.

Dont forget that your old account is most likely still there and you can get it back if you remember the log in info. Might be worth a try.

Cats has a decent population, enough for me. Biggest change I noticed when I returned is now the bank sitting is at Luna and Brit is empty. Good Luck, welcome back and Have Fun!
