Gargoyle Tamer?

Currenlty I'm an elf, for the 20 mana bonus. I hunt mainly with greater dragons.

I'm tempted by the gargoyle's flying thing. The plan would be, of course, to leave the dragon in some safe place, fly anywere i'd like then hide, log out and log in to get the pet teleported where I am. Think to navrey's lair for an example (obviously balls of pet summoning don't work otherwise they could be of some use).

The question is: is the log in-log out "trick" considered an exploit? Because it looks like it is :D and if it is then my flying around would be pointless (we all know that the greater dragon is a winged snail).

I do this when I can not use my pet ball.

I also "power log" to save my pets when I die and my pet is low.

Thanks for the anwser. So it is not officially considered an exploit? I'll be a garg soon then :D.

Ok, i did it.

My first impression is that gargs have far better basic equipment: i got almost 70 armor just with exceptional parts. Mounted speed flight is also very useful.

If one doesn't care about riding tamed pets i'd say gargoyle is the way to go for a tamer.

I've debated this with my self already, and almost went Gargoyle as well. Two things are stopping me:

1) My Nightmare might get mad and burn my house down
2) I would have to re-acquire all my gear/arties right?

#2 is really 95% the reason.

I did it too!

It really is very nice. The biggest drawback is(I was elf before)not taming Cu's. Now I hardly ever used Cu's before but I did enjoy taming and selling them.

Just thinking about taming greater dragons at mounted speed ohhh ahhh chills!

Yeah, i forgot about the cu thing.

Another drawback is taming fire beetles: getting them out without riding them will be a little pain.

Anyway i like flying a lot :D.

Are your greater dragons able to keep up with you flying? I find that even running on foot, my g-drags lag behind and I have to walk.

My greater snails can't keep up even if i crawl on my knees.

But the same is for any pet (at least in my experience).

I thing i noticed in one of my template-experiments is that with herding if you order a pet to follow you it runs a lot faster than usual. Maybe someone with herding can confirm it.

What i do right now is to use the ball of pet summoning in the very restricted, limited and useless areas where it works. In all the other places, i leave the pet in some safe area, fly in some interesting place then do the relog hack.

And i could start a rant of three pages about how annoying this is. Sometimes in Sampire Online I have the feeling that someone is suggesting us that if we can't avoid to be tamers then we should at least have the good taste to leave the greater dragon stabled.

After a couple of experiments i think that something is broken with the pet-following speed.

Most of the times the pet doesn't keep up the pace but in few occasions the miracle happens and the (greater dragon or boura were my test pets) follows you with no gap even at fly speed.

Maybe the trigger condition that makes the pet "run" needs to be revised then. I submitted a bug via the client, let's see.

Honestly I dot know the cause here but my beetle bake combo has kept up nearly every time. My GD happens to be prepatch (143 stm) and he "can" keep up but doesnt always. I think its based on total stm being over 125.

For me its more about maneuvering my avatar during fights/spawns/taming more then a pet following me somewhere. 9/10 I use the log trick to get my pets where I need them to be. My garg tamer is not a mage so I just became accustomed to it with fresh tamed --->stable.

If I need to run due to heath issues poison or being overwhelmed my mobs while I have 5 slots out being a garg just make it....yea..

Ok, Elf again.

The sum of my experience is:

flying is a life saver (especially with paragons on your tail) but only for the tamer;
flying to the hunting place and relogging to get the pet looks hacky, is tedious and feels bad (note to self: working balls of pet summoning could open an entire new world of tame-fights, as proved by the night terrors and minion of scelestus environment);
i missed the variety of artifacts available to elves (particularily in the sdi area);
i missed badly the riding: wings are cool, but a reptalon is better;
it looks easier to make a good gargoyle suite because earrings and necklace starts with low values so you can add, say, 15 or more points physical using just one imbuing pass.
