Gargoyle Flight Problem

Interesting point just came up on the siege boards.

Gargoyles will be able to move at mounted speed while carrying a Greater Dragon in tow.

Problem with this is Greater Dragons are so powerful that players were not supposed to be able to do anything but run with them.

I am ok with Gargys flying while keeping them in tow but with PVP after they are dismounted they need to be forced to cast their flight form and carry the same ast time as an etheral mount. This will fix any complaints that will arise with gargys being too fast with GD's while pvping.

It's pretty presumptuous to say this is a problem when there isn't even a PC gargoyle in the game yet. I would assume that they will make flight "form" take up a follow slot.

My only question...will thieves be able to snoop/steal from them while they fly?

Will they be able to stealth while they fly?...la

Unlike animal form?
Yes unlike animal form as that is a skill and flight will be passive.

Previous poster mentioned a control slot... I thought about that but then they wouldnt be able to run a mare/beetle combo and that would be unfair. Adding in a casting time i beleive would make it fairer.

Now with this flight ability, can gargoyles say, fly over water to islands?

Like around the Trinsic/Jhelom areas? Gonna be a drain on dex much like wolf worm?

IMO flight needs to work like ehty mounts in order for it to be balanced.

To be explicit, it would work like this. A gargoyle is either in flying mode or walking. To enter flying mode the gargoyle hits a macro or something (similar to clicking on an ethy) and waits for his character to take flight. While in flying mode the character moves at mounted speed at the cost of 1 control slot. The character can't do anything while flying that also can't be done while mounted (stealth, dismount, etc)

So basically, flight will work exactly like ethies, but you don't need to own an ethy to fly. Oh, and you can access flight-only areas.

I think polymorph should allow access to flight only areas too and ninja reptalon form should allow flight. I don't have a problem with necro wraith form allowing flight as well.

No more unfair than ethereals taking up a control slot. Sarphus actually described the way it would work much better than I did.

On the SA web site it says there are areas that only Gargoyles can get access to. I will guess this means you can only get there by flying, and that teleport/recall ect would not work to get to, or in those area's.

With the pass thru penalty, if 2 Gargoyles are flying directly at each other from to different dirrections, and they collide, in mid air, what happens? hehehe

Yes but as a human/elf you would be able to move at mounted speed while riding your mare with beetle/dragon whatever in tow as a gargoyle you would lose this ability.

Would it really surprise anyone that EA will add the overpowered Gargoyle race into the game without giving a second thought about game balance?

They've been pulling the same scam for years;

New expansion comes out with overpowered race/skill/item. Everyone is practically forced to upgrade in order to stay competitive. Then a year later after the expansion sales die off, EA will nerf everything they added to near uselessness.

So I fully expect to see Gargoyles flying at mounted speed with GD's in tow, probably shooting fireballs out of their mouths while enhancing new artifacts to 100%+ intensities.

From what I heard from the Town Hall, this is probably where it will end up. They already said there will be a "casting" timer the same as an ethy. I think the control slot should be there, too (I also think ninja forms that allow mounted speed should have control slots). Ditto on the stealth, etc, tho I *could* see dismount from a flying position being possible from an *it makes sense* stand ... it would be out of balance and so should not be allowed.

Hopefully, that's what they'll do.

Flying is supposed to be similar to being Mounted or in Animal form. I can't see why you'd be allowed to steal in flight mode though as on a Mount you can't Stealth, and in animal form you can't steal...maybe it'll be a mix half way between these.

As far as being an issue with GD's in Tow...it's not GD's are frickin slow....moving at mounted speed you'll just leave it in the dust.

It was stated at the Seattle town hall, that Gargoyles would have a casting time to get into flight mode, like ethereals. Gargoyles can be "dissmounted" out of flight mode. The question came up as to weather they should be able to Stealth while in Flight mode and the reply was an overwhelming NO!

As for Animal form speed vs. Gargoyle flight speed, seems the same to me, ya animal form is a skill, but who cares the end result is what we are looking at, the follower count, movement speed, and dissmountablility.

Can't you steal while mounted anymore? It's been a while since I played a thief, but I'm pretty sure you can steal while mounted.

I don't remember for certain, but I think you can. Pretty sure I almost always stayed mounted stealing sigils (opting for a fast get-away rather than a stealthy one).
