Gaining weapon skill to 120 after 110?

I've been sparring Arctic Overlords getting some decent gains in bush and tacts but spirit speak and weapon skill are moving slowly. I read the FAQ and there doesn't seem to be much other than golem until 115. Would someone recommend a creature to spar with to get good gains in weapons? I would also be interested if anyone has any constructive suggestions on how to raise SS to 120 too.

I have plenty of skill points left on a 720 temp...it is just inexperience on my behalf as to why I can't crank the gains up.

Thanks.

Hmm... I've never used that golem method and haven't had much difficulty raising any weapon skill - maces, fencing, swords, archery. If you are already at 110 skill, I would suggest getting decent jewelry with the weapon skill on it and go hunting and not worrying about it. It will gain and best of all, you will get experience at actually USING the skill rather than whacking a golem which teaches you nothing. And you don't actually need 120 skill to do pretty well against most monsters - but if it is for PvP then use jewelry to get you close.

As far as which monsters to hit, anything with high melee skills - cyclops worked well for me, but you can check these out for yourself in the Stratics Hunters guide which includes monsters skills.

One method that I've seen people use to gain SS skill quickly is to go to the Twisted Weald in Ilshenar and attack one of the satyrs until it discords you, then use an invis potion to get it to stop attacking you. Then just stay in range and use the SS skill.

Other than that, I don't know what you consider slow skill gain. I thought any weapon skill and SS get very fast gains all the way to 120, especially when compared to taming, discord, provoke, blacksmithing, poisoning (back in 2000)...

I hit Legendary on Daemons, but Ogre Lords will get you there too.

I hit 115 on Stone Harpies. That went relatively fast too. I was thoroughly surprised they had high enough Wrestling for me to be able to gain from them at that level.

I never went above GM on a Golem, so I don't know about that.

As for SS, check out this sticky from the Spell Caster Forum.

I've trained all of the melee skills, and with the exception of Fencing, all were trained within 3 days. At your level, you should head to the Yomotsu Mines, go to the 2nd room where 2 warriors spawn, and start hacking away. You'll be at 120 in a matter of a couple of hours or less. The warriors spawn faster than you can kill them, so you'll never find a time where you're not swinging.

Don't bother with the golems, golems are for sissies.

Amazing,

Thanks for the suggestions, tips and all.

Yeah the golem stuff got boring way too fast, I'd rather make some change and get exp while gaining skill. I will most definitely check out all this later tonight I hope.

Thanks folks.
