Frustrations with my Archer--Long post!

Hello all!

As I've said before, I'm returning after a VERY long absence. Since I played an archer/lumberjack so many years ago, I created an ABC archer. I've been playing my archer for almost a month now, and I have to admit, it is fun playing an archer again. I'm have problems, though, with the higher level monsters. Before I get into my questions, I'll post my temp and armor:

Archery 105.7/110 (need +20 scroll)
Tactics 101/110
Resist 100/100
Anatomy 99.3/100 (will drop to 90 when needed)
Bushido 85.4/110 (need +20 scroll)
Healing 83/100
Chivalry 69.9/80

Stats: 95/125/35

For armor, I hunt in:
Brightsight lenses (working on Mace and Shield)
Jackals collar
rune beetle carapice
leggings of bane
frostbringer
Resilient Bracer
Primer on Arms
Ring: Dex +8, DCI 11% DI 23%, 0/0/0/11/11
Barbed Sleeves reflect physical 5%, 11/13/5/6/20

As for bows, I carry the night reaper and nox ranger's x bow
(my brother plays, that is how I got most of my gear)

Now, to my issue:
I've either not been playing this temp right or not been fighting the right monsters, because I've been getting clobbered by higher level monsters when I try to go solo. Ice fiends go down in 2-3 hits with the night reaper, but I can not go much higher. I imagine that it is really funny for other characters watching me with all this high level gear on, dying because I do not know how to play.

Here is how I usually enter combat: honor, (if monster is alone, EoO until I get it), Divine Fury, LS, hit. During combat, CW, and LS spam until I run out of mana. I've tried Doom. That was a joke...I couldn't even get to the enchantress alive. Tried Swoop, 2 or 3 hits, and I'm running for the exit to heal. Changelings kill me on the way to DH. Crystal Demons in the Prism took me out quick. Bedlam...I don't even want to go into what happened there. Last night wasn't so bad... I was in a party of 7, killing Lady Mel. I actually stayed alive during the fight, but it was because of the mages trapping her in those fields.

Am I just getting myself in over my head (not high enough skill, yet) or am I not doing something right? I know a lot of it depends on playstyle, but I'd like to know how to better what I'm doing so I can get to the point where I don't have to run in fear every time I see a paragon mongbat
... okay, a little sarcastic...

Any help would be much appreciated!

I feel your pain brother I to have similar template not as good of gear though and I had never been in any of the peerless dungeons so decided to make me some machetes and go into blighted ...all is cool for the first 20 steps I see reapers no biggie killed it fast then I see 2 of these pretty butterfly's next thing I know it looks like me there was a third critter but I never got the chance to see what it was because I was dead so I ran out got rezzed and came back in and boom dead again thanks to the fellow that came in rezzed me so I could loot my bodies and I then left lots of fun that was so I would love to here how to do this better I'm thinking for sure I need to go in with a group

Your template looks fine but to take on those high level monsters you'll need to develope him a bit more.

Your equipment looks fine but here are a few specific things to look for. (I'm not sure if you played pre or post age of shadows)

You armor needs to be all 60 or more in all your resists. Physical, Fire, Cold, Energy, and Poison. (you may be weak in one or more of these, this could be why some monsters hit you so hard)

Your still not at a level where you'll have an easy time with tuffer monsters. (At 105 archery I still missed a LOT) The monsters you mentioned killing you kill alot of players with developing characters. If your short on gold try looking for 115 scrolls in Bushido and Archery. These will make a good stop gap and still give you a good chance at surviving tuffer monsters.

At your current level I'd stick to monsters you can kill easily for gold and skill points while you build your template. At your current levels if you fight peerless and other upper end monsters do it in groups (like you mentioned at Lady Mel)

Your tactics seem to be sound, don't forget to use slayer weapons whenever possible. (especially if hunting alone) Watch out for the opposite slayers. They will do more damage to you and you'll do less to them as long as you hold an opposite slayer weapon.

Here's a tip that I used to max out my template as I aquired scrolls.

Find a magical short bow or repeating crossbow that DOESN'T have DI on it. Make sure you don't have any DI on your suit. Bring lots of arrows/bolts and go fight Artic Ogre Lords. (They spawn solo and are fairly hard to hit but move slow and don't cast) Attack one and kite him (moving a bit ahead of him as not to get hit) Using this set up you'll get more shots on your target (your trying to gain skills not kills) and the loot isn't half bad either.

Next no matter what your fighting always start a bandage as soon as you take a SINGLE POINT of damage. (you never know what might hit you next) Cure poison asap. (you never know what might hit you next) Practice you macros (bandages, cures, heals, etc) so you can use them quickly without looking for them. (seconds count especially vs high level monsters and double so if you try PVP)

Lastly try to find good weapons that have mana leech on them. In most UO situations as long as you have mana you'll be ok. Run out of it... not so much.

There's really not much I could add to this except to say that if you're going to sacrifice in any resist, Poison is usually the least likely to cause death, and to suggest you build up your Honor, then Honor yourself prior to heading up through the desert so the Changelings don't target you. Since you're already working Honor through Bushido, you already have quite a bit built up, but keep in mind that the higher your Honor level, the longer the effects of Honoring yourself last.

Keep at it. Once you hit 120 it won't be quite as tough as it is now.

Get in a group or guild that regularly does peerless. Its fun and you can train up your character at the same time.

I tend to agree. You can build skills fairly quickly fighting a peerless. In a group you should be fairly safe and when doing peerless you get a chance at getting a crimson cinture. (a piece you can sell for BIG gold or keep for yourself)

Illish is also a good place to hunt and if your killing demons and dragons and their paragons your well on your way to getting used to the changes.
