Why does EA boast a free 14 day trial that "I will not be charged for" and after downloading and trying to register, I use the trial registration key and it wants to charge me $12 for Age of the Samurai for some reason when i try and activate.

You will not be charged for your first 30 days, but they still want payment information.

I tried, it even says "you will be billed $12 for age of the samurai" It will not let me register without selecting age of the samurai under billing options and then it looks like it wants to bill me anyway.

Furthermore then 2 gig trial download I got has an crc error for one od the cab files so i can't even install the game unless I donwload it again.

I also tried to download it from two different sources that is on the KR webpage. CRC errors on both of them. I did not try to download any others.

Luckily, I had the beta client on a dvd.

Man, you want to talk about patch hell!

they charge 1$ to verify the card is good....the rest of the time is free

Actually they charge the tax upfront, even if you don't use the free trial when you register your card you get billed the tax.

Needless to say I was upset.

Ok, screw this. I tried, but EA should do a better job of distributing their trial then making it seem like I'm gonna get charged 12$ for the trial and I download the 2.2 gig trial from two different locations, only to get a bad crc on data10.cab on BOTH seperate downloads.

Forget this.

The free trial version that they give is basic. None of the bells and whistles with that. If you want access to all the stuff u gotta pay for the upgrades.

I've never been charged one cent for trial accounts. Also, when downloading the client, it's best to use a download manager.

*wonders if this is a good place for a debate over whether there should be free trials at all*

Is giving a tour to someone unwilling to pay $10 for a look really worth more than all the (alleged) abuse of trail accounts?

I sold that like 3-4 years ago. I'm pretty sure its not active anymore, my old house is still there but under new ownership. I guy named Kudis. My old character Kulharin that I sold no longer seems to exsist, and if he does, his name was probably changed.

Where did you obtain this free trial code, and where are you downloading from?

The 2D client is less than 700MB from EA's FTP site...the KR one is over 2GB so I am guessing that is what you are downloading?

ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/uo/

Free trial codes from the 9th AE boxes have all the content enabled as far as I know. Someone probably has one lying around that they might be willing to give to you, as many people bought several copies of the 9th AE boxes just for the early release goodies that came with them, and have no real use for the trial codes on the box.

The free trial codes that came with UO Gold which you find at game sites such as File Planet, were pre Samurai empire and do not include the content in the expansions unless you pay for the expansion.

If you are going to do that, though, it would be best to just buy the 9th AE box, that way you get all the expansions through ML at less cost than buying just the expansion upgrade code from the EA store plus you have the installation CDs.
