this may have always been the case and I just never noticed it before.... all the items, except for the fern, on the north edge are not really sitting on the first floor, they are outside the foundation limits and they are all locked down.... I did not receive the "items must be inside your house" or whatever that message is.....

so, can someone tell me, have we always been able to do this? are these items at risk now even tho they say 'locked down'?

That shouldn't be the case o_O as far as I know, at least, you still can't lock down items outside your house. It may be a bug with that particular foundation or something that allows you to make use of the square? I'm curious, because if we can deco the edges of our foundations I'll be all over that! :D

kay, shots with blank foundation.....

right now I've got plants behaving the same way on the west and north walls, and I've got pile of coins also locked down, clearly not in the house, on the north side

gonna wait til tomorrow and see what's left there :D

Remember reading about not being able to set deeded items on the eastern tiles any more. Wonder if somehow tiles of houses were shifted one tile north and one tile west of what we were accustomed to. Can you lock down on the west side of your plot too?

Its simple I do it on all m y foundations to make it appear that it is outside the building. Simple use a square goza and make your foundation like the white brick. place the goza then raise it up. You can put decorations on it and even trees to make it appear to be outside of the house.

right, Gareth, you certainly could do that, but that's not what I did... when I set the poppies and lillies they go right under the outside foundation wall, and I can lock them down.... the other things do the same, but as you can see the little tree is sitting right on the wall and the bullrushes are setting higher.... I did not use a deco tool on them, they are just as they fell

Spellbound, yes, the items on the western edge are also locked..... this is what I'm leaving overnight, so we'll see what happens... the coins are what really got me :)

please pardon the mess, this was the Christmas house and will be my garden house, just as sooooon as I am done with the stable house

Hi
I am going to make a guess. When you place an 18x18 for example, you only actually get 17x17 + a wall on the north and west sides. The walls, on the north and west takes up the 18th square either direction. Since you placed a 18x18 you should be able to use that extra ground which looks like its outside the walls on the north and west but is really part of your 18th square.

everything is still in place this morning, both lots... I'm just befuddled by it all, and very amused that it took me 109 months to notice this little quirk  ....... uhmm.... feature

the thing that has me most confused is how the little juniper tree sits.... if you place it on a tile it sits in the southwest corner of the tile, toss it off that north wall and it sits directly on the wall.... so Sharantyr, what you're saying makes sense then :) and I always thought that those missing tiles on a placement were because of the front steps somehow

speaking of front steps, wasn't there a change a while back that included not being able to lock things down on the front steps? or was that change strictly for deeded items on the steps?

Shar - I knew that the tile count worked like that, but I have never really tried or seen anyone try placing items right on the wall - I just assumed that it would not work, being that the walls place right on the inner edge of that square, and you can't place floor tiles on it so there wouldn't be a spot to lock things down.

If you -can-, I'm going to redesign my house and use this trick for sure! Does anyone know if it's breaking any of the rules to take advantage of this, or is it just another useful 'feature' of the housing code? :D

I'm jumping on the "it's an unintended bug" bandwagon. A friend tried placing a plot a few days ago and for absolutely no visible reason wasn't able to place within 5 tiles of the house to the north, closest possible was 6 tiles separating the two spots. Somehow this north and west shift is playing havoc on placement and allowing off-plot lockdowns. OOPS!

yah, I recently had a nasty time with a resize, and I'm sure now that it was because of this.... but it only affected the north edge, the western edge is snug up against the house next door, just as it should be, as is the eastern edge
