For how long have you been away?

An interesting question surfaced as sidenote on another thread.

Starting from moment you first came to Ultima Online, how much time have you spend completely away from game, with no active subscription running on any of your accounts at all?

..Obviously we all started this game at very different moments. Poll options won't take this into account. I am going to assume significant majority of people started playing at some point in 00s or 90s. Pls specify this in post if you like!

Also, I managed to hit enter at wrong time and thread got created half finished. I can't finish the poll options via edit. If some mod could add few more options and fix the typos I'd appreciate!

I started playing in 2002. I've had one 4 year long break and one 3 year long break. After 10 years finally ended up with a house that actually holds amount of meaning to me and can't see myself unsubbing again, ever!

Yeah I've met quite a few people like that recently as well. I ended up posting half finished thread by mistake:/ Can't edit the poll options anymore, it'd be nice if some mod could add few more years in there.

Two accounts, one from Dec 1997, one from April 2000 and haven't let them lapsed, although right now the only reason I log in is to empty ore carts on a (roughly) weekly basis while I play Path of Exile and wait to see how Shroud of the Avatar pans out. If SotA end up being as amazing as hoped, that COULD see my accounts close... especially if LONG promised updates such as High Res Artwork in the EC doesn't happen.

Longest I ever went without logging in has been 2 whole weeks. None of my accounts has been "out of service" for more than that.

I don't do the one month on 2 months or 3 months off thing EVER... Only a couple times have I not played ..... Loss of internet was one. I don't like to talk about the other.

I tend to play like regularly (multiple times a week)... a month a year, usually halloween time. I play casually like half the year, logging in a few times a month to run around. The rest of the time my account is inactive, and activated in time to save my house.

Thinking about calling it quits though. My interest in MMO's in general is really low now a days.

Started July 9th 1998 @ 1:10am CST. Account has been open ever since. Started a 2nd account 80 months ago that one has also been open ever since.

I have taken breaks from the game occasionally, but I keep the accounts open. Nothing I have ever played since has had the lure of UO, and held my interest like UO has... But some of the ones ive played that were really good are (Bethesda games) Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas Oblivion, Skyrim, GTA4... and soon to be GTA5.

I dunno, with this whole little mermaid under-tha-sea-bee-ess... think its gonna be a GTA5 fall/winter for me.

I played until a few months after the Origin Shard was introduced. I remember rushing to place a house and we beat 99% of the people, but still placed in an area outside of Luna out of ignorance.

Never could find the exit moongate.

I found the moongate that sends me to the cryogenic chamber for long sleeps, but do not know the description of the exit, so never jumped when it cycled by.

Not entirely true, I played beta for a short stint, but left after realizing it was pointless to leave Trinsic as I instantly died to the mages deadly and poison. They seemed to live and breathe early uo 24-7.. I returned before tram was born and played until just after AOS morphed uo into every other item based game of its time. At that point I left my account in trusted hands to maintain a house in the Goodman complex while I slept. I logged in on occasion to check in, hoping that the need to copy had abated. I was finally intrigued by the new imbue system and was talked into playing again, and am seeing some community return with the new election system.

Started in August 2003. Played until the winter of my freshman year of college (I think it was then, but I know I first closed my account in 2005.)

I was bored one day in September 2007, so I decided to reactivate for a month. Closed my account again after that. Came back once more in 2010 when I heard about Return to Brit.

Recently, I've been getting my playtime on trial accounts, playing on TC1. I was hoping that Return to Brit would happen this year, but I haven't seen anything about it. I'm not opposed to spending the $ to reactivate for a month, but with the PS4 launch coming + a few games across various systems I want (Link Between Worlds and Pokemon X/Y [one of them, anyway] for the 3DS, and KH3 on the PS4), UO account reactivation is kinda at the bottom of the list.

Lino started in 97' but did get his original account banned for racial slur :/

End of 2005 we quit UO...
Summer 2007 we missed UO...we were nostalgic.

But we did quit 2 weeks after...uo was having those duping problems.

So we left UO Europa again...Europa was diffirent.
The population was low...epic low.

Uo just wasn't the same anymore...


I did return to brit in 2010...to check out who was still playing.
But it didn't really convince me to reactivate my account.

Europa is too empty.
It will never be like it was in 2000..when europa was packed.

This time we won't be returning anymore...unless UO is free.

I've been away for a couple of years now, mainly because some RL + work stuff going on. I also tried some new MMOs along the way, but kept getting bored after a few weeks. They are shallow, to say at best. There isn't a single day, I don't miss UO... UO is still - after 16 years - the only game worth to be called MMORPG.

I just came back so thought this was a fitting thread.

Let's see, when did AoS come out? Early 2003? I kind of started losing interest from there, and then SWG came out right around that time so its been a good 10 years since I kept up an account. I have been back for a month here and there, maybe once a year, but just never have been able to stay. Think I have been a bit stubborn with my old ways which seem to no longer work and just give up on it. The way equipment is now and all the different skills seems a bit overwhelming I guess, compared to a simpler time pre-AOS and however many other expansions since.

I picked the longest one as a safe bet.
