Whether you’re just a general fan of the Napoleonic era, Bonaparte’s famous charisma and unworldly skill as a general, or you are merely looking for a new strategy game that goes deeper than constructing buildings and training units, Fog of War: Napoleonic War is a solid new title worth your time.
The game known by its players as NapWar is based in a persistent real time world, and you enter with a single city placed randomly in one of the countries of 18th century Europe. There is an extensive tutorial provided that covers the different game features and teaches the basics of play. Completing these quests allow players to earn rewards that help in the initial construction of city infrastructure and military units.

Players are introduced quickly to the operable military combat system, a feature that allows you to actually give your military units orders in the mist of real time battle. Players may order their units to attack, defend, or retreat each thirty second round, allowing real time command of their units during the moments that count.

NapWar has some pretty amazing features that set it apart from other browser based strategy games. The cornerstone of these being the Realms of Power feature. Apart from player generated cities there are towns, fortresses, provincial capitals, and royal capitals that are historically placed on the world map to represent 18th Century Napoleonic Europe.
After players participate and complete a server wide Epic Quest, the ability to capture these Realms of Power are unlocked and players race to control a “Sphere of Influence” that provides the ability to be promoted to higher military ranks which in turn allows players to control more cities and Realms of Power.

Another great feature of NapWar is the unique role that officers and their equipment play in the overall success of the game. Officers have four primary statistics. Combat Power which adds bonuses to attack power and lowers unit training time, Politics which adds bonuses to city production and makes building construction faster, Sagacity which allows technologies to be researched faster and adds bonuses to scouting and increases the power of different “stratagems” or battle strategies. And lastly Command which increases the speed and power of troops. Certain officers are spread across the map that have skill statistics above and beyond what you see from regular officers throughout the game. These “Famous Military Officers” have to be hunted or won in battles with players.

There are sixteen equipment slots available to each officer and equipment is vital in boosting officer statistics to make your military and civilian officers ever more powerful. You earn equipment from completing quests and participating in battles. The very best equipment can be earned from participating in the PvE battlefield. Set up to mimic historical battles military forces can be brought to the battlefield or hired as mercenaries. Successful completing will result in Honor and Badges that can be exchanged for elite equipment.

Although battlefields are PvE you can offer other players to join in to help complete them. Players from the same alliances will often team up and participate in multiple battlefields allowing faster completion and better rewards. Alliances can also control entire countries by occupying certain Realms of Power located within them.

If you are a player who often chooses to purchase coins or packages to increase the pace of the games, NapWar regularly holds special events that compliment your investments and make the game even more involved and interesting. The game also boosts a wonderful customer support team that is prompt in responding to players that find they need help or have issues.

NapWar is the type of game that will grip you in throes of strategic ecstasy for months. The build and conquer style of the game always begs just a few more actions, a few more battles. But the road to becoming an Emperor is wrought with peril, and only those with true grit ever make the grade. But you are chock full of that, right?
