Archer mages can actually be pretty fun... I had one for a while. It's nice because when they start to run you can still moving shot them down.
I used the crystalline for 20 magery, but after items I was:
115 Mage (95 plus crystalline 20, if no crystalline drop med to 60)
115 Eval
115 Resist
120 Arch
90 Tactics
105 Anatomy
80 Meditation
My suit was pretty nice, used faction folded steel and armor of fortune, and quiver of infinity for DCI. I used the Faction Primer on Arms, Faction Storm Grip, and Weapons for HCI/DI. I usually used a regular bow for para shot and mortals and switched to a heavy when I needed running shot. The rest of the armor was purely LRC/Resist pieces. I think I ended up with like 20ish LMC and 6 MR. It's not horrible considering I was 100 lrc and 45 dci with 43 hci and all 70's corpse proof.
Many are wondering why anatomy? Well, it really pumped my damage up. I was hitting for 20 with a regular bow, 25-30ish with the heavy. I also used it because of (Eval + Anat + 20) / 2 = Defensive ability. The biggest problem with Tactic Mages IMO is that you can be disarmed and you're useless, well not with Anat and Eval. You can still cast like nothing was wrong.
It's also nice because you can change your play style up whenever you want. If you feel like just running around shooting people you can pump up your dex and drop your intelligence and just use magery to heal and occasionally curse or poison. You wouldn't even need to use a spell channeling bow since you have anat/eval that allows you to cast when wep disarmed.
Personally, I ran around with about 120 mana and 65 stamina. The only thing I have against this build is I couldn't fit parry in it (without dropping resist)!
