Fishing for Dummies: Unicorn Fish Chapter
I was sitting at the White Rose Tavern in Mith late the other night. SOS our fisherman came in. He was wearing a grin from ear to ear, but also had tears in his eyes. What is wrong my child I inquired.
He relayed that after weeks of hiding/stealth around The Wield the Unicorn Fish was still unfound, He heard that Ox and his fearless group were planning a trip to kill Dread Horn. D.O.G. had obtained enough keys for 6.75 runs.
That’s it! I thought. If I can talk then into letting me tag along, I could fish while they killed the Nasty Beast. The response was swift, only true warriors are allowed to join us, there is no place for a stinking fisherman there, you would not last five seconds in that place. But I can hide and slip to the shore. I have to have one of those fish, even if it kills me! Hummmm….. he said, let me talk with the group and run it by them. The next day the awaited response came, ok you can go but you will be on your own, we will be way too busy fighting to worry about you. Done I said and I will be donating assorted pies to the troops for their trouble.
So I found myself in party, waiting for D.O.G. to place the last key. And in we went. I waited until the dragons were on the beast and I ran like a bat out of hell to the west side of the island, My hands were shaking as I applied the bait. After six attempts I felt my trusted bloodwood bend as it pulled a fish from the depths. In disbelief I looked in my pack and there it was “A UNICORN FISH”. He was whiter than the winter dragon fish I had gotten in Ice Dungeon, only not nearly as heavy.
We did several more runs and I was rewarded with more Unicorns, not bad I thought I managed to get a 132 stone grandfather.
Time came for the last run, and D.O.G. lost the toss of lady luck, he was to get the last key, and off he went. It was not long before we saw the familiar ‘OooooOooooo”. We then heard this loud ‘CRACK, CRACK ….” And to our utter disbelief we saw the New EM over D.O.G.‘s body attempting to perform CPR !! I am afraid all his ribs are broken he said, and explained to the speechless group that he had the right to help, “its in the fine print of the contract”, read it and see.
Muffin managed to res D.O.G. but the poor fellow could not put his chest piece on.
With a couple of Chalistras on him he managed to participate in the last kill, and as I recalled he even got a mane.
We of course thanked the EM for his valiant deeds, even though I did in my best polite tone tell him that he should become ACLS certified (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). He said he was very busy, but would put it in his long list of things to do.
Poor D.O.G. is laid up in the healers hut in Brit, The quacks there say it will be at least a month before he can put his chest piece back on. Flowers would be appreciated.
Hence the grin and the tears in my eyes. A bittersweet moment.
BTW, SOS is a Legendary Fisherman, 103 baits I used he said.
