Finally Quitting the Game

I'll keep it short and sweet just wanted to say a little something, been playing over 11 years on Chesapeake and thought id be here till the end, but the time has come to say good bye, started out as a hardcore pvper and became a rare collector eventually had a lot of fun with that attending EM events for a while, but then the game just got boring and nothing they created would excite me, i didn't even have a slight urge to go to Shame dungeon with all those new changes, pvp is beyond lame now probably since ninja and bush came out and got worse and worse with SA, i mean whoever doesn't think a throwing gargoyle is a beyond OP template then i dunno what to say..... hopefully ill be remembered for running some rares festivals and helping establish the silent auction, and establishing Moria player village on Chessy

PS: Chesapeake for life, classic client for life, and the only way ill ever come back is if a classic shard comes out

I will miss certain people and old school UO, but I won't miss current UO and the direction it continues to go in

Well, i didnt know you personally, but sucks to see you go.

Your gameplay history kinda sounds like mine =). 14 years on Pacific. I "quit" about a year ago... but never really quit. It helps to take a break occasionally. Play a different game or something. Ive had 3, 4... 6 month stretches where i didnt play, but still kept the account open. After a nice long break, i found i could get back into, and play the game for a few hours a day again. When Skyrim came out last november, thats all i played for a few months... the annoying lockups and crashes with bethesda games got the better of me, and now im playing uo again.

Take a break, play something else. Well see you on the horizon.

You mad Bro? Think that's actually a stigma that needs to be attached to the title of Dev? It's not all Devs making decisions, developers do a job they are told to do, some are mostly software, some do the 'math', some mainly art. While some may have influence over decisions, I think ultimately, it comes down to who is calling the shots. Who makes the directional decisions for the game, and I think that may surprise some.

At least the beast suits do something look at all the junk they add(weapons with -40 di really??) and bosses that almost no one kills. That high seas boss that takes someone like 2 months(that is someone doing 8-12 quests a day) of doing fishing quest to get the bait and spyglass.

I been thinking hard and well if i should reply to this thread . BUT i have also come to my end time in this game . I started in 1998 and been on and of sence . My oldest account is now 10 year and at the most i hade 8 accounts running . Down to 1 now .. Seeing the eye candly being handled out past years by EM´s in masses has just made me sick ... + The clear way Mythic/EA look at UO = Cheater in no matter way will always be allowed and the honest players will pay the prise for their behavor . And that is not accepteblt and i will no longer continue to add to theese companies profite . And thats all i have to say about this and i bid you all a good day and hopefully better days in UO

i chose not to compete, seeing something so stupid as what pvp turned into from what is was when i started the game is the real joke, i shouldn't have to adapt to these random changes that the devs feel like putting in, easier to not deal with it than to be annoyed by it, if you can't kill people and loot everything off them when u kill them then its lame, so what is the answer to that? play darkfall

another thing that helped make me quit the game is how bad the customer service is and how easy it is to get hacked, got hacked once before didnt want to again especially since EA doesnt replace anything, had too much to risk...

Let's face it, UO is now a themepark game with sandbox elements, there really isnt no other way to describe it, at ,least for me... but... i have enjoyed it since my return, it's been fun for six weeks, but i won't be continuing after, the game just makes me yearn for Darkfall, an old school MMO.

There is always the other side also those that did stink in pvp like me that time was the worst grind ever in uo for me made me quit in 2000 i came back in 2006 or 07 my uo play time did look like this back then kill ettins or any other monster to get 5000gp to pay the crafter to get a suit loose it 1-2 hours later then go back and kill ettins again so i could buy another suit every time i played pretty much the same and it made me quit

It worked for some, but not for others.

Personally I saw in the region of 3/1, that is three leaving, to one staying post AoS.

A really good example of the effect of AoS to me was, that a friend who had previously been pretty poor in spell casting, i.e they couldn't get the spell timing right, suddenly became very good due to item's, where as friend's who were exceptional with timing, suddently became alienated because they only ever logged in for PvP, they never item grinded or worried about gold, they just enjoyed the fighting side of UO, but with the introduction of powerscrolls and then uber items that AoS brought+insurance, found themselves out in the cold.

I just take little breaks so I don't OD. I suggest you do the same. At least don't do the single dumbest thing all UO addicts before you have done: drop all your stuff on the ground and IDOC your house. Stick it on packies and in the bank. See you in the late spring when the annual cycle of coming and going is in an upswing again. And chessy is still the best shard, even without you (temporarily).

Lastly, hopefully we can continue to complain about this horrible game for another 14 years. I would like that.

all the stuff is gone, im not coming back ever, no i wasn't stupid and dropped it i have no idea why anyone would do that, no idea why anyone lets their castles collapse instead of selling them, it was a 3 month process to quit the game, sundina and i sold a luna mall, 5 castles, 2 keeps, and 2 new mag tram houses in that time, + everything else we owned so we made quitting well worth it our characters are totally stripped, and we're outta here ! like i said i won't miss current uo, nothing mesanna or anyone can do can ever make us come back, but ill be back if a classic shard comes out thats the only way

i enjoyed being able to loot someone as part of kill to top it off, i didnt kill for the loot, but just the risk of dying and losing everything on you made it more exciting to run around never know whats around the corner, real pvp is dead, i have zero respect for anyone that calls themselves an experienced pvper nowadays, the way its set up is just stupid, i was good at one time and ill leave it at that, i take pride it not enjoying modern day pvp, and im pretty sure more people have heard of me and than you in UO goldberg so thank you very much, u haven't been considered decent since you were in FS!

Siege is still out there if you want to loot people. I don't think looting people is reason enough to quit or stay however.
I understand your problems though, you hold on to accounts for years just waiting for that miracle publish to come out to make it all worthwhile & it never comes and you keep feeding the pigs at EA. Everyone has a breaking point. I watched so many people go over the years for countless reasons, mostly cheaters but lately has been the same reason your leaving. I can't imagine how many people are going to say good bye to Ultima when Diablo 3 hits .... Farewell, good luck..

I have the same feeling but iam not of the opinion that this is caused by the future development of a new client. Also PvP ninjas are bad templates, thats why Lord Birtish never took them in, they are lame and runaway style, but overall it is really good balanced, the problem is there are no players interested in. That is a general problem of UO today, for me the beginning of the end were the colored mobs, coloring mobs means the developers have no money creating new and thats a bad sign! SA in general was one of the best addons ever seen in UO, it was much fun, new gargoyles (not colored humans), new itemsets (not colored items), new areas, new monsters, very cool!

The problem is the gamedesign today is bad, the systems are there, but not used correctly. You need to get something from doing high end monsters, beginning with Doom 2, Champ Spawns, Peerless, SA Peereless and HS Peerless or the crafting the new runic reforging catastrophically designed (a way too complex, looks like developer menues) and not giving good results. The new lootsystem in my eyes is a total miss, the old was good, adding there the new SA mods would be much better and polishing it get more intesity from stronger monsters.

Not sure why you get so upset. I even wished you as much fun in your next game as you had in UO..... Reading is a skill you have not yet GM'd apparently. Indeed perhaps a reason to stay here on statics to try to get to GM, as was suggested by magdalena

Now, as to why I think you need to move on: I think all these "I am quitting posts", including yours, have very little to do with the game and everything to do with the person writing those posts. It is a sign of frustration and anger directed towards your addiction and thus the game, that somehow no longer is able to stimulate your brain to produce enough endorphins or other chemicals to keep you satisfied. Sort of analogous to needing more opioids as time goes on.

It is clearly just fine for a lot of other people that still enjoy the game at various levels, and who will continue to play. It serves no purpose to me to post that rage mail, I am doing just fine in the game (on chessy, pvp and all). It also serves no purpose to you, you have quit as you stated. So, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that the perceived purpose to you must be that somewhere in the back of your mind you are planning on coming back to see if the game will again provide you with your fix. It is the core of your addiction, and I can understand that you are upset. You should however not be upset with the game, or with me for pointing it out, but with yourself. Consider therapy. This game has sucked since 1997 and I have loved every minute of it. Perhaps one day I will feel like you, and I hope I will then have the inner strength to not post anything, but to just cancel my account and walk away....


I hope you get it now, and are no longer mad at me... I wish you a lot of strength and fun with your next game. Just stop posting and walk away if you really are quitting....

Right now I am just reopening my account before house falls every few months.
Hoping the direction of uo starts going back to more classic fantasy fun.
All these new mods on weapons/armor I could go without (as well as triple casting mobs with 2k+ hp).
Fact that item decay whether through brittle, cursed, or unrepairable is being tolerated baffles me.
Havent given tamers much love since they introduced Greater Dragons practically.
Lack of communication via stratics by anyone on the team is frustrating.
