[General] Filling Large BODs

Alkaseltzer

Journeyman
I have a large BOD for 20 of 5 different items. I don't have all the exact smalls to fill it yet. I have 3 of the 5 smalls. I do have a couple of 10s for the one item. Can I use two 10s to fill the one item?

Thanks

If the small bods are not filled yet you can bribe up to a 20.

See this link: Bulk Orders – Ultima Online

Bulk Order Bribery
  • Players may grease the palms of NPCs that give out Bulk Order Deeds
  • The NPC will accept a bribe from the player in order to upgrade a BOD to a better one
    • Upgrades: Quantity, Quality, Material
    • Can only upgrade completely empty deeds
  • NPCs will become more greedy over time and ask for higher bribes
    • Higher level deeds also require higher bribes
  • NPCs who are bribed frequently will come under Guild scrutiny, and stop accepting bribes for a short time
  • To start the process, select the Bribe context menu option on the NPC, and follow the instructions!

Ok, I did it. I turned a couple small 15s to 20. Didn't even cost anything, "0 gold taken from bank account". Connected all my smalls to my Large and turned it in for almost 500 points. Woot! Ya know for as long as I've played this game, I think that is the first LBOD I ever completed. LOL

A few other notes:

  1. MANY skills have a broken BOD system. There are a number of Tinker and Carpentry BODs that are base material only, and some that while the smalls can be exceptional, the LARGES CANNOT. They fixed this for SOME of them, but there are a lot of LBODs that either were not retroactively fixed, or can STILL drop to this day as normal-only. (example: The Tinker's LBOD for Crafting Tools - that ironically does not include Tinker Tools, but those for 5 other skills)
  2. Furthermore, there are 3 wood-based BODs for ML weapons (Carpentry's Wild Staves, and Fletching's Shortbows and Longbows), where only the BASE version of the weapon's small can be colored wood (Wild Staff, Magical Shortbow, Elven Composite Longbow), and for the most part exceptional, but the items that require ML incredients to craft are limited to Normal Wood, Normal Quality. Worse, many of the LBODs are bugged to where they can be bribed exceptional or to colored wood - at which point they become UNCOMPLETEABLE.
  3. Woods bribe Yew->Heartwood->Bloodwood->Frostwood, though there was a bug where some things went Yew->Bloodwood->Heartwood->Frostwood, and often won't work right trying to use them in LBODs at the either color for BW & HW, so it's best to take them to Frostwood.
  4. Scribes give Inscription BODs, even though they at best sell pens and scrolls, but mage-based NPCs don't, despite selling nearly everything short of books made by or used by Inscription.
  5. Your best bet for cheap bribes is an NPC in a little-used area (such as Fel or Ilshenar). Iron Workers in Ilshenar are part of the BOD system, but the best ones to use for smith BODs are the ones at the randomly spawning/despawning camps that can appear at about 8-10 spots across the facet. The Iron Worker is only present at SOME of these, randomly (some can only have the healer and banker, others can have healer, banker, iron worker and a Vagabond (which buys/sells gems and tinker stuff)). The iron worker, besides bribes, is also a great source for cheap ingots, and the vagabond for buying/selling gems. One of them also sells wood.
a, Several on the road starting south of the Spider cave north of Spirituality (first spot between cave and the Inn) through the road's end south of the Healer Grove NE of Lakeshire/Mireg (last one is between town and grove) - 4 or 5 spots total.
    b. Another is amidst the Water Elemental Spawn by Justice
    c. Another south of the bridge to Mistas (near Honesty, across one bridge)
    d. Another in the clearing between roads on the road north from Honesty towards Honor and the Humility Spawn
    e. Yet another (one of the more reliable) in the clearing where the road ends coming down from the direction of Honor gate, east of the Humility spawn (also a good place for a rez if doing that spawn).
    f. One at the East exit of the Pass of Karnaugh north of Compassion.
    g. Another just west of the Daemon spawn between Compassion and Chaos.
    h. One or two spots between Compassion and the bridge to the desert.
    i. There are several other spots that don't seem to spawn anymore, but used to. One was just south of Humility in the swamp, another was on the road between Honor and the ford at Gwenno's Memorial, and there might have been others. The timing of their failures appear to coincide with changes to the gypsy/brigand code for Tram and Fel (where at first, the evil sacrifice random spawn went away around the beginning of AoS, then the ML escort quest changes, lastly at the changes that first ruined, then did away with the random tram/fel encounters all together out of concern over offending real-world gypsies)
  6. Bribes will usually try for Color improvement (if possible) first, then Quality (normal to exceptional, if possible), then quantity last. However, there is a small (about 10%) chance that you can get a quality or quantity bribe out of order, especially if doing the same BOD over and over. Some skills only have quantity chances (Inscription, Alchemy) for most of their smalls.
  7. Always bribe the highest BOD you intend to bribe first. Often, you can get a BOD bribe for only a couple thousand (if not Free!) that if done as the second or later BOD, would require 10,000-100,000 gold to bribe.

Oh, well, this was a cooking BOD, but thanks for the info, now I know what to look out for when I start working my other BOD crafts. :)

Depending on how long you've been collecting BODs, you have to be careful with some of them if they are older ones.

In the first few months after the BODs for the 6 other skills (besides Tailor and Smith) were added, a number of BODs (especially cooking and Carpentry LBODs) wouldn't upgrade to exceptional. This was fixed, but some of the pre-fix BODs weren't retroactively corrected.

On the other hand, there's some BODs that are just a pain in the tuchus to fill if exceptional. The Miso and Sushi Cooking BODs, for example, even with a maxed out Ex talisman and a max apron, have items that have an exceptional chance around 60%-70% (and if both are less than 30%, woe be unto you, as the items are about 10% Ex without tali or apron).

The same can happen for a number of Carpentry items (had to fill an Ex Carpentry LBOD that required 5 items that were 81% craft/53% ex with my talisman, and you could only make 10-13 at a time in a bag, then have to toss the normals, as they took 30 or 35 wood EACH to make).

Lastly, for cooking, beware the lowly Dough LBOD. There's a nasty trick to getting Exceptional Flour if you have to have it
  • You have to gather the wheat in the farm fields (and if you find 5-6 per field, you are lucky).
  • You have to be standing AT a mill, but USING A COOKING TOOL'S MENU choice for flour
  • Simply putting the wheat through the mill always results in normal flour. You have to use the cooking tool in your pack.
