Ok- this weekend I was listening to someone looking for a fight in an arena. I was training some rogue skills, and when he couldn't get s response to his challenge, wished I wasn't- it sounded like fun. A year ago I was playing and working ona pvp template, but never got to finish or even use them. I figured that while I was out training them, I'd get to try them out. I was never attacked even one time.

I remember fight night. I'd like to see it come back.

I'm proposing a new fight night. Now, I have a ton of questions and would appreciate any and all comments and suggestions.

First- where to have it?

Second- this is the big one in my mind- how to make it fun, fair, and encourage participation on all levels?

I'm thinking 3 divisions every fight night. A, B, and C. 70-100, c division. Skills 100-110, b. 110-120, c division.

No Artie's, only GM armor and weapons. 100 each reg- would this be fair?

How to lore a player to know his or her skill level? Snooping can insure no hidden items.

Every week could have a fight night, with a purse for each division of 20k gold. I will provide that. And every 6 months a playoff fight with the weekly winners, for a purse of 100k, and a legacy token.

Now, how to work this to keep encouraging Everybody, without punishing or discouraging Anybody? How to work it so that 1 individual doesn't win every fight, and we have only 1 winner? How to make it so that there are new weekly winners, to get most to participate as theyll know they have a chance, without discouraging those experienced and skilled players that will trounce us mere mortals? Maybe an additional "legendary" division? And how to decide who should be there?

I think there should also be a committee of at least 4 people to oversee and dispense awards. I will gladly foot this bill and work on getting this off the drawing board, but I am on 24 /7 call, and other people may have issue crop up as well, so it will take a dedicated team effort to make this happen like clockwork.

I hope this meets with a favorable ear, and lots of good suggestions. If it flies, maybe we could have Mage and dexxer divisions, or even pairs.

To encourage even absolute non-fighting templates, I even thought of a nightly raffle- tickets sold at the start, prizes at the end. After all, there are some really nice people here, and this would give everyone a chance to visit. And if you're a crafter, what a great time to advertise and promote your wares?

I'd like his to be fun and enjoyable for everyone no matter age or skill. Maybe even have battle chicken fights, ferret fights, pet against pet for the tamer crowd?

Apparantly I am still a reporter so would be happy to cover it if I am not working. Also as a member and emissary for the Renegade Amazons, let me or a savage amazon if there is anything we can do to help or....add flavor to the event.

First, where to have it? I suggest a neutral site of Haven Arena.

Second, how to make it fun, fair, and encourage participation on all levels? Invite to this EVENT all types of players, and classify the combat thus:
1. solo without pets or summonings, 2 solo with pets or summonings, and 3 mobs vs solo player.
a) melee weapons only, b) archery only, c) any selection of weapons, d) spellcasting no weapons, and e) any method of attacks.

Example: Mob of players with pitchforks vs mounted archery specialist ... 3ab type.

Equipment selection is subject to rules of looting. Make it clear to all who shows. Remember as an Event provider, this is Siege Perilous and looting is a choice of each player. You will not be able to stop some looters. Banning someone for looting is a failure on this Shard. By the way, stealing is also looting.

Sucess in play must be rewarded well, I suggest the rewards be Legendary artifacts collected from Shame. I am sure someone has a nice supply of these items ; *stares*, I wonder who? Me...I have a few...

Try allowing betting on outcomes of combat!

If there is Ultimate Winner, that is someone who won all the rounds, feed him/her to the VERY ANGRY MOB of the final event round.

You will need to keep very good records of the combat rounds. You must advertise each event. Choose the best time for this Event.

Your biggest problem will be Faction's players some which look upon SP having no NEUTRAL GROUND.

You need minimally a panel of Three Judges which determine if the fight is fair. These people may have to be your snoopiers.

Write up the rules of conduct and of the event in a Blue book and publish this widely.

I dont know. Im back after quite a while off. I used my debit card at an atm that was hacked, so got issued a new one. Try as i might, this was the time they were changing things, and i could not update my information. (I see Cheapsuit is going through aolmost the same thing right now). I tried e-mailing and calling UO, but, well, you know how their response rating goes. So Im back after quite a while, and am quite lost as to what is going on and where things are at.

I saw some excellent suggestions. betting is sure to attract a larger crowd. (if its allowed). I would think the individual against a mob would be fun, but would hesitate to insist anyone put themselves into that position unless they wanted to be.

It would definitely need a panel of judges and overseers- impartial I would hope.

I can boost awards and prizes until they are desireable for competition. And I will- I am committed to this. Theres an old saying- if you didnt vote- then dont complain. Well, Im voting. Im voting for UO, and for Siege in particular.

I do feel, personally, that there should somehow be divisions based upon skill level. A player on another shard could , if they chose, come here, train their skills to 70's in a few days, and compete- winning enough money and loot to further their training and skills. Why dont people PVP, in my personal opinion? Lack of skill, knowledge, the mystery and the desire to avoid humiliation. If we can have divisions based upon skill, people can be comfortable fighting their peers, but also will learn what works, what doesnt work, and how to fight different templates. The mystery will disappear and they wont be risking much- if necessary I will purchase their GM equipment myself, and their regs. And if they learn that they can hold their own with baseline equipment- how much more comfortable will they be when they have the equipment of their choosing?

I think it would be a great avenue for grudge matches, challenges, and old fashioned duels. Those might be extra interesting!

The more categories right now- the better- to find something to suit every individual and taste. If later, we find that one event or another doesnt get much interest from the crowd, it can be eliminated.

Still looking for suggestions, critisisms, caveats, prohibitions, improvements. I can see that this wont happen overnight- not if it is the thing I'd like to see. I'd like to see something so fun that people would miss watching their favorite TV show, just to attend. I'd like to see banner crowds. I'd even like to see it attract individuals that THINK they could compete with Sieges' finest- and maybe they could. I'd like it to be so cool that its copied on other shards.

Hey, I like your enthusiasm and would certainly like to help out anyway I can.

I would recommend starting simple. Use the arena and scoring system that is already present for your "tiers". Create a fun atmosphere and hype it up - people will come. As mentioned in that chat you are referring to, combatants leave with their gear/loot in tact, although there is a chance for ambush when they first exist the arena.

Jusr where is this arena? Id like to check it out. You may be right- start small amnd work up, or risk getting in over my head and drowning. You mean to say there is an arena that auto rezzes you, and where you cant be looted? that might encourage some people. I still think then if more peopoe get to "safely" try pvp, they might find it to their liking. Maybe start out weapons, magic, weapons/magic, and pet vs pet.
Does anyone know if betting, at least among ourselves (i dont want to run bookies lol- to much work) would be allowed?

And what days, and times, have proved best for people in the past for events and such?

maybe make "divisions" based on armor cost
< 150k
150k - 500k
> 500k

Also, i believe the arenas can actually be set to restrict items that you can use during the match.

I won't fight any tamers/summons in that tiny little arena though, it's one thing actually out in the open but there's no LOS blocking or cover to catch them on in there, someone brings in a GD they basicly win every match

If using only gm armor, certain problems needs to be adressed.

- certain summons and pets can be very devastating then, probably best to not allow them at all
- mystics or necro mages against gm armor ?
- how to limit pots and other consumables
- gm made gargoyle armor has 316 resistpoints vs 306 for humans, but not a really big deal

But the main problem will be that running gm made equipment leads to very different skill and stat distributions, especially for dexxers running very low int, not everyone wants to modify stats and keep additional soulstones for that purpose.
Me thinks that kind of fights can only be done for fun and giggles ,without prices or rankings. Current uo skills are balanced for people wearing good equipment, not for gm armor.

For the fights using real armor, a possible solution would be to not allow artifacts and divide classes based on imbuing intensities used per equipment piece.
I think the ec + pinco's ui can be used to see imbuing intensity on equipment. So there is a way to check this before the fights.
With, lets say 200 imbuing points allowed per armor piece, jewelry and weapon every template could work somewhat and there is still not much to lose if armor gets looted.

You can adjust the slots allowed so tamers and summons could be and not allowed its the person setting up the battle decides that and the person accepting sees rules before they join in on a battle

Righty showed me the Arena at Khaldun and then I preceded to get my hat handed to me, but it was awesome. Siege has an absolutely awesome venue for fighting, that's controlled against looting etc....I'm up for anything this shard has in mind. Most if not all of you guys have been awesome to me and the other NEWbs lately, so if you need participants, count me in, and thanks.

Please don't remove this thing. It just needs more advertisement.
Well, maybe I'be been approaching this thing wrong. I mean, i remember fights using 100 regs and gm armor- but where are they? And i see, reading the forums, that some templates are actually built around a certain weapon. Maybe I'm over-thinking this thing. I can remember reading posts about formulas and ratios and thinking, "i dont want to go that route. The game should be fun- not science."
Ok, this is what I'm now thinking........

the arenas sound great. Auto rez, and if the rules are revealed before you fight, then you know exactly what you are getting into. Just come as you are- whatever armor, weapons, regs, you want. Since the arena is small, no summons or pets unless agreed upon by the other party. If someone DOES use illegal summons or pets- then the crowd is invited to shred them lol.

Im still trying to include players that are new or untrained though. I wonder- just how bold are Siege fighters? If any player comes in wearing a title suggesting low skills, or a "New" guild tag, I'll fight them with GM armor or weps, or even naked. Its all for fun after all. They will learn, I will learn, and all win have fun. I wonder if any other players would fight a new character without an edge?

I'm still thinking it would be great to have varying champions, with prizes, that ends up in a 6 month fight-off with a serious prize and reward. I'm also thinking that the day and time of fight-night remix should vary, so that people working different shifts or in different time zones wont get completely negated.

New thoughts?

ok this is what im trying to say there isnt the ablitly summon creatures if the slot counter is set to 0 its just not possible
if the rules are set to not allow pots you do not have the ability to use its that simple you can have them on you but the game will not allow use
get what im saying

nope its there
oK my mistake. I thought I read some patch notes somewhere that it had been removed. Maybe it was another shard? Anyway, I'd love to see this thing getting used.

Set up a night and let's have some fun. The one in Occlo is next to the docks, it migh be easier for newer people to get to without getting pk'd on the way there
