Ughh!
These cats ignore me all morning napping their lives away and the minute I sit down at the computer to play a little Ultima I got one cutting off the circulation in my legs and the other trying to sit on the keyboard!
If it just happened every now and then 'd blow it off to coincidence but they know the sound of Ultima starting and come every time now.

It's a conspiracy I tell you..

Love your post, and I hate to be "that guy" but you misspelled spouse in your title. I'm pretty sure it isn't spelled f e l i n e because that means cats and Cats are God like creatures who do no wrong.

I can relate. I have a fat furry orange cat that likes nothing better than plopping down (to paralyze my hand and immobilize my mouse) as soon as I log in. While I'm prying his fat fanny off my hand, the little black cat sits down on the warm router to watch the fun.

I used to have an Ottoman under my desk ..... and whenever I'd try to play my cat would lay on the ottoman and then attack my fingers from the backside of my keyboard tray.... And he'd start hitting F buttons while doing it....... and sadly the keyboard had a computer shutdown key on it up there...

Imagine being in the middle of a spawn and having your pc shut off!

I was like ACK!!!!!!!!!

Long ago I had a few cats each knew when I was on the Comp playing UO. My habit was turn on icq..then the game. The sound of the Ut-oo of icq would ring and my cats would come in and sit around me. (i had a short table that let me sit on the floor to play.. japaneese style) Hurcules my big Siamese decided that one day he got out the sliding glass door on the patio and too to the roof of the complex... he didnt come to my kids yelling for him to come down... tht was till I told them open the door and wait for him as I turned on my lappy and loaded up icq and uo.. the sounds of it were like cat nip to him...poof in meer seconds he was inthe house and settling down next to my legs on the floor... The power of the computer to be With you, hehe

My cat Mingle was a outside cat never jumped on the inside furniture tables or counters. morning went out came back at nite curled up in his bed right by the doorwall. i wouldn't of had him as a pet if I didn't find him living in our garage. 4 month old feral cat was told will never be able to tame it to wild. I was told that on a friday monday came along person pulls up cat is sleeping on my lap. food was not won this cat over what won him over was things tied to a rope.

My dog Sophie thinks she is a cat climbs on on everything. fav spot is the window ledge behind the couch in the family room or my head when i'm laying on the couch sits and watches the squirrels. She also knows when to bother me if I log in to uo scratches my legs.

It IS a cat conspiracy, I tell you! The calico in my profile picture, note her intellectual library behind her, likes to jump her 30 pound self onto the back of my desk chair nearly throwing us both backward to the ground. Apparently she likes to watch.

My 1 year old Maine Coon Kitten pulled that reaching behind the keyboard drawer and messing with my keyboard or sitting on the wires under the desk so that I couldn't move my wired mouse. Yeah I tried the wireless mice, but I hate being in the middle of a spawn or pvping and have the batteries die. Fuhgedaboudit!

If I dare to try to flip back my hair, while in my desk chair, to create a pony tail good old Blaeke (the Maine Coon Kitten) flies onto the back of the chair (having learned from her big sister Mia Feral) and tears and grabs at my hair as if she has discovered "Cousin It" is at my desk.

I love my babies, though... even if they're out to destroy my UO gameplay.

Great post Ludes! (I wish there was an emoticon for being in a straight jacket...)

Here are my bad girls:

This is my two when I am not playing UO. (The one on the left loves to sleep with his head on my hand when I am holding the mouse using the computer).

This is when I've ignored them too long while playing UO.

And this is a friend's pet watching her play UO. She doesn't look happy does she?

Blaeke Journeyman The one on the right reminds me of my son's cat Marge... She likes to sit on the back of my chair sometimes and watch me play UO.

Andrasta Goodman's Rune Library Your kitties remind me of my Darathy... I miss him so much. So much that I just can't bring myself to have another cat... He was the smartest cat I've ever known. I miss him so much. Give them a hug for me. Darathy was a beautiful black cat.... that I never really wanted and didn't intend to be his slave but... The gal at the pound convinced me ... (Bribed me) into taking him when I agreed to be the human servant of Obi Wan (Obe's)... Darth Maul was an add-on.... because they were brothers. I couldn't separate them! So I agreed that I'd take Darth even though I swore I was NEVER going to own another black cat I wanted something different this time..... Obe's was your Nermal type cat.. gorgeous gray with the beautiful swirl on the side.. He was to be "MY" cat... and Darth..... the kids could have. Well day one wouldn't you know it Obe's wouldn't have anything to do with me. He loved the kids. They played he played. Darth was more "mellow" he liked to just sit by me. So he adopted me.

I didn't realize his intelligence until later... One day I was getting ready for work and needed my daughter to get up and like always Darathy was right there at my feet... So I looked down at him and said, "Darth..... go get Amber up." And to my surprise he ran off down the hall and into her room and soon enough I heard, "Darth!!! Get off me! Mom!!! Darth get out of my room!" I was surprised and I thought ..... nah..... just a fluke... he didn't really just go do what I said. But sure enough each morning I'd ask him to wake her and off he'd go... if her door was shut he'd just stand outside it and holler at her and hit her door till she got mad and opened the door to yell at him. He was amazing... After that I taught him to shake hands, sit up, give a high five, and if I snapped my fingers and pointed somewhere like the chair, back of the couch or counter he would come running and jump right up where I told him to and sit. He learned to say "Out, NO, Help and Mom." Giving him a bath was a real treat as he'd scream "Help! No!!!! OUT!" until it was over... He would give kisses on command as well... and he loved to give you a "hug".... and headbutt....

It took a while but I finally figured out just how smart he really was, he loved attention... and he hated that Obe's always got it because he was just such a pretty kitty... so he also knew he was boring black cat... and no matter how "cute" he tried to look everyone always "Oooh'd and Ahhh'd over Obi... So he learned to do tricks. Doing tricks got him 10 times the attention Obi got. So he was great at it. However... Knowing how smart he was if you gave him the attention without him doing a trick.... you would never get a trick out of him. He was so smart he knew you'd pet him anyway so he didn't need to do tricks for you. So I always warned folk not to pet him first.

Sadly when he was about 10 or so he got sick... and passed away. But true to his nature he didn't want me to know so.... he just went outside and passed away quietly and alone by my bedroom window.

I just don't think I could ever have a better cat friend ever again.

LOL... I'm going to send that to my youngest daughter. She is crazy about cats. I'm also going to send it to my son... he absolutely hates cats!

@MalagAste , that was truly the most touching story I've ever seen on stratics, ever. Darathy was definitely one of a kind, I'm glad he was able to live his life happily with a friend as great as you. Hopefully he continues to live happily, wherever he is. *wipes away tears*

Aww Mal! What a BEAUTIFUL story about Darathy (Darth) you made me weep. :sad2: I have never heard of such a cool cat. Thank you for posting his picture.

You should have another, it may be your training or your aura that brings out the best in a smart cat. Try a tuxedo cat or a calico, they seem to be really smart ones too.

As George Carlin said, admitting to having pets always, when you acquire a pet what you are getting is a little tragedy to come. But I'm sure he'd have agreed that said tragedy is well worth the experience of the love and friendship that pet brings to your life/world.

Haha, it's a control thing plus a kitty can't resist a warm spot.

What a beautiful jester type kitty cat! Love the name!

Here's Mrs. Speckleworth staking her claim on my computer chair.

That mustache is brilliant! Gotta love a female feline with a nice 'stache!

Kali is often not amused with my human shenanigans, and that includes Ultima Online. :p

And yes, her moustache is the fanciest thing ever.

Sounds like my JR...
He was born in my car with his sister... His mom was feral but would let me pet and feed her... His dad was my mother in laws cat Cheata.
He would sit for hours talking to my father in law who was suffering from emphazima and more sedentary then he liked to be. He was very attentive to all we talked of.... had to be carefull too of that as he took everything to heart.

I was talking to husband about Rosie my pet squirrl I had raised and released in the local park... I had told him how I missed her.
Never did I realize he was paying attention... Next day he walked in and had in his mouth a living small squirrl who was looking very indignant. He wanted to hand it to me.... hubby was fast and grabbed his welding gloves and took the still but angry cussing animal. I had to explain how this was a very generous gift but that it was not the same and it had a mommy waiting for it. and Thank you for it. With a pat on his hard he followed my hubby to the giant redwood trees we had in the front yard and he let it go up high makig sure not to get nipped. hehe

Next time I was commenting to my in laws how I wanted to put up a small aviary in the back for a few parakeets, and love birds... I missed my birds we had in new orleans.. oi vey... me and my big mouth in his ear shot! In under an hour he brought me a tiny finch like wild bird.
Pawing my hand he placed it and held it down till i had a good grip.. the poor thing was still but alive, not one feather out of place. I checked he was unhurt and it looked at me then the cat and lay there in my hand stunned he was captured I think. I again explained this was someoene's baby and he had to go home. I would show him what mommy was getting and he was pleased as I let it go. That bird sat in my hand for a good 2 minutes not realizing it was free, I had to nudge it to fly away.

Nextdoor that spring got a tiny little kitten that kept comeing over and tryingto get JR's attention... My son had just inherited our across the street cat named of all things Enertia... he was Mouse... he squeeked not meowed. So he was mouse..... JR took both under his wing and taught them how to behave. Talk abotu a task master... Mouse or the kitten made the wrong move JR would place a paw on their head and hold them for a second and give them a look. A drill sargent look if I have ever saw one.. and I have seen many ...

They learned to knock on the door, Call out Hello when they came in the house, Sit and not jump up for their food. JR had table maners, He waited till all were served before eating. Mouse played chess with my son... well he kept loosing chess to my son hehe.. or play army men..on the rug in the den. JR too did what he was asked. I needed my hubby for a conversation with his parents and asked JR to go ask him to come down... I was not expecting him to go... I was in the process of getitng up from the floor when my hubby came and said did you send JR to fetch me? Yes... well he kept saying "Mom now ... MOM NOW!" hehe

He lived a good life.. had troubles and pain when a new neighbor's pit bull decided to use him as a rag doll.... poor JR was sound asleep on mom's velvet chair in the patio... My father in law let out a war hoop and took a bat to the dog to let his best friend go. took 12 stiches after my hubby nearly strangled the dog to let him go... JR had a ripped throat, hole in his skull from the dogs k 9 tooth. Dog was not hurt. But his owner wished he was.... he had a heafty bill from the vet.

JR was 12 when a new kitten to the area came to visit........
The kitten died 2 weeks after he visited my home... it had feline lukemia.
This kills little ones and the old rather quickly. My baby was a 35 pound's and in under 5 weeks went to 10 pounds he knew he was going...

He went to each of us in the house to say his good byes.... dad had a good talk, mom had a big kiss s on her nose, my son was snuggled and Mouse told to stay with him. To my hubby he nudged and loved on and talked for a few then looked at me and went to the car on his own.

The vet's office knew my baby well, he was a regular for visits and healthy pet care. They were sad to see him go... he was a person not a cat...

It took a year after Mouse passed for me to even think of a new guy to fill my life....
It came one day with big Pumpkin Orange eyes and long silky Black fur....
A pure bred a breeder threw out at the pound. A wopping 8 dollars and 55 cents worth of love and companionship that lasted another 16 years and was every bit as brilliant as my JR...
I dont own a cat right now... but I am thinking I need a UO buddy.... of the fur variaty.

Yeah Storm ...... I sure do miss Darth.... His brother Obi was a squeaker... He couldn't meow either..... he just did this most pathetic..... almost silent chirping squeak. Darth however never shut up.... He told you everything. Not too many understood cat.... but I did for the most part. Was nice he knew some "human" too.

And thanks Captn and Blaeke for the kind words.

Now when I need a "kitty fix" I let Marge into my room for awhile. But she's just not the same. She's a "Cat cat".... you know... she does what she does and she will NOT do what you'd like for her to do, unless she wanted to do it.

She does talk alot though. Everyone should experience the love of a cat.

Some silly "experts" think cat's don't "love" like Dogs do... but they never knew my Darathy. The experts say Cats get "stressed" when you pet them... this is also a LIE. If that were the case then cats wouldn't insist on being petted. Which they do just like dogs do... they will nudge your hand and try to get you to pet them. There is a cat in a Nursing home near here who knows when a resident is going to die. He'll come spend time with them in their last hours...

You mean you haven't heard about the Magical Feline Control Panel whilst online playing??

  • Take a shoe box...or even just a shoe box top/lid.
  • Build a platform of books that is higher than your keyboard and near where you play
  • When the feline needs your attention whilst you are playing...
  • Place the Feline Control Panel (box or lid) near you on a the surface which you built
  • Watch in amazement as your Feline is content to settle on the Control Panel and watch you game
  • Feline will eventually fall asleep to your keyboard clicking and shouts in your headset.

TQQdles™

P.S. For more than one Feline, a larger platform is needed and two box lids only to be placed...otherwise if the Felines are in separate boxes, they will begin to play/pester each other and you will loose Control! -)
