No you cant have my stuff... YET...

I gives me great sadness that I must let my friends go , this game has brought me great fun , laughter , sadness ( for those who left us in many different ways)..It bothers me to no end that we have such a great community and great possibilities yet EA makes ALOT of money off our game and yet it's ok to wait years to get things fixed , new expansions or get solid responses , not the $1 canned responses.

Having said that I truly think there is life left in UO , IF EA Mythic sinks some serious resources into it , ( they would be stupid not to , build on a existing game rather than build a new one) , but as of tonight that life for me is all but gone , I wil watch and see what EA Mythic will do and may comeback , maybe even bring some more friends. My post on the thread noted below sums up UO very well.... http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/167963

To all I have battled , agreed , never talked to , ect....Good bye and Good Luck....

Draconi and Leurocian ( and teams) your passion is what made UO fun , don't let anyone change that for you...

Thank you all for nice replies , I have decided to even cut ALL ties with EA games , sold all my games related to them , cancelled my Warhammer pre order ( holding on to UO for that small glimmer of hope EA mythic will give UO A huge shot in the arm of marketing and fixes..)

Sorry But I lost all hope in EA..Not the players and Community..

Now just gotta tell kids they cvant play Sims or Madden..

See devs, your ineptitude and neglect to fix hacks/bugs etc breeds resentment to the point that your players get so disenchanted, they will refuse to even touch any game affiliated with you. Also, im sure those players will also, by word of mouth, tell potential customers how horrible their gaming experience was with you all. Good luck selling Warhammer Online with those type of credentials.

Oh well, its not like you and your company dont deserve it.

I hope you're joking. So the kids suffer because of your personal views?... I really hope you are joking.

Way to completely generalise the whole situation as well. Do you realise that the teams behind The Sims, Command and Conquer, Warhammer and Ultima Online are completely different don't you? You do realise that these days EA now has a very hands-off approach to design and development. The "EA sucks" argument is extremely out-dated now. If you have issues it's with specific design teams.

Nope - The OP is perfectly right.
Its EA´s fault and alone responsibilty that UO (and other games..) are in the state they are now.
Handsoff approach?? They give the budget....
Its easy to give a too small team handsoff approach and then give that team the fault...

No it's not. Ultima is run by EA Mythic. They have several times, a live team for DAoC, the team that is working on Warhammer and the live team for UO. To not play The Sims (Maxis, completely unrelated to UO development) is like refusing to buy a Pontiac because you think Holden makes crap cars.

EA has nothing todo with it. Sure EA's marketing and leadership caused problems with cancellations of Ultima Online 2, previous hiccups with the teams (2001 rings bells) but now they take a hands-off approach.

At the request of the development team. They don't just walk up to developers and hand out money without reason. A team presents an idea and EA endorses it, not vice versa.

That's not a hands-off approach then is it? A hands-off approach is allowing the developers creative freedom. Providing the resources as requested without any influence in content.

Ultima Online itself was originally created with a hands-on approach. EA was dictating development between Ultima Online and Ultima IX: Ascension. One project barely made it (and even used funs out of the developer's pockets) the other received so little attention (as requested by EA managment) that it brought a very rough end to a fantastic series.

Guess what, that kind of development doesn't exist anymore. If it did, do you honestly believe Warhammer Online would be delayed by so many years? No of course not. It'd have been rushed out like Ultima 8 and 9 were.

*plays world's smallest violin*

The game has been going this direction for years. And the fun "classic" UO has been dead for a long time. A lot of us quit, but making a big scene about it is unprecedented, especially when you aren't cancelling your account, and you're rehashing an issue declared dead by Jeremy.

I noticed a lot of people posting their idea of the facts with no sources sited. "EA did this..." "EA is doing that..."

How about, "EA is not putting together a classic shard, as Jeremy has stated that reverting the code that many years is an impossibility."

Now EA isn't stupid. The game didn't swing the direction it did on a whim. EA saw the competition and implimented characteristics of other games in order to compete, while diversifying with their 2d (as essesentially 2.5d graphics in KR) to gain a consumer advantage. Obviously this didn't work too well.
So where is UO?
UO is a game with &lt;100,000 subscriptions (and from what I've read lately, may have dipped below 75,000), and the ultimate competition is WOW with &gt;10,000,000 subscriptions. So how does a company compete with an outdated game system on every level (graphically, bugs/exploits, server quality, etc...)? It redistributes its resources and workforce on something new (Warhammer).

Bottom line: EA don't care. And still loves you just as much for paying for your subscription, while posting your "I quit" thread on stratics.

Its all just excuse after excuse , why or game is not better than it deserves , we pay for it and LOOK for certain things , When was last expansion , Vet rewards , Full blown PVP fixes not band aids , Thief class fixes , I dont want to turn this into a flame fest ,its not meant for this , it was a trur GOODBYE , accounts will be closed in 2 days , cancelling all EA stuff because the destroyed our game , EA Mythic own us now but have they really done anything HUGE yet?

As for classic or old style : I dont ask for that here , Though I dont understand why they cant make a shard with no doom , champ spawns or BODS

Funny, because plenty of free shards have done it.

Your original post referenced a classic shard in the link you posted. And as Jeremy stated, the developers will not spend their time reverting the code.

There are no excuses, that's bottom line. EA will not allocate a lot of resources to a game that is outdated in every respect. They tried that with KR and it was a colossal failure. Such that money, key developers, and time is all being driven towards bigger projects such as Warhammer.

You can LOOK for things as much as you want, it isn't coming. What is coming? A flood of artifacts and new fancy in-game stuff to keep the already hooked customers from cancelling their accounts. Because lets face it, there is NO appeal to any new gamers.

Your goodbye and frustrations appeal to your friends alone, but you've already stated that you'll keep pumping money into the EA small Ultima account:
<blockquote><hr>

( holding on to UO for that small glimmer of hope EA mythic will give UO A huge shot in the arm of marketing and fixes..)

[/ QUOTE ]

And that's what Ultima is, an extra account that brings in a little bit of cash.
But every good business reinvests their money where it matters, and for EA that is future projects. There is not going to be an SA expansion, investing in a new box set with game system that was a huge failure in the first place is not logical.

Good luck. I'm departing with you...though I have a dimmer view of UO's future. MMORPG's are flooding the market, and they've taken way too long to do anything worthwhile in this game. It's going to stick around for people who cling to it, but there will never be a UO like there once was.

The UO community is great, but times are changing and even it is decaying. So many fine citizens of the past sit on the sidelines wishing for something to happen, and so many more play on those things we don't speak of and won't acknowledge the EA game exists until something drastic happens. Something drastic that will never happen.

I think the time EA had to recover all of those players is past now. The game is over, the show is done. The people some play with will keep them around for a while, but the numbers will get ever smaller.

Free shards were created years ago when the code was less hashed than it is today. The code wasn't reverted then, but as of today the code needs to be reverted to a more "primal" state.
And as Jeremy said, they aren't doing it. There's no reason to argue. The game is bugs and exploits gallore. And if fixing that stuff isn't work enough, they also need to release new material (artifacts, scenarios etc..) to keep their consumer captive. There's no business in employing developers to "undo" all the previous years patches to try and attract old players to come back to UO. It's more likely that they will hash the code even more, flood the servers with new items, invent new skills, or something else brand new (see the trend) in order to attract old players with their new material, while in the same effort appealing to a newer game generation.

At any rate, I'm going for food. No hard feelings to anyone, but I feel everyone doesn't seem to know where the game actually is in its lifetime. You're all "living in the past."

I've played 9 years, why do I continue to keep an account open? NO real clue. Sosaria is a horribly boring place for more reasons than I wish to list and most friends that I enjoyed having great times with have long since left the UO we once knew.

Keep an eye on this game and hope it comes out is all I can say.
