Fanning the Flames

Aedon Durreah

Village of Aegis
Stratics Veteran
Stratics Legend
I was lucky that the damage done to the Rest was minimal; things could have gone a lot worse.

Sifting through the charred remains of some of the furnishings at the Knights Rest Aedon could not help but consider himself lucky that the building were as soundly built as it was. The stone work on the bottom level, which housed the tavern took small damage, mostly a bit of scorching to the stone. Inside there were chairs, stools, the end of the bar and wall tapestries lost, but those could be easily replaced. What bothered him most was the loss of a few of the trees out front.

He could not for the life of him understand why Malekai had decided to set the Tavern on fire. It was not as though the two of them had exchanged any harsh words. He had in fact served Mal a drink, and then returned to the table he was sitting at.

Malekai was sitting at a table with one of the D’Amavirs, and the two of them did seem to be a bit at odds. The one even referring to Mal as little more than a minion to the one he served. As Malekai stood and walked towards the door Aedon wished him a pleasant night. Stopping for a moment he asked;

“What did you say Aedon?”

To which he had replied; “I wished you a pleasant night."

Malekai did not respond, not a word spoken,nor sneer at all. He simply walked outside, and set the building aflame. Aedon’s first thought was to run outside and asked what the hell he was doing that for, but as he watched him through the window it seemed to Aedon that the anger running though Mal was far too great at the time, and confronting him would be a mistake.

Instead, he directed those within the Tavern to take the passage way in the corner. James let the way, and they were soon safely in Connemara. The spoke for a bit, and then Aedon went back through the passage way to see if things were clear. Malekai was gone. Llyrwech poked his head inside to let his brother know that the fire was out completely and that repairs on the Rest would begin tomorrow. Going back through the passage way, he told the others it was now safe to return, but to take care when moving among the charred remains of the furnishings.

Something had caused Malekai to carry out the attack on the Rest, and if it were the last thing he did, Aedon vowed he would find out why. There had been little trouble with members of the Hand for weeks now, but he did recall Fate telling the D’Amavir that he was busy painting the new tavern. Perhaps the Hand was planning to open their own tavern. With luck they would include a bath house. Whatever they may be doing, even if it were at the direction of Yews Governor, the arson at the Rest was an unprovoked crime, and he would see to it that someone would pay for the act.
