With the new faction items causing such a ruckus for people who want to PvP without being in a faction.

What if faction members could only attack faction members sort of like a separation of faction players from other players within fel. This would make the new faction items viable and usable within the faction system without destroying the integrity of PvP for the rest of us.

Seriously forcing everyone who PvPs to join a faction is one of the worst ideas I have seen in a long long time.

Almost everyone used to be in factions when they first came out and it was lot better than the current Yew Gate age of PvP. So I disagree with you about it being the worst idea ever. The integrity of PvP, whatever that might be, was lost a long time ago and it cannot get any worse.

Actually, I take that back. It can get worse. By implementing a system where you cannot attack anyone you want in Felucca. That would indeed compromise whatever shred of integrity still left in PvP and Felucca. So, I find what you suggest to be the worst possible idea I have heard in a long time.

Half of the PvPers I meet nowadays don't even know their way around T2A - all they do is hang around the gate and shoot arrows at each other. If that is not decadent then I don't know what is. Anything to change up things is better at this point.

The idea has its merits, especially since the PvP population is decaying constantly since a long time. The original faction design gave factionners advantages too (blessed items and war horses) and it was a success.

I know its been some time since ive played factions but isnt going red get ya kicked out of factions or has that been changed?

If that is the case i dont see the problem. I mean so long as their killing reds and orange only and reds cant get the items this would be an anti greifing pub!

I certainly think pub 56 will mess up the game for all non faction folks. I don't see how they can seperated faction and non-faction PvP tho.

I see 56 as just another way to drive some from UO. Guess time will tell. I sure hope EA realizes how many are a hair away from breaking their UO adiction.

Keep them separated.

The whole PvP system as a part of the general combat system in UO is a ruin anyway. Save what you can! :grouphug:

How can I vote, do not make them separate but this publish is still great? I think I gotta go for I don't rats ass then.

It's like I made a poll, are dexers overpowered compared to mages?

Options:

Yes! Nerf dexers!

Yes! Boost mages!

Everyone has the ability to join a faction, the factions and items are not limited to one select group. They've given us something with alil challange now having to achieve ranks within a faction to have these items which are still limited as how many you can have depending on rank and are able to wear down and break eventually.

What exactly do you call PvP? is it sitting at a gate hiding in houses? is it running a champ spawn with 50 people so you can defend against 5?

Having something to fight for and something to defend with rewards and penalties sounds more like PvP to me.

Are you upset that this gives faction players an advantage when you as a non faction player interfere with a battle over sigils?

Man ... this is SO true.
There used to be so much different places for PvP than Yew Gate anyway ...

I'm gonna have to vote separate, though I'd like to see it take a bit further. I've got reasons and of course I not expecting people to accept or understand them.

PvP has gotten so dependent on items that the introduction of these new faction arties will have a strong effect. I've seen people say they won't, and true some of them won't but a handful and will have a major factor. Some artifacts are considered key pieces in a PvP suit, now with the faction artifacts these pieces will be easily available which is good, but only to factions, not only that but they will have bonus resists and mods that will make them simply the most useful artifacts in the game. Non-Faction players won't have access to them, not every one goes to Fel wanting to PvP this is FACT. Not everyone that wants to join factions this is FACT, restricting the best PvP equipment in the game to factions imbalances PvP on the whole and stacks the odd even farther against the Trammies that are just trying to sneak a spawn in when a raid occurs.

My view on this, Unless this system of Faction Only changes or modified to only have the bonus' have effect in side of Faction Strongholds (call it Home Field Advantage or Visitors Rallying or what ever), then I say either Factions be restricted from attacking Non-Faction players and vice versa or all PvP and Stealing in Fel have Faction membership made a requirement, and the PvPer's can kiss their control of spawns bub-bye.

I've said it before I don't think the PvP and Non-PvP communities can really have a peace, setting up Factions to have an advantage over both groups is just tossing a 3rd group into the pot. There NEEDS to be a definitive separation between all three of these groups that is a little more solid than a moongate, or the devs are just setting themselves up for more work on balancing, and setting the players up for, who knows how much longer, the constant bickering and flaming on these forums and others.

Quite possibly the best explanation of "pvpers" (aka yew gate garbage) that are against the faction update.

Your not FORCED to be in a faction to pvp, which is a FACT. (your at a slight disadvantage without the faction items, but then again you don't get 20 min stat loss if you die.... that's more than enough to counteract the benefit of the items imo... Why are you so set against factions Doomdsday? The only downsides that I can think of if your a pvper to being in factions are..

-statloss
-Can't hide in Guardzones on blues

Other than that Factions don't differ.... so perhaps I DO understand your point of view if your a Guardzone hiding blue who tends to get put into STATLOSS all the time.....

No but they can still house hide, or if blue hop across the gate to Trammel and banksit and wait it out. No big loss there.

That's OK except you don't risk skill-loss if its not a faction v faction fight. So a faction player has the advantage and the disadvantage you mentioned doesn't exist.

If faction players are a getting huge buff from these items then they should risk skill-loss no matter who they are fighting.

I really don't know why people are looking at people in factions being SO MUCH MORE OP than those not. There are hard caps on mods. Someone in factions can't have more spell damage than someone not, nor can they have more lmc than someone not.

All these complaints are just people that don't pvp, or aren't good enough to acquire a high enough rank to use these new items. They want EA to just hand over the new items to everyone so that they can have more eye candy.

PvMers can get an Orny from Doom, PvPers can get an Orny from Factions.

The 3 mana regen bonus on the faction item allows the Factioner to possibly have a slight edge in pvp vs a non factioner because of the risk vs reward...

... A non factioner isn't risking 20 minutes of downtime after a death to another factioner, nor do they have to acquire a certain amount of kills or sigil steals and stay at that ranking to use the item.

What do non-factioners risk to be able to use the Orny, Ir Gloves, Folded Steel Glasses now? ... if you die you lose a few hundred gp per item for insurance ... Oh wait, factioners do too

... so in reality you don't have anything to risk and you still wear rewards.

Factioners risk time and the chance to not be able to use these items and the insurance gold like everyone else ... their rewards should be slightly better, and they aren't even that much better.

On a side note to finish things off ...

*The only person attacking a factioner is another factioner, unless you are in an area with reds, greys, or guild wars. Guilds should know who is factions or not, and they can avoid fighting those in factions if they choose to avoid the item curve.

*Greys can chose not to go grey where they could be attacked by a factioner.

*Reds chose to be red so they could be freely attacked.

Where is the imbalance? Looks to me like majority of the factioners will be fighting other factioners who have the ability to acquire the same items, or people who are looking to be attacked/to fight anyone ... regardless of items.

FOX.. the 2 reasons I listed were all I could come up for NOT wanting to be in factions yet still wanting to PvP..... The only people who are feeling at a disadvantage with the new faction items are

"PVP'ers" (and for this group I use that term losely)
-- that are BLUE and will no longer be able to hide in Guard zone.
-- OR those that already die so often that they don't want the 20 min statloss attached

If neither of those applies to you then why would you not join Factions and get the UBER items?? It's called Risk Vs. Reward..... IF a good group gets into factions and gets all the high end faction items and starts to dominate I bet it's not too long before other's get tired of this and also join factions so that they can get the high end items themselves.... If you don't like dieing to some UBER faction item'ed out player then join factions and even the score.. step up or step aside.

Who are you talking about? not I because I hate gate trash pvpers and I play a nox fencer exclusively.

Aside form that.

This change is not good because you are forced into being in a faction if you want to compete on the same level as everyone else and this is because of the equipment. Oh sure we have hardcaps to limit things but how many caps can you reach that I cannot? If your equipment contains more mods than mine you can hit more of those caps easier than I can.

And don't misunderstand me either. There are some good things about this also. Forcing people out of guard zones and making them fight for once would be great. But this whole system is to flawed and does not really help as much as it hurts.

Well, if people don't like it so much, people will stop being in factions and factions will be left with so few people that only one will dominate. If only one dominates where is your opposition to climb the rank?
