This was what I had planned for my faction thief;

Stealing 120
Hiding 100
Stealth 100
Necro 100
Spirit Speak 100
Ninjitsu 100

And I wasn't sure if I should go with either 100 Meditation, or Focus??

Any ideas?

I had magery, and eval on this char, but stoned them to add necro and spirit.

If you really are thinking about stealing sigs only...don't waste the skill points in stealing. All you need is 80 points to steal the sigs...la

I already have the points, and don't really feel like losing them. I guess I could stone and work up to just 80.

What else would you do here Rico?

I really like the ninjitsu, because I can switch to one of the high end animal forms and move really fast while stealthed.

With the necro I can go to wraith form and pass through players undetected.

Do I really need to have spirit speak? I would much rather drop that and add detect hidden to avoid traps.

I have a ton of skills stoned, so each pretty easy for me to just switch things around.

Ideas??

Each of those skills would be useful, but you don't have any defenses. I'd say dump the necro and spirit speak, perhaps lower your stealing to 80. Pick up something for defenses... parry, melee (fencing or wrestling), even bush. You'll need these to survive more then 3 seconds against archers.

85-GM stealth can work, but 120 will increase your survivability in a faction base. You'll be able to stealth while DP'ed (fields or traps) and not be revealed. EQ's will be less likely to reveal, and humans with 20 tracking wont be able to pick you up too easily.

Try to fit enough magery on there to dispel fields with scrolls. This will save your ass.

I'm trying to work my stealth up to the 120. Any suggestions for that?

I wasn't so worried about defense, because I was focusing completely on being hidden and stealthing.

The other night a ton of CoM showed up and wiped out most of the SL in the base. The only person that got out with a sigil was using wraith form. If she hadn't had necro she would have been dead too. So I'm leery about dropping that.

I guess the big thing is how you intend to play this character. Personally, I have always sucked at PvP so I tend to stay away from thug type templates. Maybe throw on the skills needed to be a trap placer and disarmer? Get some silver that way. It's fun to watch the other factions blow up when they hit one of your explosive traps...la

It's all how you intend to play him. But if you end up in the middle of a sigil room, with 10-20 people all gunning for you, you're going to need to tough it out a bit. Pure sneak tactics wont cut it if you have 4 mages, a GM tracker/detector, a tamer or two, and a team of archers on you in a very small area.

For training stealth...just use the stratics stealth guide as a basic outline, and modify it a bit. Swap out armor pieces, and see what you get the best gain rate with. Hide, walk until fail, repeat. It sucks, but in a few years you'll get there... :/

The wraith form can be very useful, if they don't have people that will notice you take a sig. Most often this is not the case. In SL base it would be practically impossible. If you start getting earth quaked, meteor swarmed, or tracked while in wraith form, you probably wont make it out alive if you don't get into a mount speed animal form or on an actual mount. Especially if you have no defense against arrows and blades.

The necro has its place on a thief, but you risk very valuable skill points for a bit of added sneakiness.

Ok here is what I have come up with so far. i have really been putting a ton of thought into this.

120 Stealing
120 Stealth
120 Resist
100 Hiding
100 Ninjitsu
85 Necromancy
75 Spirit Speak

Add a Bloodwood Spirit to boost my Necro +5 and Spirit +10.

With the high stealing, stealth, and hiding I will still be in pretty good shape if I go into stat loss.

With the high Ninjitsu I will still be able to use animal form to get the buffs if I am in statloss.

With Necromancy I will be able to use wraith form to stealth in.

The only thing I am debating about is the 75 spirit speak. I actually only need spirit to heal with (because there are really no spells requiring it that I would use.) I was even contemplating detect hidden in place of spirit speak.

Any ideas or suggestions on this?

I'm not planning on fighting, so I'm avoiding those templates. This is one of those get in and get out completely undetected templates.

Chiv can also help heal, not that your karma will be that high, but anything can help when you are running low on hit points and you are still seven steps away from your mark and almost in range to hide right in front of them...la

I was thinking of that. That was about the only reason I was going to keep spirit speak. I can heal with spirit (even while poisoned). As for getting around, I use 20 charge runebooks and just keep them full of charges. Another thing I do is carry a blessed totem of the void with me, whenever I get hit I run off and hide, put on my totem, and regen my hp's. Only takes a minute or two, and works great.

Overall a fine template. Chiv is nice, since you wont be stealing from players and losing your karma. It might be preferable over SS.

Magery might even be a nice replacement. You can use pots and 50% EP as your sole form of healing, quite effectively I might add, and you'll be able to open a gap in all those nasty fields the mages will drop in front of you.

I still worry about your defenses. If a mage and archer duo were to know you were in their base, you would be very hard pressed to survive. Every single arrow will hit you, dealing upwards of 30 damage per shot. Trying to use spirit speak in this situation will only worsen your chances.

Keeping that stealth and stealing high will be a life saver while you're in stat, however.
