As you've noticed, we have been experiencing issues with the connection to the game servers in the past few days, which causes sudden disconnects and many have experienced spikes in latency. The purpose of this post is to give you an insight into what's been going on.
We recently upgraded Albion's servers and solved an issue with performance of large-scale fights, unfortunately the problems we are dealing with now are a different beast. They are caused by so called DDoS attacks, which started several days ago and which we've been defending against. After some initial problems, we brought up our defenses and successfully defended even against relatively severe attacks. The issues you're experiencing now are the result of an ongoing struggle between our partner's DDoS defense infrastructure and our attackers. For the most part we appear to be winning (the game is up after all), but occasionally something slips through and causes these disruptions.
Unfortunately, we cannot go into the technical details (as we don't want to provide a tactical advantage to the attackers), but we can say that our partners are doing everything they can and they're one of the largest and most reputable hosting company in the world. We're working closely with them to defeat this (though they have to do all the heavy lifting, we can't do much ourselves) and we will keep you updated as soon as we have any more information to share.
