Explaination of how to get an invasion going?

I don't understand and haven't seen what causes invasions from the faction side of things. What does factions have to do? what steps do the signals have to take? What factions start the invasion.

I know some may not agree with me, but I suspect that if you want to see new invasions on a daily basis instead of just a bunch of towns with corrupted townsfolk, both sides in the conflict have to get involved in trying to corrupt the sigils.
