Don't know if anyone else has had this happen, if it was a one time glitch or whatever, but I spent 3.5 hrs getting keys for two of us to do exodus, took flipping ages to get the sets, we go to alter, perform the rite, get into the encounter, and go to where we intend to kill it, to find another 3 ppl there with exodus about 85% dead.

We were there for like 2 minutes and it was dead, didn't get 'rights' and totally wasted our time. I am severely pee'd off with the whole thing.

It is NOT supposed to let anyone in if the thing is more than 60% dead, even that is too much, but as I said, this thing was near dead and we didn't even get loot rights with the couple of shots we got in. If your going to do exodus suggest you ask in chat if anyone is flipping well in there, or you may end up wasting half a damn day like I just did to get keys for no actual fight.

NOT very happy.

Oh I agree. But good luck getting this changed.
Yeah I know what you mean. If it can't be an instanced fight, then they should lock out anyone that arrived to the fight late and would not get looting rights. It's has to suck to do all the work just to watch others get all the looting rights.

Sadly it is not the people who were already in theres fault. They were super surprized to see us arrive. I can imagine they wouldn't of been super impressed if we did get rights, especially if we got a drop and they didn't. Either way, I can't hardly think of a time when I have been so pee'd off with UO.

Why they made this encounter so that everyone had to have their OWN set of keys is beyond me, and as for the crafting of them that is never gonna be a goer when they make 'taint' another peerless hard to get ingredient part of making the keys. I sometimes wonder if the designers have any clue or even play the game to understand the frustration of this kind of thing.

That sucks. I actually thought it was a instanced thing like Medusa. Good luck in them changing it, when they can't even keep the damn login server fixed. :yell::cursing::rant2::fight::slap::wall::twak::grrr:

I saw this happen to a bunch of other folks when I was doing Exodus a few months ago.

I had Exodus down to 10% life when a group of about 12+ people came in, suffice to say none of them got rights. They keyed and in less than 5 minutes their 'adventure' was over.

I remember thinking to myself how mad I would be if I was in that group of people. It was a huge group! A bunch of keys and personal time right down the toilet.

Lousy system.

This should not have happened. Patch notes say
  • If at any time during the Encounter Exodus' HP drops below 60%, additional groups will not be able to join the encounter, if Exodus' HP regen to 75%, additional groups will be able to join the encounter.
Someone should have a look at this and fix it please.

Yes well I submitted a bug report, not that I think anything will come from that. Personally I think once the thing starts it should be like all other peerless in that NO new groups can enter and upon entering the party leader should get keys in pack to allow others in THEIR group in for the first 5 mins if they are partied.

The really bad thing is the time it takes to actually get the darn keys, I would do a LOT more peerless type encounters if it wasn't such a drag to get the keys, this goes for all of em, you sometimes just don't want to spend hour upon hour collecting keys to do the things you want in game.

ONE day the devs will wise up and allow us to put 'keys' on vendors, sure they will eventually go 'poof' when the 7 day timer runs out, but at least for the time they are on there other ppl may benefit. I often 'start' getting keys and never complete the set I need, then know I will not have time in the next week to 'use' em as the day set aside for long play has just been wasted trying to get the keys for what I want to do unsuccessfully, or my group will be unavailable etc and the window of time we allowed when we are 'all on' has gone. Other times if I am farming for gold, honor etc I inadvertantly get keys that someone else may use, and no I don't want to stand in chat yelling out, would much rather put excess keys on a vendor and let people 'buy' em if they need em.

Anyways, what a waste of a day for me, hours spent getting keys for an encounter I didn't get, and now can't log in due to the log in server being down AGAIN.

Well I for one hate getting keys to Exodus and NOTHING ticks me off more than to spend hours on end farming keys for a group of friends to go only to get down there and not be able to get looting rights or anything because someone else was already there and he was nearly dead.

This is extremely annoying and honestly wrong IMO. The keys are a HUGE pain to get and having to get a set for everyone is insane. After a long while I just gave up caring about doing Exodus anymore. More frustrating than rewarding.

Sorry this happened to you.....but here is some free advice to insure it doesn't happen again..... Send one person In Alone first.....that person can lure it to a good spot and Inform the rest of your party if they should come in or not.

Second there are fast ways to get keys for all peerless.....some are super easy...some are average difficulty, but each have their own trick...if you learn them they your frustration lvl will decrease since getting keys is no big deal really. Hardest peerless to key is dread, and even that is easy if you know the right technique.

Don't take huge groups in.....every peerless can be soloed ( for best chance at drops) but should never need more than 3-4 peeps max. Small groups makes things go faster and easier.... For example I can solo medusa faster then I can do it with inexperienced friends

Here is the thing about the Exodus encounter... More so than with any other mob... If you don't know what you are doing it can take a very long time to kill him. If he is less than 60% health when you drop in with one of those groups you will have no trouble getting looting rights. However, for groups that know what they are doing, you can kill Exodus pretty quick. With my 3 accounts (2 wraith form warriors cross healing and a bard in the background running 2 mastery songs) I can kill him in less time than 2 EOO. If you drop in with me around that 60% health mark and spend even a minute or so completing the rite, getting your party set up and looking for Exodus he will be much closer to dead.

I'm not sure if there is a perfect balance to it because of the significant variance in time/tactics. If you make him instanced and all 3 fill up with groups that are less efficient, you could end up with everyone else locked out of the encounter for a good hour... which will piss people off. If you set the % health too low on a global encounter you can end up with the same thing. The other alternative is what we have now where you can drop in with a group that is fast and not have time to really fight before he is dead.

The same thing goes for keys... They are intentionally there to be a grind to slow down the rate that people can do the encounter. It is intended that you can't just chain Exodus non-stop.

Personally, I would suggest a gump that allows you to accept or reject placing the alter if the encounter is already in progress. If you try and place the alter while someone else is down there with less than 60% health you could opt the reject its placement and save your keys for another time. If you accept the placement then you accept the chance that you might not be fast enough to get looting rights depending on who is there.

it shouldnt take 3 hours to get keys. kill only the highest fame creatures, the overseers, juggernaughts, dont bother with the knights or gargoyle things. if you kill a lower fame one by accident no big deal. You should be able to get more than 1 set of keys in an hour using swords character with healing and resist (still need to be careful when blood oathed)

Make sure you're in a party when getting keys, since multiple people can get a drop when you kill one (as long as they all attack it).

1) I agree it's annoying to find another group in there, especially if life is already very low. I thought there was some sort of threshold (below 70% health) where you can't enter the Exodus dungeon anymore. I've been caught up a few times having FINALLY got a group together, all keys handed out, only to be denied entry because someone is already in there and then having to wait nearly 20 minutes to do it. There should really be 2-3 rooms, similar to Stygian Dragon, Medusa, etc...

Maybe with the new expansion coming out, they are going to fix the glitch with getting the boss hung up and maybe they will fix the above... but I won't be holding my breath over it.

2) The keys SHOULD NOT be easy to get. Exodus drops some really great loot, and yes, it should be DIFFICULT and TIME CONSUMING to key for it. Everything in this game should not be instant gratification.

My suggestion for getting keys faster are to go in with a group, hopefully with wide array of templates (someone on a mystic mage, tamer with a GD, an archer, provo bard, etc.). If one person is responsible for getting 5 sets of keys for multiple people, then yes, it's probably going to take forever. If you go in with half a dozen people and split up into a couple of groups working different rooms, you should be able to pool your keys and get 2-3 runs worth in relatively short amount of time. This is especially true if you're focusing on only going after the high end mobs. I find having a bard with provo in there to be invaluable for crowd control purposes. You can really kick some a$$ if you have someone doing crowd control right. Other template that works well for me is ABC archer or wraith archer with a 100% energy wep with a hit area effect mod on your weapon.

most likely merlin is right and you started your rites to get in before the first group got him below the threshold mark.
and then by the time you got to exodus monster it was much lower in health.
it might be checking whether to let you in when you first start the rite.

perhaps a fix is to show on the alter a message of people already in there and whether you will join them or not. like a colored gem (color shows you in progress or not)

You are giving wrong facts. You cannot send only 1 person in at a time. Minimum is 2...

As for getting Keys I take a character I specifically made to get keys by both stealing and revealing and picking the chests. I know it's 100X faster to take a provoker down there and all but I prefer stealing them which I'll say takes FOREVER. And if there are people killing they kill all the guys I need to steal from before I can steal from them. Because well they are easy to kill.

I can understand your frustration. A small group can farm 5-10 sets of keys per hour. The thing was not meant to be soloed. If you are there getting keys by yourself, chances are it is going to take a very long time.

Yes I get keys by myself, on small shards with low pop it is often the only way to get a group together if you are 'good to go' and my thief is the one who collects the keys. The other peerless are much quicker and you only require one set, although sometimes on shimmering effusion we run out of time getting keys before people have to log.

That being the case, sure it doesn't have to be 'easy' to get keys, but it shouldn't be that hard either, they are a means to an end. But given that once you HAVE the keys, what happened above shouldn't of happened. I shouldn't get into exodus to find the 3-4 ppl aready there have it at 10% health, and I waste my time and all my keys for a non-event.

ALL it requires is a gump to appear when you try to 'place' the summoning alter asking you if you 'wish to join' the existing encounter or 'cancel' placement. I guarantee 99% of people will cancel placement as they don't want to have the same thing happen.

If they have coded it so that it can supposedly 'tell' when a group is in there they can just as easily code it to give you the option to continue or not if someone is already in there.

Keying Exodus is a total pain. My group (which is usually a full group plus another smaller group) has gone in before just to watch another group finish him off... that's a LOT of boring key hunting time wasted. I agree that Exodus should be instanced or at least give a warning if another group is in there.

I wish there was a way to know if he's already been spawned... I hate to waste all the keys going there to find that he's already mostly dead. Such a waste of time... usually it's such a pain getting the keys that we are lucky to have enough for one run anyway.

Like you, I prefer the detect/steal method of obtaining the keys. It gets tedious, but I still find it more fun than just killing everything forever.

You can also pickpocket the zealots and SOMETIMES they have keys and/or peerless ingredients. It's not a sure thing though, and can earn you a trip to the ankh if you make a mistake.

I do it to obtain Taint. That's the main objective the keys are just a bonus.
