[Auction] Exceptional Greater Dragon Auction

This dragon was tamed within two weeks of greater dragons being introduced to the regular shards, and trained three days later, making it one of the first fully trained greater dragons in the game. It's PPC rating is 4.4, but it is far better than it's rating, because the PPC doesn't give enough credit to skills over 100—I should know, I helped design the PPC.

I've seen dragons with better resists, I've seen dragons with better stats, and I've seen dragons with better skills, but I've never seen this kind of combination of resists, stats and skills in any other dragon—I know they exist, but I haven't seen one. He's easily the best dragon I've ever tamed, and that combination of 120+ wrestle and 120+ resisting spells makes him the best you can get in any context.

The reserve is 200 mil. The auction will close at midnight (24:00), Sunday, May 15, 2016, Eastern, that's 4:00 UTC, Monday, May 16, 2016. Any bid entered within ten minutes of that final time will extend the auction a further ten minutes, and so on, until no one bids for more than 10 min.

The dragon is on the Atlantic shard.

edit: He can be delivered to any shard, Monday or Tuesday, depending on the shard.

Time for a little rant. The PPC (Pet Power Calculator) basically looks at two things, and gives very little weight to anything else: hits and resists. Back in the old days before the PPC, most people just thought a pet was a pet, and didn't have the patience to figure out what made certain pets more effective than others.

I played Cats back then, and I remember being able to lore other player's pets, and basically be able to tell which pets I had given away or sold, because your average pet sucked. The PPC changed all that, and now pets in general are much better quality than they used to be. All hail the PPC.

But what hasn't changed is the fact that most people still don't understand what, tactically, makes a difference a pet's real performance, they just see the PPC rating and assume that's the whole story. For example, on a dragon, damage is capped, both melee and fire damage, so beyond a certain point, str and hp don't make much difference. In fact, when it comes to real performance, anything over 800 on a dragon won't make much difference at all.

One thing that does make a huge difference in dragons, is skills over 100. All skills train to 100, except on a few pets, dragons being one of them. On dragons four skills can train to over 120, Wrestle, Tactics, Resisting Spells, and Magery. But not all skills are created equal.

Again, because melee damage in dragons is capped, tactics makes very little difference. Magery also makes very little difference. Any pet can cast just about any spell, 100% of the time, no matter how low their magery is, and how effective they are depends on eval int. The only difference that magery makes is in the amount damage the pet heals on itself when it casts greater heal, and once you get over 100 skill, the difference in the amount of damage healed is pretty minimal. Combine that with the fact that most pets don't cast heal all that often, except when it is already too late, and magery truly is the least important of the skills over 100.

The two skills that do matter, are wrestle and resisting spells. And as with most skills, every full ten points represents a threshold, so a 120/120 wrestle/resist dragon is significantly more useful than a 110/110 dragon. My general rule of thumb is that 120+ wrestle is most useful in pvm, and 120+ resisting spells is most useful in pvp. A 120 resist dragon will walk through a normal para, a 110 resist dragon will not.

So when I say this dragon is significantly better than it's 4.4 rating would indicate, I'm not blowing smoke. I would take this dragon over the vast majority of the higher rated dragons I have seen. I'm not unhappy with the bids so far, but this dragon is at least as good as other higher rated dragons that have been sold lately on this forum, and probably better.
