2/26/2019 – The rangers received word from Sir Geoffrey that he was prepared to act and wished for their assistance. When they met with Geoffrey in Jhelom, he explained that in the town there existed an unwritten hierarchy that all of the town’s fighters existed in that was understood by most to be a rough ranking of their skill and accomplishment. The headmasters of the three schools, Rolf, Rufus and Vasuki, because of their positions and nearly unrivaled combat mastery, were considered to be the most highly ranked warriors in Jhelom, but the true champion, Geoffrey stated, was himself. His plan was to issue a Callout – an old Jhelom practice where rivals and challengers of appropriate rankings could call out their foes to the pits – but not just any normal callout. Geoffrey intended to call out the entire city of Jhelom, all of its warriors and its schools into the pits to hash out their grievances in the manner they knew best.

After arriving at the pit, Geoffrey wasted no time. His booming voice resounded across the whole island as he insulted, taunted, and baited each and every warrior that dwelled there, offering those that had the courage to show themselves the chance to fight with the champion of Jhelom himself. This was more than enough to draw out the three schools and their headmasters. Once they had arrived, Geoffrey questioned the headmasters as to what was going on in Jhelom, and learned that the city had become infested with a drug called the Serpent’s Dream, and that Rolf, who was an old friend of his, had been using it to gain an edge. He learned as well that Rolf was furious, intent on purging Jhelom of the Rufus, Vasuki, and their schools – Rufus for his underhanded ways and Vasuki for murdering his own son. When the anger of the headmasters could no longer be contained, all hell broke loose, as the schools erupted into a bloody melee, the headmasters and Geoffrey clashed in an incomprehensible storm of blows, and all the while the rangers struggled amidst the chaos.

After a long and trying battle, the headmasters and their students injured and weary from battle, Geoffrey noticed a shady dealer offering his wares to the injured students, and called him out. When the dealer approached, Geoffrey revealed that the true nature of his plan had been all along to draw out the dealer. The dealer seemed undeterred, even in the face of the the man that was known to be the Champion of Valor, admitting first his association with the Viper Gang, before ominously saying that his boss would soon be taking over the Guild of Thieves, but refused to say who was producing it. He then consumed five vials of Serpent’s Dream and went berserk, taking on the entire gathering of rangers and all still able to fight. Despite his unnatural strength, however, the rangers were able to take him down.

As the dust settled, the rangers seemed uncertain in the melee in the pit had helped at all. Geoffrey assured them that it had to calm the overall tensions building up in Jhelom, but it would not be a permanent solution. Reconciling the headmasters’ feud and eliminating the Serpent’s Dream drug would need to occur to bring stability back to Jhelom.
