1/17/2019 – After a brief meeting to discuss the Rangers Guild moving forward, Shamino stated that he intended to pursue Rufus, the headmaster of the Hand of Death fighting school, in relation to his working with the Necromancers of Yew as well as his possible connection to the so-called “Assassin of Vesper”, who was a graduate of the Hand of Death and responsible for murdering the Sheriff of Vesper. Because Rufus has been known to be elusive and hard to reach, Shamino had reached out to a former contact, Keith of the Brothers in Arms fighting school that the rangers encountered during their run-in with the Bootyful Bastards pirates, in the hopes that Keith would once again help them to track down Rufus.

According to Shamino, Keith had responded to his request but asked for aid in a mission of his own before he could help them locate Rufus, and to meet with him at the Shrine of Honor for further details. The rangers were advised to be cautious, for while Keith had helped before, his school, the Brothers in Arms, was the main rival to the Hand of Death.

Shortly after the rangers arrived at the Shrine of Honor, Keith appeared as he said he would. The fighter, who in their last encounter had infiltrated the Bootyful Bastards in an attempt to find out what they and the Hand of Death were doing, was still working the very same mission by being embedded in the pirate crew and tracking their business. In addition to the fight fixing and piracy protection racket that the pirates and the Hand of Death were somehow able to get away with under the reign of the previous governor, the pirates also did a bit of smuggling as well. Keith claimed that the pirates were set to meet with one of their contacts that was selling some kind of armor and weapons that, for some reason, needed to be smuggled into Jhelom. The reason for this was that the Hand of Death’s catastrophic defeat at the Dark Path several months ago had been a major setback to their otherwise growing trajectory of domination over Jhelom, and to offset that disadvantage wrought from losing some of their best fighters the school was now smuggling weapons in that could offer them an unparalleled advantage over their rivals. This shipment, Keith said, was what he needed help stopping.

Keith instructed the rangers to follow him into the jungle to the meeting point where some of the pirates were waiting, but to hide in the bushes and avoid being seen. Shortly after they arrived, the pirates seemed to be surprised when they were visited by a strange priest rather than the person that they had been expecting. The priest stated that the pirates’ contact had been taken care of, and that their presence would no longer be permitted. As the pirates, dumbfounded by the priest’s threatening tone, prepared to kill him, assassins sprung from the wilderness, swiftly murdering all of the pirates and then attacking the hidden rangers. The priest disappeared into the jungles.

In the aftermath of the fight, Keith remarked that this would be a perfect opportunity to take out the pirates completely since several of them had already been killed in battle. The group rushed back to the southern peninsula where the pirates had been encamped only to find all of them assassinated. Only one pirate was alive, First Mate Skelly, who in his dying breath told the rangers he had been killed by a group known as the Viper Gang.

Keith thanked the rangers for their help, and asked them to visit him again in a week at the Brothers in Arms hall, where they could continue their work from there.
