Didn't we try this once?

Even if we did....I say try it again. Now that we have a word from the reconstituted live team, let's help them out some.

I think an index of leftover things from old, defunct events that should be "cleaned up" would be very useful for them to have.

Actually, I think Barry adds something, and it's clear that whatever's gonna happen there's good odds it involves Moongates....So maybe leave him in for the time being?

I'm not putting the Lost Lands pillars, because I'm not sure what the dude was talking about, and if it is what I'm thinking of I think they were meant to be permanent? Post or PM me.

At various locations they are still spouting about events that are long-gone. When you think about it, while new players aren't common in our game, they DO happen, and they are gonna be really confused!

Maybe not everyone would accept that, but I sure as Hell would, partly because it feels really real!!!!!

I don't mind the Ricardo Wanted posters or the fire works so much. If Barry and the ghost arc are not going to be continued thenthey probably be removed. Sudiva is currently in place of some old spawn, not sure how much her removal is desired for the spawn.

My pet peeve, i guess, is the town cryers shouting their 'news'... can't really call it 'news', it should be called 'olds'. If the information they have is not current then it should be removed. Or put a disclaimer stating that "there is no new news, but the most recent news was...". Either that or a 'turn off current cryer messages' routine should be activated any time an event is turned off.

I have reservations about "cleaning up" leftovers as you put it. If they are a nuisance and interfere with normal gameplay (like spawn in Heartwood or blocked off areas) then I wholeheartedly agree. If they really wreck the scenery (like during the Meer event when the Decay had turned Yew into a icky swamp, or that sheriff who really needs to retire
) then I can also understand turning it back to how it used to be. But event leftovers are also mementos.

More importantly, at least in my case, they have often proven quite useful when organizing player run events. As a player, I can't place an oracle somewhere in the boonies, but I could use a "leftover" one and adapt my storyline to his existing replies. The barricades erected in West Brit Mines and Trinsic have become landmarks, same with many other remaining former event locations. I've often used the leftover books, jewels and other items inscribed with cryptic text from past EM/Seer/Global events that can still be found lying around in dungeons, brigand camps, random locations in the wild. I can't lockdown a book inside Yew Prison or in a chest at the bottom of Fire Dungeon, but I can ask people participating in my player event to find the answer to a riddle in the text written inside those very books still remaining from the Tunic Fork quest that EM Nikademus and EM Vincent ran for us a few years ago. (dang that was a long sentence!!)

So I'm not against cleaning up, but imho it shouldn't be a blanket thing.

And now I realize something very interesting, that I did not realize before.

You know how I'm always criticizing my fellow U-Hallers for describing their own preferences as objective things that "need" to be "fixed?"

I had no idea I'd be doing it too with this thread....I had no idea some folks took the "leftovers" as momentos and want them to remain.

Sorry about that, I should have cast it better.

However, having said that.....I do think that most of us agree that there's a difference between a momento (example could be Slik's Tavern on LS, or also on LS the various pieces of old scenarios left at the Jhelom Museum in Fel or at Rivendell) and a leftover (what I'm trying to highlight here).

Sudiva could be classified as a momento. I have a harder time with the misinformed Trinsic sheriff and the wanted posters!

The cave that Ricardo hid out in by Destard they blocked from recalling/gating, well Ricardo's been found the cave is emptied of treasures and since one of the hags quest imps hides in this cave how about re-opening it?

Also even if its a temporary stop until something is decided with Magicina how about removing it as a destination for NPC's, if you take them there even they dont recognize it as Mag anymore and you can never finish delivering them.

Heck I'd love to be trick or treating in Feburary! Imagine the loads of candy!!!

And I don't think it needs to be turned off..just stop doing it! Does the trick or treating code REALLY affect you in any way? YOU, the player actually have to activate that one....solution? DO NOT SAY TRICK OR TREAT! *laughs* silly people!

Now the town criers......either they need to be updated or removed, they confuse people, some spouting about the constilations in the sky, others spouting about hordes of monsters found in graveyards not from this PAST Halloween but the halloween before!

Now updating and changing all that code is more time spent on needless, imo, things so just take them out...or change them all to *I have no news* and leave it at that until they have time to do them right. Not a top priority.

The ricardo wanted posters....again do not affect game play, I rather like them there because people still ask me every once in ahwile *Who's Ricardo?* and I get to go into a big lengthy speech about the Inu event and they think it's really neat.

Barry I love...I say hi to him every time I am in Luna and he always reminds me to address my pets with their proper names, something everyone should do


The *leftovers* kinda remind us about events past and I rather like them.

The Burning South Jhelom docks (at least 3 years old)
The Burning/destroyed tents and weapons from the Minotaur invasion (east, South and West sides). But, I want the North side left alone (intact tent, 3 Rotting corpse, 2 Ancient lich and 1 Skeletal dragon spawn), since it's still active and makes life interesting (also gives us trammie types a taste of Khaldun without having to go there). Of course, if I had my way, the Luna gate would be moved to the "false gate location" outside the north gate.
The "A Paladin A Champion of Honor" NPCs at Trinsic entrances - they make a non-recall entry into Trinsic a gauntlet run, if not a suicide mission, for negative karma types.

Actually the pumpkins still growing in the gardens do not really bug me. I actually picked one last week and FINALLY got a black one ! HAHA

I think the gardens should always grow something for us...which brings to mind all the SHUT OUT shut off gardens and plots of them...what is up with that ..be a nice lil garden by Delucia Stable and we can not even enter it...*toss in all the other ones they keep us out of* let us pick the veggies !! Let them grow things and let us IN them Please, all of em !

Lots of things seem to be or end up stuck and forgotten left overs from prior events or as of yet unfinished events.

GET RID OF blackrock elementals attacking miners.

Ricardo long over with..ghost at brit gate been there so long we barely rememeber what it is there for !!

The Moonglow set ups dark wisps long gone tent and guard still there, and the blackrock fencing thing.........either those not done yet ie prematurely sitting there or over done with get rid of em..unless put up like some memorial like the hedges from the ophid invasion there to remind us of lost lives that tried to defend Moonglow back then.

New Haven still broken mess in ways.
Magincia needs some...cure something. It too is over with time to rebuild or regrow or something there.

But I do not mind picking pumpkins even now...as for trick or treating I quit that when it became NOV.
but I still like pumpkins growing in the gardens esp by wheat fields just seems they belong there no matter what time of year it is in rl its uo..could be perma fall for all we know.

Why should items be cleaned up for the sake of an event being over? There is stuff all over the place from past Seer events, Scenarios, etc. Unless it somehow is disruptive I think doesn't need to be removed.

You guys can clear that out with a well organized group. If you kill the spawn starting from the top of the fort and work your way down, they will be permanently defeated and never respawn.

That is a sign of losing the event, at least on Fel, like the lack of a ferry from Trinsic to Magincia on Siege Perilous.

To my thinking, a sign of losing the event is in a different category than a "leftover."

Like on shards that lost the long-ago "Plague of Despair" scenario, and Yew remained "infected" ("infected" NPCs, plague creatures, etc.).

You mean the lingering presence of the plague creatures?

I think that's intentional.

Traces of the infection remained.

Remember that not all scenarios are "start, middle, finish." Some of them are also excuses to introduce new content.

Example, the Solens. The result of that scenario was that we had Bags of Sending for a long time.

Yes.

That stuff, however, I wouldn't call "leftover." There's still arguably a reason for it being there. Some of the NPCs in the Brit Castle still conversing with Sherry the Mouse I also would NOT call a leftover. I couldn't call Slik's Tavern on LS a leftover.

But the Ricardo wanted posters, after he's been both caught AND tried? And the un-informed NPCs? And the ghost lingering at the Brit Gate, just hanging out there?

Very different category.

Sadly I can't come up with a good, working definition of what I have in mind, just examples.

Just so everyone knows, while I think that leftover EM stuff should DEFINITELY be removed, I'm not adding it to my own initial post, because I want my original post to be for stuff related to the broader-scale events.

This isn't a discouragement for putting those items in this thread, just an explanation for why I wasn't adding it to my original post. (Nor is it suggesting that you should care if I put it in or not, feel free not to! *chuckles*)

Let's add the NPC in the Keg&amp;Anchor tavern in Trinsic.

Sure he adds some color, but mostly he's just annoying, spouting off more-or-less randomly about plot things that are long-dead.

My suggestion is to keep him, but change what he says. Local things about how he hates Trinsic but likes the drinks, and has just enough money to keep himself drunk constantly for the rest of his life, etc., etc. Maybe give him a random short story about Captain Quacklebush he can tell.
