7/26/2018 – At the Rangers Guild Hall, the rangers gathered to meet with Abigail, who had been practicing the techniques described in Mariah’s notes with regular paint for the past two days. Based on the notes, Abigail was convinced that Shamino had left an encoded message in the painting that would lead to his location. However, once she began to work on Shamino’s painting, a paint portal not unlike the one Sasha had used to escape a month prior appeared, leading the rangers inside of Shamino’s painting of the Rangers Guild. Soon they found themselves in a brightly colored version of the Rangers Guild, and outside they found Shamino painting a tree, although seemingly in some kind of trance. After prodding the hypnotized ranger for a minute, Shamino came to his senses, as if awaking from his work and realized then he had been drawn into an intense focus of the imagination. Were it not for the rangers’ intervention, he said, he might not have been able to come back. However, he was not prepared to leave the strange paint realm they found themselves in.
Shamino seemed convinced that there was another force at work within the painting, a dark influence that he had felt shimmering at the edge of his conscious but unable to recognize it. Now that he was in possession of his faculties again, he led the rangers elsewhere in his painting to a place that had been corrupted with a black, oily substance similar to what had been oozing out of Mariah’s portrait.
From the spreading pool of corrosive paint, the form of Sasha emerged. Completely unhinged, Sasha ranted about the coming of a “master”, and mentioned a being called the Shadow Stroke, before succumbing to death himself. Strange, unnatural roots emerged from the ground, assaulting the rangers followed by formless beasts emerging from the oil. Soon these beasts took form as the battle progressed and before long massive roots were flailing about wildly attempting to wrest control of the painting, but the rangers were able to fend the beings off, allowing the painting to be successfully completed. The mystery of the shadowy master of the paint realm, however, would remain.
