8/15/2019 – The rangers, having been summoned by the traveling merchant Nico Radu, traveled to his wagon so they could complete the promised deal. In return for having helped Nico acquire certain manuscripts of his ancestor’s prophecy, he agreed to acquire the mysterious substance known as Shalathian spice as well a treasure from his selection of rare curiosities. In order to complete the deal, however, Nico would have to deal with his dreaded competitor, Nadezhda Izbasa, who had set up her own shop, “Nadezhda’s Fine and Forbidden Wares”, near the Blood Dungeon. Too chicken to approach the mysterious trader, Nico quietly parted ways and left the rangers to deal with her themselves. Nadezhda seemed to expect their arrival and warned them that the treasure they sought, the Laughing Mongbat Statue, was terribly cursed and would only bring woe upon its owner. Nevertheless, the rangers were determined to complete the deal and defeat the evil of this place.
Led by the whimsical merchant, the rangers followed Nadezhda into the furthest depths of the dungeon, where deadly monsters wandered near the Mongbat Statue. Nadezhda proceeded to awaken the statue, claiming that only blood and anguish could compel the mongbat statue to laugh. The rangers were drawn into a grueling battle against the residents of the dungeon, pushing themselves to their very limits, until the mongbat statue seemed to laugh in uncontrollable fits. The spirit of the statue, a massive Laughing Mongbat, was drawn out of the statue and soon defeated. When the dust settled, Nadezhda congratulated the rangers on being fools and began her arrangements to deliver the Shalathian dream spice to the Rangers Guild Hall.
