I've just notice that the event is now active, you can find some angry rioters in the city that are burning down things :D

Just go near them with a rope to arrest them, then go near the captain to get your loyalty.

unfortunately you get missing string as message in the journal so we have to wait for the client patch :/

there are also the angry protester. if you give them food, clothing or gold they give you loyalty. 1k gold make the man quiet :D
after 10 food they not take it anymore.
they take unlimited clothings...

when a protester is happy, will restore the default name and another will spawn somewhere in the city.

Hmm what are the rewards if I keep the town folk happy or stop the rioters. I don't want to waste my time if the rewards are weak. (that is sarcasm)

I just wanted to say it first before anyone.

Can't wait for it to go live on production shards. :)

Just a note: you must not attack the rioters, they are very weak and they die with 1 shot, just use the rope :D

I've found another way to gain loyalty: put out fires and clear garbage :)

There should be some raiders around that must be subdued in order to be arrested and they should reward with higher loyalty.

Here is the list of how gain loyalty (in order of amount):
- clear garbage
- give gold/food/clothing to protesters
- put out a fire
- arrest rioters
- subdue and arrest raiders

I give up: Where the hell are these Guard Captains?

Edit: Found the one in Britain. Got a rope. Arrested an angry rioter in The Blue Boar. Unfortunately, NPCs refuse to walk through other NPCs, and there are two unmoveable yellow NPCs blocking the rioter's path. So no arrest for me.

Edit 2: The prisoner poofed, but it won't let me use the rope because it claims I already have a prisoner. It lets me replace my rope with a new rope, but won't let me use the new rope, either.

Edit 3: It finally said "You did not take your prisoner to the Guard Captain in time." and let's me use my rope again. That was a long timeout.

Edit 4: Is there a Guard Captain in Moonglow? The only one I've found is in Britain.

Edit 5: Now I have another prisoner, but she won't follow me. She's just wandering aimlessly.

I was a bit more direct in the lore thread, but I'm glad someone else spotted the reference I was making here; although I've not been on Test Centre myself, what made me think of the above was that we have to tidy up garbage in particular, be it on the streets rather than inside of an inn we are staying at...

It is only a guess at this stage for me, and I'm not going to say much more because it would be a huge spoiler if so. We're in roughly the same Ultima Prime ball park I think to make it not an entirely wild shot in the dark; the real world parallels are just coincidental but potentially symbolically powerful which may be one reason why we've moved to that stage now...

And the blind, violent authoritarianism already seeping in to posts about the "protesters" makes the original Prime events so much more convincing; wouldn't you reject the realm too if "rubbing with the Hubbard" as it were, were so much more obviously moral on the surface than the urge to just lynch people because they challenged your cherish authority...?

That made me think you could go to other towns and "raid" them. Am loyal to Jhelom, recalled to Glow, saw a rioter and can not even scratch it. Even snagged a GD, and tried every mage spell I could to no avail. Not even a single point of damage. Hmmmm

*edit*

I can however kill rioters in Jhelom really easily and it takes loyalty down. Have killed a few and am at Detested. Maybe that's where the raiders come in. Dunno how someone would subdue me with a rope tho... gonna go test it somehow.

*edit 2*

With the assistance of Faeryl it would seem the rope has no effect on someone attacking the rioters. I ebolted one, she went to arrest me, and nadda. Not even a missing string deal when it was done.

Ah, nice pun in that post.

On GL we've interacted with this group since last summer in EM events. In fact, last month, they all went missing...

I wonder if we'll be seeing the big red muppet before next summer is over.

Interesting... They've not been on Europa at all, but our EMs tend to be more free wheeling and follow their own fiction rather than Prime lore. In fact our most recent event was interrupted by the rubble for the global being patched in (or was roleplayed as an unexpected discovery, as we were heading to the Gargoyle city nearby anyway, and found ourselves stuck by it)...

However, we won't really see the Muppet I fear until the dev's patch in the "Jump" emote, and make us use it through hundreds of jumping puzzles :p

But anyway, the story beginning with the discovery of a near-corpse also seemed apt; or maybe I'm reading too much into it! Let's hope the narrative continues the same high quality as shown so far, where ever it eventually leads...

I am not sure about the muppet. Since he was the other side of the avatar not sure it will be exactly him. Think they will have to do a riff on it just like they did with the shadow lords. Of course I did love Pagan so. :D

Well I manage to apprehend one rioter, put out the forest fire he started :/ and appeased 7 protesters...still no loyalty on the loyalty menu though :( BUT I will keep Yew safe! lol

The way to bring in muppet-head is to play up the ease at which he moved between, corrupted and then conquered different planets. Since we've never been specifically told how far UO lags behind Ultima Prime, the muppet could still be consolidating his power by corrupting the echoes (shards) of Sosaria to 'weaken' the original.

Or, as I hope they are doing, Exodus could be behind this - or at least part of it. It's long past time we definitively dealt with loose plot threads (Minax, Exodus, Inu, etc.)

Has anyone seen how the "can only be loyal to one town" thing works?

Does it prevent you from getting loyalty in more than one town? (As in locks you out of the others once you gain in one?) Does it subtract from one town as it adds another? Do there seem to be some kind of opposition? (Like, Trinsic hates Brit, Yew hates Skara, etc.) Or does everyplace seem on its own?

I seems you can gain loyalty to more than one town. I had a rope from Jhelom and went to Glow. Tried to get a rope in Glow and got the message, "you put the other rope back". However I was able to gain in Glow as well.

HOWEVER, from what I am getting thru a VERY VERY reliable source, it is IMPORTANT to only pick ONE town to be loyal too. You do so at your own peril late down the arc imo. Or that's the impression I get.

For those {and not saying this is why you are asking Galen} who are worried about what reward I get in what town stuff.... Pick one town per char and invest time in each town is my best advise.

*edit*

To answer second part the best I can. As of right now I can not see to where say a Jhelom versus Glow type deal is around. When I was loyal to Jhelom I tried to attack a rioter in Glow and was unable to do a single point of damage to it, even with putting a GD on it. Future story line could change that tho, and maybe that's where the "important to pick one town" stuff is coming from. *shrugs*

They can use something like him but he himself it wouldn't make sense. You can't have the avatars negatives form a new person without an avatar. They had to do some work arounds for the Shadow Lords too. It should be fun but it still seems like they would be advancing much faster then they should over 6 and 7 which many people believe were the best single player Ultima's ever.

actually there is no war town vs town... is more like the people is starving and start to burn down every city, and the government has spent all their coin to fight the bane chosen and they can't afford to pay more soldier to fight against this rebellion...
in short: anarchy and chaos :D

And about the loyalty lock... we don't know until the "Missing String" became something different :p

Thank you.

The Britannian central government was always comparatively weak, lacking for example a standing professional army apart from town guards and some knights and some high top brass to organize the militias (players).

The realm splintering apart, though a tad on the depressing side (very George RR Martin-ish) is logical.

More than likely the town loyalty will work kind of like the bane event! One can lower the other so loyalty in one town can decrease the effectiveness of loyalty in another!

The only way I have found to lower loyalty to any town is getting a rope but instead of arresting a rioter, killing them. Who knows what the future holds tho.

That makes sense. The people of Magincia have more than likely been ITCHING for a reason to riot seeing as how WE let their city get destroyed based on our greed for the rubble of their beloved city :p

*imagines even the most reserved of Magincia's population griping and grumbling about having their city destroyed only to have housing and vending opportunities put up there and reaching for their firebombs*

How can you tell apart the weak rioters (1 hit killed) who can only be arrested from those raiders who need to first be subdued and then arrested ?
