I have never been a big fan of the ocean going aspect of UO, Yeah I know makes perfect sense that a guy that lives on a island doesn't do the water things :) So I have had this big Brit ship knocking about from chest to chest in the Tokuno greenhouse for years and Mongbat a Character that I have never developed beyond planting and harvesting the raised beds and making scrolls . Dangerous combination! After much thought, about 3 seconds worth Mongbat decided to become a a mage, mystic, fishing pirate hunter. She contracted the services of Crafter Tyrath to arm her ship with 7 heavy cannons and 2 light cannons and make all of the things to keep them firing and keep the ship in good repair.

After spending a week getting to 115 mage 115 mystic 110 eval 100 focus 120 med 100 fishing, the 100 inscription was stoned and ERRR the Mongbat headed out to sea. The first challenge was learning to navigate the oceans and find that elusive floating market! Mongbat had heard of a Officer there that pays a Bounty for Dread Pirates! After several hours Mongbat had a light go on in her head and figured out how to use a sextant and pilot wheel and sailed right into the floating market. The residents of the market snickered and some openly laughed at the idea of a lowly Mongbat taking on Dread Pirates, but Mongbat was determined!

After finding the officer and accepting his mission, Mongbat boarded her ship and headed out to sea to find pirates. It did not take long, while sailing south and napping at the wheel Mongbat ran right into a pirate ship. She quickly turned the ship and ran down the port side cannons firing a broadside into the pirate ship. Then turned the ship aft and fired 2 more heavy cannon balls and two light loads of grapeshot. The Pirates quickly recovered from the shock of being attacked by a Mongbat on a really big heavily armed ship and began firing back! The orc bombers tossing explosives, the orc mage casting nasties and the dread captain poking poor mongbat with arrows. Mongbat kept hitting the healing stone and had a second healing stone in the spell trigger! Mongbat settles onto one cannon and slugged it out side to side with the pirate ship. Then Mongbats ship broke and could not move as the pirates kept up their fire. Mongbat not knowing what to do just kept firing one heavy cannon round after another until the pirate ship broke and could not move either! Finally the Pirate ship could not resist Mongbats magics any longer and a RC appeared on the pirates deck clearing the deck and going after the dread pirate. One RC after another with flame strike after flame strike finally caused the Captain to submit to mongbats will. Mongbat quickly tied the nasty pirate up and chained him to her ships pirate pole. Mongbat then raided the chest and hold of the pirate ship and found lots of goodies. Two smuggler chest full of booze!!!! A light cannon and lots of things for Mongbat to eat!

Mongbat had a big problem though..... Mongbats ship looked like it came out of the South side of a North bound dragon! After enlisting the help of crafter Tyrath and bringing many hundreds of boards and lots more cloth the ship finally was in perfect shape again!

After taking everything important like the 200 heads of cabbage mongbat set sail North for the sea port. The pirate was annoying the whole way trying to tempt Mongbat with tales of treasure and reform. Mongbat listened to none of it and kept poking the pirate with a looted carrot. The bounty office looked shocked as Mongbat brought the chained pirate captain before him and shakily handed mongbat 10,000 gold and stupid paper for some stupid broken ship. Who cares about gold and stupid broken ship when Mongbat has booze, cabbages and fun poking captured Pirate with a carrot! ERRR

Well done Mongbat!

First time I tangled with them I had a friend along. After all that fighting and Orc gibberish and, at last, tying up the Dread Pirate, my friend was eager beyond reckoning to open the pirate ship's containers, crates, and cargo hold....

"Where the heck were these pirates going," she huffed, flabbergasted at all the roasted pigs and assorted fruits and vegetables. "Were they out to have a picnic!?"

LOL I was not expecting soooo much food. Still a fun fight though, I need to work on my tactics. Maybe get the Orc ship in time and use it for fighting and the brit ship for fishing and fishing quest. LOL they really do need to add about 50,000,000 more hp to the dread pirates (NOT) and clearing the Orcs off the deck now that I know you can target them with direct spells will help alot.

Yes, I laughed too at the superhero durability of those pirates. It really seems silly too when you've put a Greater Dragon on one and almost doze off before it gets the pirate down to the 6-8% health you need prior to using that binding rope.

It will take awhile for you to collect enough ruined Orc ship plans because, no surprise, some portions drop far more rarely than others. I forget which plan numbers are the rarer ones. But an Orc ship has a cannon damage bonus. AND it looks ugly - something you cannot say of the other Galleon Class ships ;)

Plus, with a bit of practice with maneuvering and such, you can prevail in those encounters without having to use a forest's worth of boards, the harvest of a cotton plantation, and the productive capacity of an industrial mine to get your ship going again.

Really cool story! I like it very much! Dear Mongbat, I would like to move to an island, too... If you know a nice spot, you can tell it to old Doc Alz who himself loves the Ocean and visits your island every now and then

Trouble with most islands is they don't have space for bigger houses. I just got really lucky a few years ago to catch the keep that was there idoc and even luckier no one else knew about it. Since I closed several accounts there are 2 decent size house spots open on the island. Might also try cresent island a bit South of me. I have not ran around cresent but I know it has some bigger spots if they are not taken. The Four islands west of Serp Hold might also have some spots. Seems Islands are popular housing spots.... For obvious reasons LOL. All total there are 7-8 house spots open on the island I live on 4 that are not tiny spots, and all are far enough away from my ghetto :)

Oh Boy! I wish I ever had so much luck in UO. When I did an IDOC, it was 100% of the time camped, even on my homeshard DF, where not many people dwell - but unfortunately many notorious idocers. WHY CANT I FIND AN IDOC ALONE IN A PERFECT SPOT??? PLEAAAAASE!

But thanks for the info, I try my luck on the mentioned Islands :)

Finding a keep in IDOC in that spot with no one else was just short of a miracle. I just happened to be doing a T map there and was running from the AW chest Guardians. Just happened to glance at the house sign and reads in danger of collapsing. Gated my tracker/detective "The Hate" in and found no sign of anyone else. Forgot about the Chest LOL Told two good friends about it and gated them in. I dropped 3 trash houses on prodo shards and placed the 3 houses around the keep that are there now. And brought in a 4th character on a older acct with money and a house tool, this was before the second house thing. And we waited 45 minutes later the keep dropped. On the off chance that a rabid group of reds would show up we ran everything into the 3 surrounding houses. Then timer allowed my keep to place. My friends divided up the loot that they wanted and I kept a couple chest of resources and 4 fountains of life LOL and 5 ladders...... Ladders are kind of hard to come by :) Port Tyr was born, the only unfinished business was dropping my house/keep over by the raider camp and moving all of my junk into my new base of operations. Nice little harbor behind the keep, plenty of wood to chop, those little bumps on the ground give up enough ore to keep stocked with tools and fishing. I don't get a lot of visitors and try to keep the tele pads to the two ant, Zento, Termur, Wolf, Moonglow and Wind houses gated up. Its actually a pretty decent set up Moonglow is where the vendor is, Wind, wolf, and Termur are resource gathering houses. A guy who hunts ants has to have a good ant hunting set up so a house in the ants and another by a hive hole connected with tiles makes powder running a breeze. I will let most people use the Tele tiles and only ask that they drop some gate scolls on them now and then. The wolf house, the ant houses are public for hunting convienence also both are great level appropriate training houses. The wolf house is dangerous for even the strongest PvMs as a Kazee, a reaper and 4-7 tsuki wolves can rip you to shreds fairly quickly, so it is good fortune to have a perm. healer just a screen away from the porch. A yamadon and rune beetles live a short distance away to the NW and the sleeping dragon spawn is just a few screens to the west... Great for collecting spined hides there from the Lizerdmen :) But the center of everything is Port Tyr and the keep, was much better when there were 5-6 ZOOGs gathering and we were selling at the NM brokers. Sadly my toons are the only ZOOGs that have logged in over the last 17 months :( LOL not a lot of people want to be a part of a crafter, PvM, POT/BOS and resource gathering guild and there is only so much one person can gather no matter how many accounts they have :( Each of my remaining accounts has a specific purpose The Hate is the Detective, Dragon Food is the all around PvM meat shield, Grand Zoogie is the Lumberjack Swordsman, Koda is the Termur gatherer, Mongbat is the Gardener and now ships captain, Herbert is the Mage/Tamer, Tyrath 1 is the all around crafter, Tyrath 2 is the specialized hive hunter, Tyrath 3 the stealth miner, Tyrath 4 is the classic wayward knight, Tyrath 5 is the T mapper, and Old Sharpie is the luck suit wearing, Salty Peter miner and finally Tyreth is my thief. LOL I try to play each toon in character but contrary to some folks thoughts I don't hide behind my alts :) One thing is for certain I never get bored in UO with so many of these multiple personalities hanging out with me ;)
