Error Updating the Updater?

I recently redownloaded TSO using my original CD. Everytime I enter the game it tells me there's an error updating the updater, lol. When I have it run to check a the installation, it constantly tells me there are updates but when I download the updates, the game crashes to desktop.

Do I just need to uninstall my CD version and download the game online?

Theoretically its ok to use the CD's still, but I hear more and more about issues with it. I think the best bet is just to download it from the website www.ea-land.com.
