I have been pancakes about the new client graphics since the KR graphics got dumped. The new graphics were dirty junk, until right now.
I wiped the hard drive and did a re-install yesterday. Something I do when installing a new firewall & anti-virus setup. I then did the install of the Classic Client completely from the website instead of installing UO:LBR and patching from there and the directX files were installed as part of the process. The Classic Client looked noticably nicer. I left the Enhanced Client patching when I called it a night. Upon getting up during the night, I decided to see how the Enhanced Client looked. Put simply, it looks good. Not flawless, the character & monster graphics still need to be redone. But the background graphics and the game motion are now clear and do look good.
I built my current system probably 8 years ago. AGP was the big video card thing. This is not a new system. It's got a 2.6 ghz P4 processor, a gig of ram, and a Nvidia 6600 GT video card with 256 MB of video ram.
I advise anyone who is having graphics problems with the Enhanced Client to wipe their computers hard drive and do a re-install with UO being the first game installed so it's directX drivers are the ones installed. Then try playing using the Enhanced Client, you may also see a world of difference the way I have.
Either doing the full install from the website instead of patching UO:LBR, or at least having the directX driver set from the UO download is probably what has made the dramatic difference.
Devs, how about making a download that will change a systems directX files entirely to what the UO clients provide? It might solve a lot of player problems with graphics. Might be worth a try.
