Is it still possible to Embrace honour, then Tame high end creatures?

Thanks...

My tame at 101.6 ... so is it still possible to get to 115 with ridgebacks?

Or the new tamables in The gargoyle area?

I don't know really. I used gamans, bulls, scrolls of transcendence, cu-sidhes, scrolls of alacrity, greater dragons, human sacrifices... pretty much anything i could get to reach 120. Most of it was with the guaranteed gain system though.

Anyway my suggestion is to stop at 110, more than that is a waste of precious skill points.

Well, that sounds great but isn't gaining high honour still next to impossible on a tamer?

Gaining Honor on a Tamer is fairly simple and easy. Succubi and Balrons are a very good foe to gain Honor from. I use a Cu Sidhe on the Succubi and gain Honor easily to Knight. There are some nice, quiet spots to hunt both monsters in the Fan Dancer Dojo.

Honor still works. But I'd recommend it more for really crazy taming trips rather than everyday taming of aggressive pets. Or you'll be spending more time working up points than you need to.

If you can, put jewels on to get your taming skill to 120 if you've swallowed a scroll. Or to whatever skill cap you have otherwise. That just helps you tame aggressive pets a wee bit faster.

There's a taming training guide in the FAQ here, but yes, you can still hit 115 with ridegbacks. I would tame a bull to get my GGS gain, then turn over the cu sidhe spawn with my tamer taming then killing cu's. I sold the better coloured pups and looted gold from the killed ones. I figured if I was going to do additional taming training beyond getting my GGS, at least it would be profitable :D

so you say it's easy with these guys and next guy says impossible to knight with same creatures. ??

I have tried ww's in fel, bloods and balrons in ilshenar (w/ occasional paragon) and haven't budged from barely being in 2nd level. I remember trying succubi before and having not much success finding a nice quiet place.

However, I'm starting to wonder if the rules I thought I had to follow are not the case. Here are some other questions. Do you stay still after honoring it or walk up close to it? Do you invis and wait for the monster to target your pet after honoring? Can you peace and/or disco it? Any other things you make sure to do or not to do?

thanks.

Regarding Succubi, there are two spawns in the Fan Dancer Dojo that have very little extra spawn:
- 2nd Level, Large room near end, with one Ronin (lead him away)
- 3rd Level, First Room, with one Deamon (gain off him too)

The Cu Sidhe does not use magic, so that will not count against you. Just Honor the target, tell your pet to kill, and Discord/Peace as much as you want (Barding does not affect virtue gain). At high levels it will still take several Succubi to gain one point, but that common for any creature used to gain the virtue. Succubi are easy prey for a trained Cu Sidhe, just watch out for their AOE Life Leech (they like to switch targets after that).

For Balrons, I use a GD because they are less maintenance.

I don't know why he says they cannot take you to knight.

I said that because since i play balrons and succubi never gave me honor past follower, no matter how close i stay or if i let them damage me first or not.

I tried five minutes ago just to be sure: zero.

[edit: wrong, i do gain too. Now.]

I use succubi on the 2nd level of the Dojo all the time and have no problems gaining honor. Maybe your character is bugged pgib?

Well, i'm starting to think so myself. I thought it might be because i was using a greater dragon but Barry says he does it too so i can't figure out of any other problems. But i can swear it: i gain no honor with balrons and co past follower (unless they are paragon of course).

[edit: perjury! I gain too]

You're bugged I'm afraid. It was Virtue Decay day on Europa today so I took my Cu Sidhe to Fandancer Dojo today and got back to Knight of Honor again earlier. So it's definitely still working as of earlier today. Sorry!

Turns out i committed perjury: i do gain from balrons too. No matter the distance, the pet, if i put it to sleep, if a cast or not. I can even stay hidden. I probably missed the honoring on the last check. Great news for me.

Well, I get a message saying I have gained in honor but I have never seen even 1 dot over follower. I guess I'll try the succubi with my cu. I used to think that I had to stand still after honoring but now I hear that you should be close to target and so it's okay to walk over. Glad to know I can peace em. cheers.
Els

UPDATE: Took cu to dojo. Died multiple times trying to get ronin out of room and separated from succubus (ronin is not peacable). Finally got room all to myself and succubi and I actually gained another dot or two into follower. But, I lost sacrifice as I had to self-rez several times. *sigh* Anyways, it seems to work but sometimes I would honor succubus but then I wouldn't get message that I got honor. I think there is something about being close, or perhaps peace isn't allowed. Or maybe it was invising. Anyways, killed lots and gained fame quick but only got 2 dots. It will be slow for sure but perhaps doable. Now, is it worth it right now when it will just decay??

So I now have 5 dots along my way to knighthood and it's slow going but seems to be working.

I am absolutely 100% certain that you can NOT peace the succubi and still gain honor. At least not today. I was in there and wasn't getting any gain honor messages off the succubi so I tried several things.
1. tried moving closer and still didn't get it
2. tried casting NO spells and still didn't get it
3. tried not peacing the succ and finally got honor.
4. tried not peacing and casting heal and invis spells and still got honor

I have also noticed that if I get killed I almost always get honor when my pet finishes killing off the succ. Probably because I would die when I moved closer (or tried not to run) and didn't manage to get it peaced.

Hmm. I just realized something. I thought I was getting honor yesterday even when I peaced and I just realized that I think I just switched to a demon slayer instrument because I was failing my peaces too often. So maybe barding is okay as long as you don't use a slayer? I'll switch back to an exceptional instrument and give it another try.

But man, this would be sucking up ALL of my sacrifice to get if it weren't for the fact that I also have spellweaving. I use gift of life and when I get killed I just wait for cu to finish the succ off and then I accept the self-rez. Occasionally I get unlucky and die just after gift wears off or when I've forgotten to put it back on and then I have to either use my sacrifice or run all the way back to entrance for the healer and all the way back hopefully before my pet dies. I have done this as I keep an ethy on my body.

If you can, soulstone off Peace for Discord. Discord will reduce the succubi's skills and resists, making it easy prey for your Cu.

Also, since you are having trouble with the ronin, continue further into the dungeon to the first room of the third level. It is also a large room, but spawns a succubus and a daemon. Both are bardable and easy prey for a trained Cu.

Your other option would be to pull the ronin down into the next corridor and leaving yourself the succubus on her own and the corridor you came into clear if you need to retreat.

I'd agree with Barry, disco is the best option for succubi, send in your pet once the fight starts and retreat back, land an invis on yourself (an invis>target self macro is really useful here :D) then go close enough to keep an eye on your cu, but not within range of her area effect. I used swords of prosp. for succubus hunts. Then if she tried to attack me when I stepped in to vet, at least I gave her a good stabbing for it lol.
