Sitting on the side of her bed, Dawn brushed the damp hair from her face. Yet another dream had awoken her. She couldn’t remember what she had been dreaming about, only that it was unsettling.
”Why am I not sleeping?” she asked the tiny bundle of fur peeking from under her night table, ”What’s wrong with me?”
Sherry gave a small squeak and wiggled her whiskers in a sign of not understanding either.
Getting up, Dawn walked over and pushed the curtains aside. Looking out into the night, her brow furrowed into a frown, she tried to remember what she had dreamed about. Faint dark circles lay under her eyes, attesting the fact that her slumber was troubled.
“It’s no use, I can’t remember. I need to find out what's causing this. I’ve never had this much trouble sleeping before” she sighed. ”I feel so odd when I awake. It’s almost as something is entering my dreams for real, telling me things.”
Looking out into the city, Dawn noticed more activity than normal out in the city. “Perhaps others are having the same problem as I am, Sherry. They are having the dreams and can’t sleep as well.” she said.
Walking back to her bed, Dawn had a sudden thought. ”I shall ask the citizens to help find a special potion. If they are having the same problems sleeping as I am, then we are all in need of it.”
Instead of climbing back in bed, Dawn went to her study. Here along the great wall were books of all manner. Running her hand down the line of books, she searched for one in particular.
“Ah! Here it is!” she said as she pulled the book from the shelf. Sitting at the massive desk, she opened the book and started turning pages, running her finger down the pages as she looked.
After several moments her eyes lit up and a small smile turned up the corners of her mouth.
”I knew it was here, just what we need! A potion for unsettling thoughts and sleeplessness! A Compassion Sage Potion. Who would have thought this old book of potions would ever come in handy!” she said.
Reading the old scripted text, she learned that the potion could only be found on one certain creature.
“A Compassion Sage potion, allows the taker of it a dreamless solid sleep. Captures any and all dreams and renders them harmless. Gives Compassion once a day as needed.” she read.
“Just what we need Sherry!” she said to the small mouse who had climbed up beside the book peering at the pages along with her. Dawn gathered her quill and parchment and started penning a note for the town criers to deliver a message to the citizens to meet with her so she could tell them the good news and hopes that all would soon be able to have a good nights rest…
