Greetings everyone. I wanted to give a little update on the Origin Event Moderator Website. First, however, it seems I may owe an apology.
Some of you may not know this but Origin had the very first Event Moderator Website, before the creation of uoem.net. It was a trial run to see if the websites would be something the players would be interested in and that would help us communicate more. At the time, we did not have the EM forums here on Stratics either so we were always looking for ways to get the word out about events and communicate with our players.
Once the Origin website proved to be valuable, uoem.net came into being as a way for all the EM's to have access to web hosting and creating websites for each shard. As we already had a website in place, we made the decision not to move it to the uoem.net umbrella.
We undertook a publicity campaign for the Origin site that continues to this day. We talk about the website at every Q&A session, we had Mesanna post us a bright, bubblegum pink sign at Luna bank with the website information and, when necessary, we put the website link on the event lanterns we place or on the Event Announcers. We monitor the traffic on the site and we enabled an RSS feed a while back for those that want to get updates when we post something new. There is also a sticky in the main Origin forum here on Stratics that has all of our contact information including a link to the site.
I have to admit, until yesterday, it never crossed my mind that anyone would look for us on origin.uoem.net. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't even aware we had a subdomain there! That's completely my fault for not checking and thus, my apology.
I'm truly sorry if anyone has been unable to find our site. I got in touch with the admin last night and got my access set for the uoem.net site. I've posted a redirect page so that, in the future, should anyone go there looking for us, they will see a page redirecting them to the correct site. Like I said, since we've been in the same place for almost two years now, it simply never occurred to me to check on the uoem.net site but I apologize deeply if anyone was ever confused.
Now, as to the update. This weekend I will be applying a software update for the program that drives our website. It's been needed for a few months now but finding time to do it has been a problem. Especially since every time I update the software, something goes a little off course and it winds up taking 10 times longer than forecast. This usually results in what Buzz lovingly refers to as "the white screen of wth?" (as opposed to the blue screen of death).
So, if you try to access the site this weekend and find it offline, just know that I'm on the backend taking a sledgehammer to it and it will be back up and running as quickly as possible.
