Greetings everyone. I wanted to give a little update on the Origin Event Moderator Website. First, however, it seems I may owe an apology.

Some of you may not know this but Origin had the very first Event Moderator Website, before the creation of uoem.net. It was a trial run to see if the websites would be something the players would be interested in and that would help us communicate more. At the time, we did not have the EM forums here on Stratics either so we were always looking for ways to get the word out about events and communicate with our players.

Once the Origin website proved to be valuable, uoem.net came into being as a way for all the EM's to have access to web hosting and creating websites for each shard. As we already had a website in place, we made the decision not to move it to the uoem.net umbrella.

We undertook a publicity campaign for the Origin site that continues to this day. We talk about the website at every Q&A session, we had Mesanna post us a bright, bubblegum pink sign at Luna bank with the website information and, when necessary, we put the website link on the event lanterns we place or on the Event Announcers. We monitor the traffic on the site and we enabled an RSS feed a while back for those that want to get updates when we post something new. There is also a sticky in the main Origin forum here on Stratics that has all of our contact information including a link to the site.

I have to admit, until yesterday, it never crossed my mind that anyone would look for us on origin.uoem.net. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't even aware we had a subdomain there! That's completely my fault for not checking and thus, my apology.

I'm truly sorry if anyone has been unable to find our site. I got in touch with the admin last night and got my access set for the uoem.net site. I've posted a redirect page so that, in the future, should anyone go there looking for us, they will see a page redirecting them to the correct site. Like I said, since we've been in the same place for almost two years now, it simply never occurred to me to check on the uoem.net site but I apologize deeply if anyone was ever confused.

Now, as to the update. This weekend I will be applying a software update for the program that drives our website. It's been needed for a few months now but finding time to do it has been a problem. Especially since every time I update the software, something goes a little off course and it winds up taking 10 times longer than forecast. This usually results in what Buzz lovingly refers to as "the white screen of wth?" (as opposed to the blue screen of death).

So, if you try to access the site this weekend and find it offline, just know that I'm on the backend taking a sledgehammer to it and it will be back up and running as quickly as possible. :gee:

Alrighty, after a few "gentle" pokes with the sledge hammer, the site seems to be back up and working, properly for the most part. Buzz and I ran through some tests on various features and they all seem ok. However, if anyone is connecting to the RSS feed and has any problems with it, please let me know ASAP. I had to upgrade a few additional things since that wanted to be stubborn. Our tests show it's working again but let us know if not.

Also, I added one thing. If you check out the site, you'll notice an "Upcoming Events" box just above the Calendar. Let us know what you think of that. I'm still not sure if we'll keep both or not.

And now I think it's time to go do this --> :shots:

Well, they say no good deed goes unpunished. Apparently, it took a couple of days but the update to the theme for the website completely crashed the whole site to the point I had to call for tech support to the hosting provider and they had to remove the theme completely from the backend. For tonight, there is an ugly default theme with no calendar, etc. But at least the site is back and it appears no data was lost.

I will work on getting it formatted tomorrow night. Unfortunately, the theme also took out the update I applied to the backend software so that has to be redone as well. Please be patient and we'll get it back fully functional as quickly as possible. In the meantime, keep an eye here on Stratics. We'll post on what is currently the EM site as well but I'm not sure at this point if the RSS feed is working or not. :cursing:

Alright, I think/hope/pray that I've finally beaten the website into submission and managed to tame it. We'll see if it decides to eat itself again over the next couple of days. I swear it's been worse than trying to tame a rune beetle to get this thing to cooperate.

Provided everything stays functioning, you will begin to notice a new feature here in the Stratics EM Forum called the Origin EM Feed. Petra has kindly linked our RSS Feed here so that we can post one time on the EM site and it will cross post itself for us. Thank you Petra!

I know that the feed is currently working because there are a couple of old posts that came across. Petra will clean those up for us and anything else should come over new.

If you are interested in subscribing to the RSS Feed, the link is UO - Origin Events or you can subscribe directly through the site. You'll see an option for RSS Entries in the Meta section just below the Events Calendar.

I still have a couple more things to tweak but HOPEFULLY they are small things that won't break the site again. Here's crossing my fingers!
