Should there be any distinction between players knowing and participating in an event's storyline as opposed to players(cross sharders included)just there for the possibility of a drop?

I say there should be no distinction at all.

The majority of the cross sharders are there just to make gold and the majority of the storyliners are there just to fawn all over the EM's. It works for all.

IMO a shard's history is and should be comprised of the longtime players and their different personalities. Not dusty pixels that are hoarded away in banks or over decorated houses

id say its more like one third of cross sharders are there purely to get / sell the item. to most rares collectors who attend events, and have been playing multiple shards for years, the story behind the item actually adds value. Crap items with no story usually arent worth much unless there a crazy color or something. (did i mention i dislike mesanna items for specifally this reason? No lore. No story. pixel crack pure and simple) However an item with a great, lore-rich story can be unremarkable in color/size yet still be very desirable specifically because of the lore / story.

back to your original discussion, although i do think the majority of people at events appreciate the story at least to some extent, NO there is nothing wrong with players going simply to have a chance at a high value item, which they can sell to enhance there gameplay in pvp, deco, or buy anything else that might make UO more enjoyable.

Shunning players who "just go for the item" would be like saying its wrong to just do peerless to sell the items. Which is what the majority of players do. They dont care about the lore of why the peerless is there, the story behind it, most are probably unaware there even is one.

So while myself, and many players do value the story by all means events are for everyone to enjoy. and if all they enjoy is the item/gold value, then thats perfectly fine.

Personally, i couldnt imagine sitting thru events just waiting for the boss. I suppose you could go afk. Ill admit i do this in some cases when the story is just overwelming / extremely boring. But i do play over 10 shards for events. I usually can find 4 or 5 storylines that i really like and be sure to pay careful attention to those. Others i enjoy, but not the end of the world if i miss something or only get the general gist of the plotline.

I have no problem with cross sharders, per se. It is the people that are there, whether they are locals or cross sharders, that are constantly asking: when the fighting will be or when can they get their drop, constantly casting during the RP portion or trying to buy and sell items (this can be done in the general chat channel). Unfortunately the majority of these things are done by the cross sharders, so that tends to give them all a bad name, though I will admit, not all of them do this.

Here is my opinion on this idea of "Your a x-sharder you should be banned and not allowed to participate in OUR event!" I pay the same subscription fee as you, if I want to use my time doing nothing but events to get drops and sell them then who are you to tell me I can't do this and ban me from "Your" event? If you want to play that game the fine, players should only be allowed to use the resources and items on their home shard. Why should someone who plays on Europa be allowed to buy and sell on my home shard of Atlantic? Stop taking all my resources and items!! As I said I pay the same subscription fee as everyone else, stop trying to force your game play and beliefs on me.

Characters are loyal to a city. Accounts should be shard loyal. Play all that shards you want. Import and export. Anyone earning an event drop on a shard their account is not loyal to. Item gets ported to the Abyss garbage heep. Or sits in limbo as the next reward drop for anyone killing paragons or abyss mini champs.

Wasn't there talk about event items being shard bound? Or was that a future to do list thing?
