to be honest I think this might turn out to be a blessing.
I take it that existing characters on Siege will be able to log in with EJ. I doubt that many returning prodo players would come to Siege...they would most likely stick to their original shards. If players want to play Siege using EJ without an existing Siege char they would have to subscribe for a month and then wait 120 days until they could access that character. The good thing about this is that this will prevent EJ accounts being abused on Siege for scripting or whatever other purpose the devs didn't see before...

I saw EJ as a great opportunity for RP accounts, especially with only having 1 character here.
That will be interesting to see if you subscribe for a month and become EJ, will Siege be accessible? I have a feeling it won't be, but no way to test that at the moment.
From the restrictions I almost wonder if they took the old "young" status as a base-mark and built off that.

but I had the opposite reaction when reading the limitations and seeing no EJ accounts on Siege Perilous ~
I hope we will see EJ accounts on Siege, just not newly created ones...that way it would still be a way to have more returning players...

I think EJ is a mixture of the free trial, young status, and Return to Brit systems. I agree, I was really hoping for a boost not just in RP but also PvP cuz that tends to boost everything else. The announcement says these rules are not carved in stone, so I posted a poll here Poll and Discuss: Do we want EJ on Siege?
There was something about paying for a bank box (I assume paying an NPC). When the bank box fee is not renewed, then the vault's contents go up for auction - Storage Wars style lol. This is almost certainly to prevent hoarders from just creating free storage accounts. Interesting that EJ cannot place/rent a vendor, but there seems to be no restrictions on setting up a NM stall once they've paid for that access - except that they cannot use com deeds. They'd have to make a friend or use a main paid account after withdrawing the items if they used their stall for resource storage. Also, it says nothing about restricting access to or use of ships - including the hold.
Edit: Just tested ships. An EJ account with High Seas cannot place a ship, but they can board one and use the hold. They can even drydock it, if they are made captain - but cannot place it back on the water. So an EJ can use a ship for storage, but they need a subscribed account to place it for them.

This is like a really small step towards what I wanted UO to one day be when it caught up to the rest of gaming world. F2P with ala-cart options or a monthly sub for it all. But these restrictions are just a little too restraining. Especially for vets that want to return. Meh. We'll see how it goes.
I don't think the EJ limitations are that bad. Housing (especially) is one of the really awesome things about UO, I understand why they would almost completely restrict that for EJ Accounts. Paying for a bank vault seems relatively decent, forces people to be somewhat active, which them probably allows Broadsword to say we have x amount of active accounts. Kind sucks that it doesn't get auctioned, but I imagine you could pick up a beetle, put everything on it and log when you're going to take a UO break.
EJ Accounts are getting 720 skills, can use power scrolls, alacrity & trans all of which I didn't think would happen, I figured they'd lock it at 700 and GM skills, so that's really pretty solid. EJ isn't supposed to be come play UO for free with everything a paid account would have, it's supposed to entice newer & returning playing to get hooked and pickup a paid account. From what I've seen from the limitations I think it's rather generous.

as far as I know these things are not set in stone yet, so people might be able to make a case for changing certain aspects. probably best to voice your opinons on the official UO forums
Don't you need an active account to log onto the Official forums? I haven't had a paying account for around 3+ years. I found a spot with more events, content and players. But once in awhile I miss me some Siege Perilous. Never know, could always get hooked back onto the shard again.

Guess I'll stop folding my tent. Might be buying more gametime in a couple months if this happens.
