And the results...
Cerulean vs Jim
Cerulean's seen the arena once or twice, but Jim was a total newcomer making his debut this evening. Both very equal in skills and stats, we suspect a quick but close match, and the two duly obliged. Jim got off to a fast start, rushing across to land the first blows, but Cerulean stood her ground well and fought back, slowly turning the fight in her favour until she got a very close victory.
Lightning vs Frosty
Tough finding a match for Lightning, very strong inded and fully trained, but Frosty seemed a fair opponent from the evening's fighters, and these two faced up to each other again. Lightning got stuck in first, and Frosty took quite a few heavy hiys before getting into her stride and fighting back well. I thought Lightning's early lead was going to prove decisive, but Frosty had other plans and continued pushing back until they were both level, then Frosty started building a lead! Lightning must have been as thrown as I was by Frosty's determination, and could not hold up against such a stubborn fighter, the result being a very hard fought and rather surprising win for Frosty.
Geeko vs Nugget
Geeko set off against veteran Nugget, the two are almost identical in stats and skills, so it promissd an interesting bout. Intriguingly, both these two are highest in intelligence, so amaybe a tactical match was ahead! At first they seemed evenly matched, but then I made a huge mistake in the commentary, and said Nugget was doing well... an as usual my support for a bird is the kiss of death, she immediately went into decline and Geeko hammered in, getting a decisive victory on his first match!
Bob vs Sunshine
Another new face (beak?) in the ring, Bob came in to fight Sunshine, a very bright yellow bird who was an almost twin for Bob's skills and abilities. As almst always happens with new birds in the ring, they proceeded to give us an incredibly close fight - Sunshine seemed the more athletic, leaping up and down a lot, but Bob was more focussed on the match and despite both birds being almost totally redlined at the end, Bob got the final hits and a very well won victory
Sky vs Nin
Sky's been in the ring a few times more than Nin, but both know their way around well, and both are very capable fighters. In an evening of close matches though, this was one that went right to the wire, both hitting hard and blocking well. There was nothing between the two all the way to the finish, and by the end it was down to one hit to decide the winner - and it went to a much slowed but still determined Sky, who won with 2hp left to her name!
For out novelty fight - another test of 'pack instinct', the hellhoundteam were back to try their luck on new meat after finishing off a bane dragon in some style on their last appearance. This time, we had a bigger bird than the usual chickens, a supposedly Greater Hiryu - I say supposedly as if you look at his stats, he's actually fairly average for a lesser hiryu, and woefully weak for a greater! However, he still hits very hard indeed, the the pack found out rapidly. They went in as a group, and began well, but the hiryu got it perfectly right, hitting a hound twice to kill it and instantly moving on to the next target - the bane died from not concentrating hard enough on quick kills, but the hiryu knew better and came out clear winner, albeit with half health and some very chewed and singed freathers. High fire resist helped a lot, but speed of cutting down the opponents numbers was the main factor.
So now - with two matches to go, the league looks like this :
7 : Lightning, Quicksilver, Sky
5 : PeckyBalboa, Tea,
3 : Trinsic Rose
2 : Trinsic Steel, TwoTimeChampion, Sapphie, Cerulean, Frosty, Geeko
1 : Old Blue Eyes, Bernie, Nari, Roadrunner Two, Dryad, Goldy Feathers, Spot, Yin, Protagonist, Linnea, Bob.
Looking to be a three way contest, interesting end for the season!
Next match should be Saturday, 19th Feb, as ever at the O*T Arena in Zento! Hope you can join us.
