East Coast Issues

Another armchair tech

Look - it is not a problem with MY modem.
I would call this armchair logic...

Just because YOU don't see a problem doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

Anyway I would suggest all those who are seeing lag to see if you can "test drive" another ISP to see if the problem exists.

I personally do not connect to the Washington DC server so I do not suffer this connection issue. I am wondering if there are any plans to resolve this matter currently. As it stands I know a good number of people who will be deactivating there accounts soon unless this is taken care of.

So EA, whats the gameplan?
EA's gameplan is to not say a damn word. No EA people have posted in any of the numerous threads dealing with this problem. They know about it and my guess is it might cost money to fix it and we all know that is not going to happen. So they give us the big middle finger as usual. I would not expect anything less from EA. They are a joke of a company and there is no surprise they will be going under soon. So I ping 140 while speedhackers dance around me. Awesome, great way to spend my money.

I've had this exact same issue, super, ridiculously detailed, and submit to EA tech support on 8/16/09. And they never found a solution, last response was a month ago saying they thought it was a shard problem and didn't know what to do from there.... I can look at my f'in traceroute and know its not a shard problem lol

Yup, i feel your pain.

Just move the whole damn server farm to a new host that knows what they are doing.

UO in the Amazon Cloud FTW

Bad as I hate to jump in here, and be in the line of the fire. to those that are saying it is a Modem problem, it has been shown/stated that its east coast only. ie the east coast is pinging higher than the west coast for us east coast people. If it was the modem all shards would have heavy lag, not just half.

Someone gets it at least....

I know FalseProfit that it is just simple deduction, but that is beyond most folks here it seems.

Some parts of the day I actually ping better to Europe than I do Great Lakes and I live in Chicago.

This should only affect GL, LS, and Siege. Those three sit in the same location on the east coast.

It really sucks for me, playing from San Jose and running all the way X-country to the Siege rack. I feel more pain than some :(

I live about an hour from Mythic in Fairfax - about 30 minutes from DC. I've been suffering terrible lag for the past month or so. :(

So yeah, I'm in agreement that there is a recently change and that it is a problem.

I FOUND A FIX!!!!!! I didn't log in last night, no lag. If they don't fix it soon it will happen every night and they won't be getting any money for it.

Fairfax is such a nice place....

Anyway the internet works similar to roads.
The problem is roads are generally owned by the government and are basically public

The internet is owned privately. Tier-1 ISP have their own lines and your traffic from your ISP must travel on their roads before going out to someone else's. Then when your traffic needs to hit another ISP, it has to go through their roads. Your traffic will continue to go through private roadways until your traffic hit's EA's network. It's a concept called Autonomous systems.

So you can live 1 hour from EA Mythic, but you're traffic can go all the way across the country and back before hitting EA's network. SO in going through all these excessive serial and fiber optic lines , there could be all sorts of configuration issues between your ISP and EA.

Personally I don't see an FIX for this problem. Your best bet is to do a traceroute and see what ISP is directly connected to EA and see if you can get an account with them...

Either that or try another ISP for a trial period and check latency while playing the game

I live on the west coast and play east coast shards and rarely experience lag issues. I am on 10 meg DSL and some months ago I experienced some lag issues, but they've cleared up (it was my ISP) and now I run the same ping pretty consistently.
As a side note, the guy who came to my house to diagnose the issues told me that part of the problem were old and no longer used "bridges" in the lines a few blocks from my house and they needed to be removed to make the transfer of data smoother but that this kind of project was a low priority for any ISP so not to count on it happening for several months. The other problem is that I am near the range limit for the DSL transfer station, but moving isn't an option right now, lol.
