I live about an hour from Mythic in Fairfax - about 30 minutes from DC. I've been suffering terrible lag for the past month or so.
So yeah, I'm in agreement that there is a recently change and that it is a problem.
Fairfax is such a nice place....
Anyway the internet works similar to roads.
The problem is roads are generally owned by the government and are basically public
The internet is owned privately. Tier-1 ISP have their own lines and your traffic from your ISP must travel on their roads before going out to someone else's. Then when your traffic needs to hit another ISP, it has to go through their roads. Your traffic will continue to go through private roadways until your traffic hit's EA's network. It's a concept called Autonomous systems.
So you can live 1 hour from EA Mythic, but you're traffic can go all the way across the country and back before hitting EA's network. SO in going through all these excessive serial and fiber optic lines , there could be all sorts of configuration issues between your ISP and EA.
Personally I don't see an FIX for this problem. Your best bet is to do a traceroute and see what ISP is directly connected to EA and see if you can get an account with them...
Either that or try another ISP for a trial period and check latency while playing the game
