SInce we seem to be building an economy based on the principles of capitalism why don't we also make one based on the idea of communism?

EA-Land has the potential of becoming a great economic learning tool and if there was a city dedicated to being a communism economy, we would be able to see the effects of that on supply and demand, etc

Communism doesn't work in real life.

What makes you think it would work in Sim life?

It probably wouldn't work, but I would just love to see how everything turns out in the game as opposed to rl. B/c in communism, you wouldn't be able to bot

Yes I have, in fact I think the black market is a really really terrible thing. But unless Sim's body organs are worth much then I don't see how a black market would work out, because we would all be getting paid the same amount?

This is more complicated than it sounds. For some, communism is not just an economic system. Some problems might arise. Not to forget that it would be a great deal of work for the developers in order to plan and determine the supply and goods needed by the population and the quantity required.

ROFL Jackiee! Me neither - even then, if you're lucky enough to get some, it's about as soft as sandpaper lol...

I had posted the following on another thread a couple weeks back:

"...Funny thing is - the whole idea of ATMs in the game is not exactly conducive to the so-called Social Market Economy philosophy now, is it?

The following is from the Wiki:

What is truly wrong with our current TSO economy is that the middle class has been eliminated. Ironic, that's what's wrong with the United States economy. In this virtual world there is either the have's or the have not's.

[/ QUOTE ]
So, does that mean that we should be living like post-Revolutionary Bolshevik Dr. Zhivago sims? No thanks lol..."

We're already living a variation of socialism in EA Land lol...

Socialism: Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy...

It would never work. Not only would it be almost impossible to program the game and force players to go by the communism idea. The Idea its self is terrible, I don't know if you have learned much about the RL communism governments but they are terrible money & power hungry people.

It could/would anger players... (I know I would)

What is their to supply & demand we have endless AFK stores stocked with all the things that most people want and CC is being constantly supplied.

Sim Tripps describes EALands economy quite well, along with the communist regimes idea of an economy.
along with...
inflation: noun: a general and progressive increase in prices (Example: "In inflation everything gets more valuable except money")
So guess where this leads to concerning the "buyback".

Before suggesting Communism know what Communism is.

If TSO were communist there would be no incentive to play. Everyone would have the same amount of simoleans, everyone's skills would be at an equal level, everyone would have the same number of Mystic Trees, etc.

People play games to get better. For instance, people play WoW to get a higher level. This isn't Animal Crossing - it's an MMORPG which entices people to build their skill set (whatever it may be) as time goes on.

I'm guessing you're going to depend on everyone putting in an equal effort to help the game since that's what Communism depends on. As this is a problem in real life, it's a bigger problem in virtual life where people log in and out depending on their personal preference.

Communism looks good on paper, but never works.

I wouldn't call communism terrible. Theoretically communism is one of the best government forms (though I prefer despotism lead by brilliant people hehe). Unfortunately the nature of man is such that it will never work in real life as power corrupts

And indeed, a game is not only about having fun, but also all about competition. Communism eliminates competition, and thus the incentive to play.

I know what communism is, I think it's a terrific economic system. I don't know what the [censored] it is about with the WoW chitter chatter, but imo the economic issues we have today would be eliminated.

This is a great idea! Give each city something unique!

Communism isnt 'evil' and it IS possible for communism to work in rl. Just no one was able to make it work that way Karl Marx intended it to.

Maybe have a different economy in each 'city'. This will be great for those who want to try new things.

Communism: A system of political and economic organization in which property is owned by the state or community and all citizens share in the common wealth, more or less according to their need.

Do I want my sims living in a Marxist regime as a New Radical Left-ie? Hmmmm... don't think so lol... You people are scaring me lol...

I want to play in the city where you start with a gazillion simoleons, and I pay $52 for each solution I solve, and where pet dogs cost less then $100,000.

lol, I'm saying just put it in one city like JP or DC. A city where people dont go.

Charvatia- Current Economy
DC - Communist Economy
JP - Sandbox aka Rosebud unlimited

etc., Give people the choice to do what they want.

Wow Sean - you've hit on a really incredible idea! Although, it could have been possibly implemented when the cities and servers were separate, but now, with all the cities merging together into one big Leninist family, it would be a no go lol...

I think it would still be possible. We already see that DC's economy isnt the same as the others. That could've been overlooked or on purpose.

You think communism is a terrific economic system? You're obviously misinformed. Why do you think the Soviet Union fell? Do you see the citizens of North Korea and Cuba living joyous lives full of a wide supply of food and a voice in their government? Oh yeah, you don't...

China is only communist by name, they hardly meet the criteria for a communist government - which is why they're economically successful, but also realize that most of their people are mired in poverty.

The way communism is today is the closest to communism you'll ever get. You're right - it didn't work as he intended it to, and it never will.

A government with no competition promotes nothing; there's no incentive to work and in an MMORPG there's no incentive to play.

Buzz, you're getting communism (a state of social utopia) confused with socialism (a state of complete dependence on the government). No country has attained communism. China is a socialist country experimenting with certain forms of capitalism.

I do find it funny we're even having this conversation. We've definitely come a long way since McCarthy was in Senate...

Obviously you could test it out, but it would be pointless to waste an entire test on something that everyone knows won't work.

Do you play games without points or something to achieve? No, you don't. The entire point of a game (an online one, anyway) is to gain skill as you progress. If you want to be on the same playing field as someone who just started after four years of playing we might as well eliminate money objects and skill items and make TSO a virtual chat room.

Communism was intended to achieve a social utopia, but that's not possible, nor has any country come close, which is why Communism is dying out.

The goal for communism is everyone getting what there need and basically entails the same salary for every person.
