Dye Tubs and colors (dreams)

Is there an actual answer on why we cannot have Runebook dye tubs or Leather dye tubs, dye clothing and books pretty colors? I really dislike thoes metal colors they are awful!

People complained about tokouno dyes being too bright now they nerfed thoes and we got thoes ugly metal colors again as a turn in!

Why would it be such a concern to change them? People complain about alot of things in game. I think colors are really neat!

Now look for a Leather dye tub that dyes pretty colors and its worth millions so there has to be some significance behind all this.

Bring back pretty colors
Whos with me!?

You may not like the colors but should you be allowed to tell others who pay money to play the game as they see fit what they can and cannot have?

I hate dryad green with a passion but should it be removed from the game because i dislike it? If you like running around in the game with neon puke green gear go for it after all everyone deserves the right to play this game how they see fit for their money.

I would like to see more options such as new colors for changing how my character looks. In all reality the runebook dye tubs should have used the normal color picker vs the current one it is a 4th year reward and yet they limited the colors to a hand full of dull crap ones. And on an item that is usually more of a personal object kept in your pack or house.

Leather dye tubs I understand also but why did furniture get neon colors vs normal resource colors? There is also the special dye tubs which I find nothing special about these days.

I want a tokuno dyes clothing tub!

Put it this way, if we could switch on and off the neons in our display I'd say "knock yourself out" and nuke it from my display. But I can't. Silly colours detract badly from the medieval RP look that I love about UO.

It's not just about disliking colours, some of the old ToT dyes could look good if not overdone. Even the odd brighter one is ok in the right hands. But like all things in UO, some folks just go that extra mile in bad taste. These people need a little protection from themselves so the rest of us can walk the streets of Britannia without fearing the neon blaze cu man, who even naked probably resembles C-3PO.

Games all have their "look" and IMO blaze doesn't fit in UO. EA saw sense in the last round of ToT in my view and I hope that continues. There are plenty of colours in UO already, we don't need things like fuscia coloured plate armour or lime green studded suits.

I'm with you. I don't get why leather backpacks and leather thigh boots can be dyed with regular clothing dye tubs (aka pretty colors) but yet you have to use a leather engraving tool on the backpacks. i guess i should be happy they allow us to dye them pretty colors. but i would love a dye tub that dyed leather and rune books the colors available on a normal dye tub like what you buy at an NPC tailor.

Those super bright colors were a bit too much. I kind of liked many of the second round of Tokuno dyes.

Well look at all the lady M hair colors Glacial and Blaze? And how bout those pants, bandanna (illegal) that were made as well? Gold sashes and clothing! Some are really cute and yet some say they are ugly. Yet they are worth $$$.

Same goes for that neon leather dye tub. If someone thought it wasn't that great then why would they sell at such a high price?

Please give us a regular color runebook dye tub please devs!!!
Or an extra old trade in for old toko dyes
yay

UO should offer a choice in the setup for "Classic" colors.

Anyone who sets the "Classic" button would see all Fire Steed, Neon anything, or other garish colors as grey.....

An even better way would be to let each person choose what colors to set to grey using a pallat system.

If EA sold a token on the UO store for this option, I would pay $20.00 just to have this ability......

i look at it this way, i hate alot of colors in uo, but i cant walk into a mall and start pancakes about the colors people choose to wear and not get arrested for harrasment. nor is this behavior going to get me anywhere.

uo has no fasion police

lets keep our colors some have grown to love

and lets stop pancakes, get the contrast on your monitor to show all black and white, and get over it

How much have you looked into medieval times? You do realise that there were plenty of people (albeit mostly entertainers) wore elaborate coloured clothing even those in the royal house did!!
The way you've spoken there it's like you envison us to all be wearing dirty rags like commoners.
Did you ever stop to think that some people want to dress as royaly or as jesters/entertainers? Or just want to have something lairy on as not to blend in with the cobblestones beneath us??

Wenchy that is a great idea. Maybe have a color switch. I cant stand the painful neons and clashes.

A dye tub of sickening colors for the glowing gang is fine, If i can switch the use of the tub off and anything dyed with it would show up as simply gray. Id say knock yourself out.

Neon wasnt around. Royal Purple was deemed royal cause it was so damn expensive. Indigo nice. Reds around. Like someone said veggie dyes etc. They had color but not...

LIME, BLAZE, Canary Yellow, Electric blue.

Sure they could clash as much as players do back then too, but the tubs werent all that back in the those times.

Sorry but blaze makes people cry. You do realize how famously popular the second set of tokuno dyes are don't you? If anything that should prove how silly the first round of colors were.

...now where did I leave my sarcasm tag.......

Im not going to argue that they aren't popular with the right people, but I've met way more people since the second event cursing about them rather than praising them. I still see more people wearing TOK 1 event colors vs TOK 2 event colors.

I don't particularly care if we have exagerated colors in the game because to me, it brings a little life to the game. The problem is it was brought into the game in an over abundance. I can't stand looking at dull colors all the time, but yet I can't stand looking at blinding characters either.

Well, there were limited dyes in the old days, and as someone who has umpteen books about natural plant based dyes, you don't get blaze naturally
Of course some fabrics take up dye more vibrantly than others - a hank of wool won't end up as bright as a hank of mohair would for example.

If you took the same dyes used on clothing and applied them to leather, I doubt they'd remain as vibrant. If the leather was white, fair enough, but a lot of white animals have grey skin under the fluff, so you'd be over-dyeing upon the existing colours. I haven't dyed leather but applying the same theories from fibre dying, that's how it'd work

There are beautiful sumptuous colours already in UO. Look at the gorgeous deep red and purple reward cloth for example. Those ooze luxury. All we're missing is the beading over the bodice and gold trims.

You can create rich textures and colours in clothing without resorting to blaze and luna white. I RP a few gypsy chars and they are never limited for colourful clothing, but I'll avoid the eye popper neons because mixing a few of those often results in a clown suit

We have a huge palette available to us in UO, I really don't see the need for more.

If only the OP and the majority of the players felt that way. The facts remain that those bright colors you don't see a need for are very much sought after by many other UO players.

In all of my UO travels I have only ran into 1 person, in game, that had a problem with the tokuno colors. Aside from these boards the sentiment is they are favored.

I'm not sure how you feel qualified to speak for the majority of players. I don't see the majority of players I meet dressed in ugly colours, so I'm a rather sceptical of your claims.

So simply by looking you can tell who wants more dyes? :p Please don't quote how many of your friends say the same as you, because those of us who don't like neon also have similarly minded friends, and this discussion could get a bit silly.

But hey, knock yourselves out. See how neon you can make UO. At least in Fel the neons have a purpose. They're very easy to target

If neon is not liked by the majority explain the popularity of the old tokuno dyes compared to the new ones. Show me a vendor that sells the new colors and then tell me how many times you see people buying those colors at the bank. The argument is silly to be sure.

[/ QUOTE ]Availability is a factor.

Consider: 50 charges per Old Style Tok Dyes versus 1 shot deal with the New Style Tok Dyes.

Finding sufficient New Style Tok Dyes to complete an ensemble plus tasteful accent(s) is difficult.

The major dyes from TOK 2 had 10 uses and were all natural ore based colors. Kind of lame if you ask me. We could have a metal dye tub to please our needs of those colors.

Exactly

Had the latest dyes been the ones we got first, I'm sure they'd have been met more warmly. Some folks expected more neons and didn't get them, and the charges were down to 10 which was another annoyance. Especially when the spawn rates went down (at least I'm sure I remember a downward tweak LOL).

I don't think the 10 charge majors were seen as worth it in comparison to the other major rewards either. Personally, I just got the other majors I'd wanted first time round, because 10 charges didn't make the new dies really worth 10 minors. That and I just came back from a UO break for the last couple of days
I'd have got more if I'd had time. The others were clearly more valuable to sell too.

[/ QUOTE ]I am BEYOND sick to death of this ludicrous argument. Is there some ludicrous idea spreading around the world that bright colors did not exist in medieval times?

Good lord, people.

If you don't like a color, DON'T WEAR IT.

If someone's wearing a color you don't like, MAKE FUN OF THEM.

But don't use some half-baked excuse that bright colors didn't exist in medieval times.

It's untrue, and EA's kowtowing to that during the last ToT was sad, pathetic, and ultimately damaging to their credibility.

Not to mention we're playing a game in present day reallity.. This isn't the medieval times and we shouldn't be limited to medieval choices. Its a fantasy game. If it has dragons, magic and what not.. why can't it also have color?

So as stated in my last posts, illegal leather dye tubs and Runebook dye tubs that dye regular colors are worth millions and as for Toko dyes at 50 shots go for around 6-7 mil a bottle. My point here is if there wasnt such a demand for it why is it that people charge such an extravagant amount of gold for these items?

Therefore the comments that came from the people who felt the colors were unacceptable or distasteful are null. I like the idea of the token (trade in for a dyetub that dyes the colors asked about) I would definately buy one or two.

And as for rennisance having color...At that era yes there was plenty of bright purples, blues, greens you name it. Runebook dye tubs Id say should be reverted first because technically no one really sees it other than the player so why not throw in something a little special. And as far as the leather goes why not make a monster that drops a bottle of leather colored dye with 10-20 shots in it (pretty colors) like Lady M with the haircolors! That would be fun!! (Thats if leather dye tubs wouldnt be reverted).

Whatcha think?

As someone who has umpteen books about natural dyes for my fibre work, I think I'm able to judge plant based dying capabilities quite well. There is a difference between vibrant colours which would be possible with medieval dyes, and neon, which wouldn't

I've met with other fibre artists through my guild, often they'll bring in natural dyed yarns they've been working on. None of those resulted in neons, nor have I seen a single neon colour in a textbook. You can get strong colours, but you have certain limitations when you don't have access to modern dye materials. This is why fibre artists will use natural dyes for some colours, but others prefer the chemical dyes because they get uniform results with a much larger, more vibrant palette.

Dylon was not around in medieval times. Had they been, you'd have a fair point. But you do need to understand the difference between a vibrant colour and one that isn't possible when one has limited dyestuffs to hand.

If you don't believe me, buy some cheap yarn that's white and made from a natural fibre like wool or cotton. Boil bits of it with some chopped up plant leaves and see what colours you get. Then you can come back and tell me how you got blaze with onion skins

Nobody has asked to remove certain colours. They're in and we accept the good, bad and ugly.

I'm not saying no new colours, only no more stupidly neon ones *shrugs* Perhaps rather than you guys suggesting we use B&W, you could tweak your monitor brightness up...
