Dungeon Revamp... the ultimate outcome

I have watched the Dev revamp the dungeons one by one, wiht high hopes.

Shame at first was good but could use a bit more tweeking but that is to be expected with a new change.

Then Wrong...... this one was changed to a higher degree for a more advanced character to do... it was not meant for a beginner, but there again I give the dev a inch to ajust it as again its new work.

Now Covetous.... Idk the items this one gives might be the saving grace for it.
Each dungeon was different before and yes you could say too old in its useability for modern players. I'll give you that much.
My concern is this.
After the hype is over and the static populations of each shard has had their fill of them... what next?
Do they sit there unuseable by the smaller players because the strong players pushed for the extreem they could get out of the dev? Or is there a plan that once they cool off to tone them down for the average player?

I see them in a few months being devoid of players...

I have been in the dungeons watching players run through them like water serching for the good items and then abandoning them. Oh i am not saying that once in a very blue moon they wont have a player run through but unless they have something that is usefull till the end of uo time I doubt the revamp is going to make them a habit for many.

The new players we have hate to do things over and over .... thats a fact. Oh they will work like demons to get to the end but after that ..... unless your giving away the top prize for redo's a million times they wont do it.

I'm old school, one of the die hard ladys who started UO and cut my teeth on the game. UO has changed for the good and at times for the bad and I am still here. But for how long.... I dont jump hoops Dev.

Obviously you do.

As for the dungeons, I think the upper levels are still suitable for newer chars. It's not until you reach the lower levels that the monsters get alot harder.

This is just how online games go. New content is introduced and is popular for awhile and then becomes less popular. I'm just glad they are updating existing areas and not adding even more areas to further thin the playerbase.

The new dungeons spawn may be a little hard for the average player but we had seen our chars get stronger over the years so it will be balanced over time.
I wish some new overlands spawn for young, average and players who like going alone. Non agressive but challenge spawn near the houses and agressive spawn away from the houses. Make the spawn on small spots like the Yew liches.
People need a reason to traveling the land again.
Don't forget to give Malas overland some cool spawn

My findings:
Shame is an enjoyable and reliable source of relic fragments for building suits and the occasional special item to accompany them - I have one character that's going the old way - ie wearing a suit built from shame and collecting replacement parts to build an alternate suit when they're lost or worn out. I also have a very nice, insured but unrepairable, mana regen 9 mace which she holds while running barding masteries. It shouldn't wear out any time soon since she doesn't actually hit anything with it.
The characters I mostly use in there are my tamer and the aforementioned bard. The levels I frequent are 2 and 3. Level 2 was nice for training the bard, spawn not too heavy and monsters move slowly enough to keep out of reach when provo failed. Wrong, I visit rarely, but then I didn't visit it often before the change either. The testing I did in Covetous I enjoyed, but I don't think I'll be venturing to level 3 and beyond. I'm not a player of that calibre

I go through them from time to time looking for people, i've yet to run into anyone in either shame or wrong. It seems they were sucessful in taking what were somewhat commonly used dungeons where lower level warriors trained and people used for events/RP (mostly shame, wrong was kinda messed up for a while since they've changed the mobs in there a few times already...) and turned them into GM+ character grinds that nobody cares to do expcept once in a blue moon to spend 5 minutes gathering items to unravel for a few dozen relics.

I used to run into miners in shame all the time but it doesn't seem realisticly possible to do that anymore....was such a cool dungeon and now it's unbelievably packed with mobs...it's not fun at all trying to go through there now with all.

I think what would make Shame more playable is:
1. Cut the number of mobs on level 1 by around half - there's nowhere to gain any respite and regroup and training players are constantly in danger of being overwhelmed by numbers.
2. reduce the spawn on level 5 similarly, though not quite so much - again there's nowhere you can get out of the spawn to regroup when in trouble.
3. Allow recall out of Fel dungeons, unless combat flagged. Shame particularly. It's an awful long way to level 5 if you've got to fight your way through, and a long way out to fight your way back, which for most people means no time at all to work the spawn down there, so no one bothers to go. Making the dungeons no recall in or out effectively killed the lower levels of the larger dungeons. Those with champ spawns have a shorter way out, those without that shortcut just died.

I thought wrong for one was very newb friendly. I took a very poorly equipped character, a simple all 70's suit, with a random lizardman slayer, and found very little problem killing the level 1 lizard dudes, in fair safty.

And I got some pretty good items.

These dungeon revamps are being done once every two months. I don't see the problem. Even so, two out of three of the dungeons will have continued visitation.

Shame drops the Whetstone of Enervation, which imbuers are going to want pretty much always. Covetous has the Cora/Vela items, via the Wave Spawn and/or Cora open-peerless. Tons of use-always crafter items in addition to PvE loot. Wrong does have an interesting thief section, but I'm not sure about the replay value. I'd assume more people PvE or craft than run a thief.

I too go to Shame for the relic fragments and it really nice to be able to build a useful suit. I agree there is a little to much spawn in lever 1, slow down the respawn a little would help. I had not tryed Wrong yet.

The first levels of Shame and Wrong are doable for lower-level characters, and are probably ideal for middle-level characters (especially Wrong).

From what one of the team members, I forget which one, said about the new Covetous many of the level one monsters aren't even aggressive, thus making it even easier (if making me feel a tad bad about fighting them).

I like that each of the dungeons so far are unique.

I use Shame a lot for collecting loot to unravel. This is great for new characters. I've got a budding sampire on Napa Valley that just needs a reliable source of relic fragment so I can keep upgrading weapons and armor. The deeper levels are fun for the artifact lottery. I like the fact that you can remove Damage Increase on weapons from Shame.

I have yet to set foot into Wrong. But I think people that like puzzles will find it interesting. It didn't do anything for me.

I cannot wait for Covetous. I think the Void Pool battle will be fun. I hope they add new ephemeral artifacts over time so we can get them from Vela. I am also very glad they gave the dungeon a "boss" and I can spend time challenging Cora for her non-ephemeral artifacts.

Overall, I am very pleased with what has been unveiled thus far. Couple this with imbuing and reforging and I think they have done a decent job of revitalizing some old systems. I am looking forward to the future dungeon revamps. I hope they include a way to remove "Cursed" from items, add runic tinker tools, and keep adding more bosses with corresponding artifacts.

I think the level one of the revamp dungeons are good for begginners, the skills below 80 are easy to gain. The toghest level of revamp dungeons may need to reduce the amount of HP of monsters by 20 - 30%. The quality of drops are only good for relics, not really good for uses.

Apart from the new artifacts, dev team could add some regular theme items in the monsters, such as 10% chance drop rate of a katana of undead slayer from the named bad mages, don't put other mods on the katana apart from the undead slayer. So the weapon of undead slayer become the regular theme item of the bad mages

I frequent Shame for the resources, down to the fire elementals. I did check Wrong - on LS the entrance is partially blocked by a blocking bone pile on the ground out front. I figured they didn't want me to go in, but did anyways, killed an archer, liked the loot, haven't been back. When I can just ride in without jumping a hoop, I'll go back for a second go.

I spent some time in wrong until every mob on the one side respawned in the jails. Unfortuntely I'm not a lock picker or possess magery...

What you appear to be saying (and like what you have posted in the past) is that no matter what the Devs do you personally will get bored fairly quickly and become unsatisfied. Still hanging around but not happy. No offense but I seem to recall dozens of your posts starting with something like "Devs can you do this" in quite a personal whim manner.
IMO that is okay but kinda ofc personal and maybe not always for the overall good of the game?

Not sure who besides yourself you believe you are speaking for but I like the new dungeons and will continue to like them in the future. I spent 2 hours in Shame just this morning.
But maybe thats because I mix up my playstyle. I pvp most of the time but I also mix in a healthy dose of pvm and crafting. Keeps everything in perspective and fresh for me.

What I dont do is spend most of my time worrying about the color of my gear and the style of my house. That IMO is an indicator of a lack of varied playing style and downright unhealthy for a longterm UO future.
