Hi all,

I am looking into buying a larger house (most likely a keep) or a castle if i can afford it lol or find a free space.

Thing is i have seen a house for sale in fellucia. I have lived in fel before but it was in a keep that i kept a a private residence and didnt grant access into it to anyone except the wife.

So i have a silly question: -

In my current house i display items in boxes. I lock them down and set access to anyone, Meaning they can look in them but cant take the items out.

I am wondering if this is the same in fel or does locking boxes down in this manner make the items inside open to being stolen etc or some other way of the items being taken from the house.

I realise this may seem a dumb question but i dont wanna go ahead and try buy the new property only to wake up one morning to find everything i own gone:(

All help is greatfully recieved:) ty

lock down rules are universal, same on all facets. But get into the habit of doing 'detect hidden' before you unlock anything to move it.

Like hiding, it's a skill that you don't need points in for it to work when you're in your own house.

It's a good policy on any facet as "trammies" make easy prey for a patient house looter, because they have a false sense of security that they can't be killed/robbed by other players.

Yes, any major deco sessions should involve using detect hidden and making your house private if possible. Another bit of advice is to use empty bags to move secures around. Basically you want to move a chest from one wall to another wall but your house is a public vendor house and the chest weighs 10k stone. Secure empty bags every few tiles then "skip" the chest through the bags to the wall you want to secure it on, detect for players before you set it down and secure it.

Using the hiding skill is a really good macro to have on all of your characters, even if you don't have the hiding skill, because you can hide in your own house. So doing stuff in your own house in fel and hiding is a great way to avoid a random pk noticing you and casting natures furies or whatnot. I hide out of habit every time I log out a character in a house, no matter where they are.

Ok cool ty for info,

Now 2nd part of the dumb question is.......

If i had a house open to the public but switched it to private before i deco this "Should" mean anyone not on friends or co- owners list get kicked from the house doesnt it? (although i assume detect hidden would also be recomended in this instance too?)

set a macro up to say:

I ban thy (I think thats it)

Go thru the steps to detech hidden, as it will always work even at 0 in your house.

If anyone pops up, hit your macro and target them...

Rinse repeat if needed.. :)

Last time that I used the Detect hidden in my vendorhouse and there was a stealther inside, it actually booted them out the door when they were detected, and also revealed them! Was awsome!

BTW...Im sure in some forums on these boards there is such a thing as a "dumb ass question", but what I have found here is that there is no such thing.

I have never encounter more helpful folks than I have on this forum. If you ask a question, it WILL be answered, and in an cordial fashion (sometimes even with pictures to help out with the explaination...wooot!)

The ideas here are endless. If you are new to this forum you should check out some of the links and threads, especially if your getting ready to deco a new home.

TY all,

I called it a dumb ass question because i felt i really should have known the answer, however, having only owned 1 fel house before which i kept private i really wasnt 100% on the answer so in the end i felt better safe than sorry so i posted with an air of "how stupid is this question really? worrying over essentialy what is pixels lol" (all beit expensive ones in terms of uo gold)

yeppers, it is always a very good idea (tm) to use detect hidden before unlocking anything of value. Doesn't matter which facet. When I ran a shop a few years back I had the occasional house hider in tram too.

Im off to pull the detect hidden tab off the skills menu on all my chars hehehe

I guess its a more usefull skill to trammie player than i originally thought!

Thanks to you all again for the info:)
